Apparently using a Double Weapon should incur penalties as if you used two separate weapons.
From what I've read with Double Weapon you are now getting two attacks with no penalty to either attack and the additional bonus of effectively avoiding the light weapon rule in your off hand.

Have I missed something?
What is your opinion on this?
Does your character use double weapon?

No, I haven't used a double weapon, but are you sure you're avoiding the penalties? A double weapon is supposed to be the same as two weapons, but the "offhand" weapon is treated as light.

I think they may have bugged on the penalties. I am using two weapons, without any of the feats (two-weapon fighting, ambidexterity), and I am getting no penalties. Got a scimitar in main hand and a longsword in off hand with my elven cleric, so neither is considered light. No penalties incurred.

I created a fighter and took Weapon Proficiency Exotic as well as Weapon Focus in Two-bladed Sword.
When she started the game there was a Two-bladed sword in the container in the room where you start, so she could use it from the start.
The feedback you get when fighting shows no penalties, indeed she gets the full bonuses with both attacks. She's a machine!

OK wait, wait. Did you get a different weapon and see what your attack bonus was? Because it won't show a penalty, it will just show a lower attack bonus. I know for a fact the light weapon and other two-weapon penalties work because of experiments I did with my Ranger wearing medium and light armor and putting a rapier vs a handaxe in the off hand.

I never took the exotic weapon feat though so I never wielded a double weapon.

I don't think I have that bug. I use a Two-Bladed Sword, and I have Exotic Weapon Proficiency. I'm also a ranger.

It is a bug/designflaw with double weapon, but BioWare has not commented on it... yet. There are many topics about it on the official forums. I wanted to see what people here on SP was thinking about it and I'm surprised so few seem to know about this. :book:

@Shadow_Goddess
It's not a bug which some have and others don't. :D

I ran to the Peninsula with my newly created fighter and after some fights it looks like the damage she does with the Off Hand is less than the normal hand.
The attack bonus (To Hit) is however the same regardless if it is with Off Hand or not (+8).

well, that's the way it is supposed to be. Your attack bonus should be the same with both hands if you have ambidexterity. And your strength damage bonus should be 1/2 normal with the offhand, regardless of what abilities you have.

The question is do you have the same attack bonus when wielding just a one handed weapon in your primary hand as you do wielding a double weapon. *If* that is the case, then there is a bug.

I know for a fact that my attack bonus varies based on whether I have one weapon or two equipped. I'll have to look at double weapons specifically.

okay, I just looked at this. Its clear that the character sheet part of the program treats double weapons as a single weapon. If you look at your charsheet, it shows you getting full bonuses with your main hand and 'inapplicable' for your offhand. Yet when you actually fight, you get offhand attacks. The dual wielding penalties are not applied. I was getting +19 attacks with my single sword and with a diremace, but only getting +17 attacks with sword/handaxe and +15 attacks with sword/club.

So there does seem to be a bug here in the character sheet/stat calculation part of the program.

Vorm, I never tried to see if there was a bug in the way double weapons are used as I never took the exotic feat. My cleric, with a +1 scimitar in the main hand and a +1 longsword in the off hand (yeah, I know this is really bad for the end of Chapter Two) has the same attack with the longsword as with a shield in the off-hand and he should not. Therefore, it must be a bug.
