I have a level 16 Ranger with a Bard henchman and bear Animal Companion. I've just reached the Inner Sanctum within the Source Stone in the final chapter and find I'm facing 2 dragons at the same time. My poor Ranger is scared to death! I have several anti-spell devices and drank mind-clearing potion, but he's still too scared to do anything except get decimated.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get past these 2 brutes? Thanks.

Sounds like you need something (an item or potion or spell) that removes fear. Dragons have 'frightful presence' which works kind of like an aura of fear.

The armor you get when completing Mutamin's challenge (that's chapter 2, IIRC) also does the trick.

Dragon Slippers do the trick every time :) IIRC Daelan's best amulet that he gives you provides immunity to fear too.

So what if you get scared? It won`t kill you. you just respawn anyway. Just takes more time thats all.

Thanks, folks. I'll look around and see if I can find something in NeverWinter that will do the trick. It's a little late now to go back to Chapter II for that armor or amulet. :)

I just saw your post, Rawgrim. I can't do any damage to the dragons at all because I'm so scared. So, in a way, being scared WILL get me killed <grin>.

that potion of clarity should have done the trick, don't know why you where still able to be effected by fear after drinking the stuff.

It only lasts a turn though, that's 10 rounds, doubtfuly you'll be able to dispatch two dragons in 10 rounds. Stock up on them if you cant, though i doubt you'll be able to find any in shops. Clarity potions that is.

Lesser Mind blank/Mind blank also works.

Erm. My paladin did... maybe with the right use of spells and potions and henchmen you could?

Hehe. Yeah, my Ranger mopped the floor with them too, but my Rogue had a much tougher time landing hits on them. But with the Greater Swordsman Belt, Regeneration items, Daelan's amulet and Improved Evasion, those silly Dragons couldn't significantly damage my Rogue and he just wore them down

There's a level 1 spell called Protection from Alignment that makes you totally immune to mind spells from enemies of that given alignment. It's a standard buff whenever I play NWN: it lasts forever and since 99% of the enemies you face are evil, I always cast Protection from Evil (you can cast Protection from Good if you want).

It would have been nice if some of the henchmen had this spell but they don't. If you're not a class that can cast it (and nearly every spellcasting class gets it) there is a wand that casts it five times. The wand is in that village of the damned place where you need to cast Protection from Evil to summon a demon (part of that trial quest with the 2 brothers). And yes, there's several other items in the game that make you immune to mind spells.

Right. Those belts (Swordsman, Archer and what?) pretty much protect you well enough from physical attacks to avoid damage on non-critical hits.

I all did was throw my Barbarian into Greater Barbarian Rage and chug a potion of clarity, once inside the two dragon's aura of dragon fear, I didn't have to make a will save again. With the Rage's +6 to my strength, I proceeded to pound the dragons into the ground (had to restart the first time after Sharwyn tried to go berserking on the dragons with her short bow :grr: ).

The greater belt of guiding light is a very good stuff for these kind of situations IIRC (i use it).
It has protection from fear and protection from Death magic.
