Is the torch only eyecandy ? I haven't had use of it yet mostly cause most of the areas are kinda bright ..

The torch can be used to burn plague victims' bodies for extra XP... That's the only use I've found for it so far.

Try playing at night when you can't see a bloody thing... It's very useful then.

The torch definitely makes a difference in the light level around your character. However, a lot of the demi-human races (like my half orc) have superior nightvision of some sort and therefore don't really need it. But if you are wandering around Neverwinter Wood at night with a human or halfling character, I bet its real handy. :)

I have only played with elves so far, and they have a limited nightvision.. So I don't think they aren't that necressary.

I have a ring that acts like a torch.

Having any of the light producing objects in the game does improve visibility, even if you have full darkvision or something like that. I forgot elves only have lowlight vision, since I rarely play them. They would benefit from a light source in many places as well.

The low-light vision of my Half-Elf was really cool while going through the prison. There'd be a dark corner that I couldn't see into while in the torchlight, but as soo as I moved away from the torches and into the dark, it lit up with a blue glow, even better than the torchlight.
