I installed NWN and when I try to start it, I get the initial menu, hit "play", and the launcher screen comes on, but then it just goes off and nothing happens. What's the deal? I went through the config deal and all, I do have Windows XP but it says that's fine, I don't get it. Any sugg.'s?

Try rebooting.

I've rebooted several times, now I'll try to update and see if it helps. The Readme says because the CDs are copy protected, some CD-ROMs have trouble reading them and rebooting helps, but it hasn't. I'm getting a little p'd off.

I updated-still no help. Any other advice?

Hmm, sounds indeed wierd. Do you have another CD-Rom drive/burner you could test it in ?

No, but I may try a friend's PC. I even updated my drivers to no avail. I guess I'll try BW/Infogames and see whats up.

I dont know the exact problem, but try cleaning the disc, it will not take long, I have had times that the disc was just dirty and needed to be cleaned, and it said the same stuff that its saying for you. Has not happened for me in the game but you never know....

I know this is probably really stupid but have you got the right DirectX and is it compatiable with your system/game (the DirectX)

Prolly cuz of your video card/driver if you have WinXP. NWN doesn't work with the video card/driver that comes with WinXP, as I found at last night. :) Although, something different happened to me.

I had that exact same problem. As do a lot of people in the bioware support forum. What fixes it is the no-cd crack. I won't post here where I got it but if you e-mail me at frank_j_n@hotmail.com I'll tell you (Only if you can't find it on your own.)

I disovered that reading the cd is indeed a probleem, at my pc it works put it takes some time and the cd-rom spins a few times up and then stops spinning again and makes a bit strange soudn... but after 10 seconds I still egt the Menu Bar, wich is I suppose the only part of the game that needs a cd on custom install.

I've had to get a no-cd crack for several games that don't seem to run happy with the cd. even had a tech support guy from activision email me one for a game i had problems with :p
the company's really don't care if you use the no-cd crack on a game that you paid for.
(at least most companys :) don't care)
