Just reading through these posts reminds me, how is everyone making their characters? Are they from old campaigns, or generated using the PH, or generated with the 3e D&D demo character generator from WoTC?

Most people seem to want to play their favourite character from PnP and/or CRPG (BG, IWD etc), since this is someone they feel most comfortable with. Like I said on the ALFA query thread, some cautious people are planning on playing a 'dummy' character first until they get the feel of the online game, then wheeling out their 'real' character.

I was wondering that too and what i can decipher from the posts and other articles is that you can either create a new char or i assume a DM can alter your stats, level etc. to fit one of your current pen-and-paper chars and if that's the case are there any DMs out there who'll import my "26/27-level Shape-changer/Kung-Fu Master with his trained attack chinchila"? =) j/k last time i played D&D the 2nd addition rules had just come out and i had augmented...no, let me rephrase...i improved...=)...the combat and skills system. But all i know is in the 3rd addition the monk is back and he was always my favorite.

If you want to import a high level character with pre existing 'stuff' forget about 'ALFA'
There everyone starts with 0xp, 1st level and ~ 100gp. The rest is up to you. It's a completely level playing field. NWN maxes out at 20th level (which is higher than Drizzy)

Hey, that's just enough $ to buy a board with a nail in it and some pigskin armor ;) I don't know what I'll create yet. I always love my fighter mages, but who knows. A question: if a character dies and noone cares enough to have him reserected, will the player be allowed by ALFA to create another just like him (albeit with a different bio), or will he have to create a brand new character. Incidently, Erran, what needs to be done (other than the obvious ALFA membership) to get into the AORTA guild.

Crawl,
I think that someone wrote on one of the other threads that membership wasperson specific, not character specific. As long as you can roleplay your new character into the current game, you should be O.K.

If you care to send me your e-mail address and geographic location I can put you on the hold register until your ALFA membership comes through. I'll keep you up to date with any major developments in the ALFA world.
As for characters, masj is right. There is nothing to stop you playing another character like your previous one but with a different name, several players have said that's what they intend to do.
At the other extreem, one player has got her first 30 different characters planned out!
You will start again at 1st level and you cannot 'inherit' your items by claiming to be a relative.
