I'm playing a Ranger / Druid and got to pick myself a pet. I went with the panther, and he kicks some goblin bootie (I'm in the Prologe for goodness sakes ;) )

My question is, what animals have you had the best times with?

I kept Pluth my Panther through the whole thing. I loved the sneak attacks.

I always thought Mathetais was into the animal "companion" thing... :spin:

I however, will continue to hang around with the cute and sexy Sharwyn...

Chapter 2 and I'm still sticking with my Panther. He's my familiar though. But I think it's the best of the bunch. Sneak Attacks like hell.

Seems like everybody has panthers. Maybe I should try one out.

Not shocking that the badger isn't a popular choice.

I would like to try a hawk though ... just to see how the animation looks.

I picked a pixie. As a familiar. So I have a sorcerer (me), a thief (pixie) and a warrior slash cleric. (Linu)

The panther isn't as tough as some of the other choices (pure damage output and hp wise), but can sneak attack like a rogue. I think you might be able to make it go stealthy, too, but I haven't actually tried. So that makes it a good all around choice. It looks pretty cool, too.

I liked the spider, but it has really feeble hit points so I had to give it up.

I already have a lot of strength so I'll get someone that is sneaky like the panther.

I got a pixie familiar as well. There is certainly no trap/lock that she can't handle.
Besides, I sometimes keep her during fights just to listen to her sound set. Funny as hell :D
Now, if only it wasn't for that disturbing humming noise she constantly makes..
Otherwise, I see the panther as a very nice companion too.

Well, being as I'm a druid/wizard I actually have a panther and a pixie. The pixie is amusing, but I'd probably go with something else if didn't want the thief abilities. Those are just too useful to pass up in single player. Lets me have Linu as my henchperson without the lock/trap silliness.

Wow...cool...Panther/Pixie!

I've decided to switch back to a Pixie at the next lvl up. Anyone has a Hellhound?

My first time through I had Kebby the Pixie by my side. Good thief, horrible tank.

My Second time through is with a Hellhound named Asbestos. Cone of fire is cool. He's also lighting fast.

My Ranger used the Panther :)
my best companion was with my Wizard though
The pixie was great at disarming traps and opening locks.

Is it possible to have more than one companion at a time? It'd be pretty fun to just take a level of all the classes that get pets and build a little army.

I'd assume that if you had a Druid/Mage/Sorcerer you should get 3 familiars. Maybe. Or maybe Druid/Mage/Ranger.

You can have one animal companion, one familiar, one summoned monster, and one henchman. That's it. So a wizard/sorceror doesn't get two familiars, but a druid/wizard gets a companion and a familiar.

Why isn't anyone picking the Raven here? Oh sure it's small, with no skills, no tanking-ability. BUT: it's clever, it's black, and it can Fly! :D
It's amazing IMO, and gets tons of Sneak Attacks/Attacks of Oppertunity. And it can fly over lakes etc. And it just looks good on a necromancer. :)

I took the panther as well. His name is Ailou what means wild cat in ancient greek(it's also the name of my real life cat)

I think I'll stay with my Dire Wolf, even though everyone has a pixie or panther. I love my Dire Wolf to the heart for being a good as hell decoy and Tomi to do all the sneak attacks. Afterall... I can always summon my Dire Wolf if it dies.

I've been trying out most of them,

Panther: Wicked, great as a tank, and loads of sneak attacks.
Pixie: Also good, not that pretty at fighting, but real handy for traps.
Hellhound: I like this one a lot, like the panther but has more attacks and cone of fire, oh, and it's evil, but that doesn't seem to matter
Ice Mephit(sp?): I'm trying this one out at the moment, and it doesn't seem to good, but I haven't had it for long, I think it acn cast cone of cold, or something like that.
Raven: It doesn't do much, but it's just so cool, and it can fly anywhere and it just looks so decent.

I haven't tried out the others...yet but I will as soon as my mage levels up.

My ranger's animal companion started out as a hawk but has been a bear since about level 10. I also have a summoned dire badger most of the time. This little animal entourage allows me to skip having a henchman except when I need a door unlocked, at which point I temporarily trade them in for Sharwyn. The hawk was fun and beautiful graphically, although she never successfully disarmed anyone, but the bear is a big help in combat.
