Ive installed Neverwinter Nights and updated it with the lasted patch. For some reason, at various points in the game (in game, start, when saving, changing locations etc...) I get an error message that reads:

NWmain
NWmain has caused an error in KERNEL.32.DLL.

Besides custom portriats, I dont have any custom modifcations or anything. I dont think the portraits are causing this because my friend has some portraits and his are fine. Anyone know whats going on? Anything I can do? Help a desperate man play Neverwinter!!

NWN was crashing for me continually with a similar error. I never got to the bottom of it.

Can you give us anymore information? What OS are you using? On what kind of hardware? Those always help troubleshoot things like this.

Does the game exit when this happens, if so, this may be a video error. If you are extremely desperate I know of a way that is almost guaranteed to fix the problem. Back up all your custom files and what not and format your hard drive. Re-install your operating system(or a different one) and also your games and other programs. Transfer your files back onto the hard drive, and download any necessary drivers for your hardware.

I had an error much like that with Baldur's Gate 2. I got new video card drivers and it never did it again.

Accidentaly are you using ATI video card?

I had also problem witm my ATI All in Wonder. When it was loading new area or saving the game, sometimes freezed. It happened only at Win2K (and I suppose this would be the same at XP).

I installed the Win98SE and the problem disappeared.

By the way you can find an another topic on this page about the ATI - if you are using this...
