No joke, the new player application forms should go online 1st April. Time for all you would be AORTANS to get cracking!

Voltric
Wed, 28th Mar '01, 3:23pm
I'm looking forward to having the guild rounded out. 7 is a good start but I'd like to see another 7 or 8 members join when ALFA comes back up.

Darien Noella
Wed, 28th Mar '01, 3:53pm
Woohoo! I am There!

*stands glaring threateningly at other ALFA wannabes, who try to crowd in first*

Lord Bane
Wed, 28th Mar '01, 5:52pm
Count me in!

As soon as I've thought about my Monk's background a bit anyway. ;)

*smirks at the other wannabe's pitiful efforts as he knows he's the fastest of the lot*

Where are the apps again? There was a link here b4...

You folks need a kick@ss paladin to soak up a little damage up front, whilst you memorize your fancy spells and such... ;)

Voltric
Thu, 29th Mar '01, 12:18am
Here is the link again. http://63.210.143.48/ It may change once the real site is up but this should still get you to where you need to be.

As far as having a paladin, you are more than welcome. And I never really thought of power word kill as a fancy spell. ;)

Erran
Thu, 29th Mar '01, 1:25am
Yeah, Voltric. I'd like to see us up around 20. That would give most people a good chance of finding ~ 4 chums to go adventuring with whatever time of the 24/7 they live in.

Some deity info available at www.sorcerers.net/Fan_Worlds/FR/index.htm (http://www.sorcerers.net/Fan_Worlds/FR/index.htm)
Then its go Duskai go! ALFA doesn't know whats about to hit it.

Bateluer
Fri, 30th Mar '01, 10:49pm
Of course, Bateluer will be joining AORTA as well. I'm sure you could use my unique talents.

Voltric
Fri, 30th Mar '01, 11:54pm
More members are welcome. We'd love to have you, but I need to know, what unique talents would those be? ;)

Duskai
Sat, 31st Mar '01, 12:10am
talents? i look good in a catsuit (studded leather-for her pleasure) can distract the enemy with my 'assets', can sneak, open doors, render traps useless and buy the first round at the pub :) i can also make shish kebabs of thine enemy whilst whipping the buttocks of evil (muhahaha)
same old stuff, y'know

Erran,
I want to play but I've been procrastinating.
I have yet to look at what is involved with an ALFA application?
As far as AORTA is concerned, are you still accepting members?
I notice that Lord Bane is a Monk that will perhaps be in your ranks, I too would like to be a Monk, are two too many?
One last thing, my knowledge of 3E rules is limited, how detrimental will this be to my application when ALFA opens again?

Voltric
Sun, 1st Apr '01, 6:28am
Don't worry about the 3E rules, at least for the app. If you are up on 2E you be fine. There are not any question that apply to the rules that much. Just make sure you brush up be the time NWN comes out. Knowing what's going on will be vital in playing the game and making your character.

Erran
Sun, 1st Apr '01, 1:02pm
Hi and welcome Lord Moeken.
Your timing could not be better, ALFA should be opening its doors to new members today or tomorrow.
AORTA is still accepting new members.
Don't worry too much about 3E, that's more a problem for the DMs. ALFA has said many times what they are looking for is ROLEPLAYERS, not rules lawyers. Check out the AORTA FAQs for some background info. If you want to play around with what your monk might be like in 3E, download the FREE 3E character generator from www.wizards.com (http://www.wizards.com)
then go games, electronic, master tools.
You may notice that with the choice of feats and skills no two monks will be the same -its almost like having your own personal kit.
Plus you have a wider choice of races and multi classes; so while one may chose a human who later becomes monk3/fighter1 another chooses a halfling who becomes monk2/wizard2 or whatever. Which partly answers your last question - yes several monks are good!

Lord Bane
Sun, 1st Apr '01, 2:06pm
Voltric : 3E PHB&MM (http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html) (more or less anyway)

And Erran, I'll finish my Monk and send it to you one of these days, ok ?

Lord Moeken
Mon, 2nd Apr '01, 5:24pm
One more quick question:
As far as the application to ALFA goes, how important is our character's birth place and present location within the realms?
If I want to be an AORTA member is there somewhere I should be?

Voltric
Mon, 2nd Apr '01, 5:53pm
ALFA does ask for a character history. And that history is one of the most important parts of getting accepted. I don't think your birth place matters much as long as it fits into your history. If reference to your current location, I just felt it open ended for my PC, but we did have AORTA at that time.
The guilde plans to start in the dales region. The ALFA maps will be finalized at the end of the week so we will know what server we'll be on.
You could write that into your history if you want but I don't think it will be an issue if you are a little vage. Remember they are looking for good RP not a history lesson of FR.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Erran
Mon, 2nd Apr '01, 7:15pm
OK here's the scoop: I'll tell y'all more about this later, but since we are all in to roleplaying I'd like you all to roleplay your induction into the guild. We are at present outside Waterdeep, near a place called Bargewright Inn. Don't worry if you didn't put that on your cv, they don't keep track.

Voltric
Mon, 2nd Apr '01, 9:03pm
Here is my intro for Voltric,

The sun slides behind a cloud and the wind increases its constant assault upon the population of Waterdeep. The figure approaching the inn pulls his reddish-brown cloak closer about his frame. He stops in front of the inn and extracts a scroll case from under his cloak, pulling a sheet of parchment from the case he compares the name on the parchment to the sign over the inn’s door. “bargewright” he mutters under his breath, “Here we are”. He strides through the door into the dim smoky interior.

After order a warm drink from the bar he finds himself an empty in a corner. He removes his cloak and leans back in his chair. Several regulars in the bar glance over at the new stranger. He is a younger human with shoulder length brown hair held back by a strand of leather thong. He blue eye, set in a weather beaten face are his only remarkable feature. His white tunic and black hose appear of good quality under the layer of dust from the road. He is wearing a wide leather belt with a number of pouches and scroll cases arrayed around it. Even though he is wearing a light shirt of chainmail, his only obvious weapon is an iron capped oaken staff he leans on the wall behind him.

He raising this drink to his lips and surveys the public room.

PS - Maybe BTA might want to setup a new topic for the RPing bit. That way we can keep it apart from everything else. Just a thought.

Erran
Tue, 3rd Apr '01, 1:19am
OK Voltric, not bad. Couple of minor points. I didn't make it very clear, the Bargewright is actualy 3 days by wagon North of Waterdeep rather than in it. And what's a worm drink? A drink made from worms or a drink with a worm in it (like Tequila?)
Some people round here are pickey about spelling (glares at Darien) :)

Voltric
Tue, 3rd Apr '01, 6:09pm
Be kind to my spelling! I guess that one got by the mighty spell check. Next time I'll call it pipping hot.

Lol Voltric & Vandriel :D
Thought you might like to know, AORTA has beeen granted official status as one of the authorised guilds of ALFA, and we should appear on the list when it's published later in the month.

Voltric
Wed, 4th Apr '01, 3:37pm
It's good to know we have been accepted by the powers that be! Do players need to do anything to offically 'join' the guild? Does ALFA keep track of who is in the guild? Do we need to register or is membership totally controlled by us? Just wondering...

Erran
Wed, 4th Apr '01, 5:31pm
OK Voltric, here goes:
Do you have to anything special? Yes. Sometime in the next 4 months I would like you to roleplay your introduction to the guild. Tal will be introducing something soon to make this easier. Watch this space!
As for your other questions, I don't think ALFA will be keeping a check since we'll probably keep dying and the next character we chose might be incompatible with your previous guild.

Congratulations Duskai! :)

Interesting... Do you think the gods of ALFA are trying to get more females in the ranks? Of all the people I know here who applied recently you two ladies are the only ones accepted so far...

Or maybe you ladies are far better at story writing than we foolish men are! ;)

From the NWN board, there are lots of guys getting in too, so don't give up.
AORTA's up to 12 at last count. I am turning some applicants down if I don't think they'll fit.

Blackthorne TA

Try re-submitting your application, Blackthorne. With all the apps they have flowing in maybe yours just got missed. You never know and at any rate it cant hurt.

Erran
Fri, 6th Apr '01, 11:47am
Yes, Don says hs's up to date with the player apps so if you haven't heard that's prolly not good news.
Don't despair! It's like the driving test, only 20% - 25% get through first time. Try again, show 'em you're serious.

Please welcome our newest recruits:
Aryn the Mad (mage), Kyrian Geldrin (fighter), Raven (elven paladin and undead slayer) and Elanor our first Druid-(ess). Yeah!
BTW, though the last two are female, they are played by guys.

I make that 14! Nearly 50:50 male:female chrs
and 3 female players. We're also pretty cosmopolitan with players from Norway to California

Hello All AORTAites!
Just to give you guys the heads up. I just applied to ALFA and I am planning to apply to AORTA as soon as the ALFA app goes through. I've been reading through your posts and you seem like you guys have your stuff together. If you need references, you can talk to my bud Voltric. He's know me for quite some time. Talk to you all soon!

Voltric

I think Penlal was approved by ALFA as a fighter/Sorcerer. We also have another friend who is in ALFA as a Bard/Barbarian. I think both will be asset to the guild.

Tue, 10th Apr '01, 4:02pm

Hello everyone. *gives a big enthusiastic wave to all gathered*

Just wanted to let you know that if you're ever in the Cormanthor area and you want to help purge the forests of the vile beasts that have taken up residence there, look me up. (Silthryn Silversong-First Shadow of the N'Vaelahr)

Oh, and btw, we of the N'Vaelahr do accept half-elves... it's Baelvanyth and maybe a few others who don't fully recognize your elven blood and soul. But official policy is that all of elven decent are welcomed with open arms into our society. (I hope this didn't sound like a shameless plug, and if it did, I feel ashamed.) ;)

Greeting sister Vandriel (Darien), the stars shine upon our meeting.

And to you Duskai, I do not understand what you mean by being disrespectful. I'm sorry that you feel I am in someway displaying this characteristic. I have nothing but the utmost respect for all of the goodly races as long as they display that their intentions are not filled with dark thoughts and deeds. I especially respect my own People, the elves, and that is why I do what I must to keep them, our lands, and our dead protected from those that would see us harmed or defile the tombs of our ancestors.

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

Fare thee well.
