I can see Daelan and Grimgnaw using this all the time, and so can my cleric (but I always forget to turn it on). But what is it?

Power Attack lets you take some of your attack bonus and apply it to damage instead.

+5 Hit is taken away to become +5 Damage.

I'm now using Improved Power Attack Mode, with is a +10 swap from Hit to Damage. I have to be careful with some of the tougher monsters, as I'll keep missing. But for walking through a room of frost giants...nothing beats it! ;)

It hears like a big penalty -10 to hit
But for what i've heard until now it isnt when fighting non-boss monsters.
My question is> Can a druid get power attack? And if he can will he even have enough BAB to use it efficently(sp?)

IIRC, any class can take power attack as a feat, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a fighter type. Druids don't get many feats, and there are better ones out there for them.

The only requirement for power attack is a 13+ strength. Its kind of an iffy feat because the damage modifier applies to all of your attacks. While its easy to afford with your 1st attack, it can very easily make your subsequent attacks utterly hopeless. This is especially true of improved power attack. So you need to really think about the balance between bonus damage and actually hitting with your third or fourth attacks.

However, its GRRREAT for smashing locks and other inanimate objects. Its also good againt things with high damage reduction. Then the bonus to damage could easily offset missing with a few ineffectual blows.

Every time I go to select Power attack for my character it is ghosted out and I can't select it. I wasted 2 feats on it, and I can hardly ever use it.
Meanwhile I had that barbarian as my henchman and he turned it on before almost every battle, and EVERY time he bashed a chest.

Put your points into better criticals instead...

If you play a fighter type, Power Attack is absolutely essential as it is a prerequisite for Cleave, which is indispensible. If you don't want the Improved Power Attack, that's your choice, but the basic one is a must-have.
