View Full Version : Ranking system upgrade
Headbanger Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 12:06pm Heya, as you can see this is already post number 1400 for me. I've been a good boy and read the FAQ and I saw I will change into an Umber Hulk. But after that the list stopped. So of course I am really worried now :)
There are already some powerfull creatures in the list so everyone can imaginze how hard it would be for Tal to get some new ones. So let's help him a bit. Does anyone has a good idea? Of course I say that you should get your own avatar at 1500 posts for you created enough pageviews for SP :).. kidding...
What about an Ilithard and/or Beholder.. or a doom knight?
Anyone else got a good idea?
Maldir Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 12:14pm There are plenty of monsters available out there. Obviously dragons are out, but we could have things like demons of various types, Kuo-Tua (sp?), ankhegs, wolfweres and more. Also we could use higher level versions of existing avatars if they look sufficiently different - eg a Yuan-ti Mage. We could use humanoid avatars as well, though this is something we haven't done yet on the ranking system, so might be at the higher levels; this would open up avatars like Soldier of Amn, Dwarf, Drow, Cowled Wizard (bit of an SoA bias there, but there you go :))
Taluntain Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 2:07pm Well the beholder and illithid are already taken as custom avatars, but don't worry... I have plenty more where that came from. But after 1500 it'll be a new avatar every 200 posts though. No point in having it change every 100 posts when some people (like Headbanger) make so many in a week or less. ;)
As for humanoid avatars... That's a no-go. They're not in the game as animations but are created & painted by the game itself, unlike monsters which have specific animations which can be used to make avatars from.
The Drow are in as monsters though, but they look weird.. Didn't you notice that in the game as well?
Headbanger Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 2:47pm Indeed, drow look weird. But I didn't deserve an Avatar with so many posts? I wanna have a Drizzt Avahtar and then as titel: Powergamers, beware! :)
BogiTheWaverer Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 2:59pm Marnix, you are simply garrulous. :p
Mathetais Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 3:57pm gar·ru·lous (gr-ls, gry-)
adj.
1. Given to excessive and often trivial or rambling talk; tiresomely talkative.
2. Wordy and rambling: a garrulous speech.

[From Latin garrulus, from garrre, to chatter.]

garru·lous·ly adv.
garru·lous·ness n.
Maldir Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 4:09pm Eventually, of course, the post counter will wrap and Headbanger will be back to a Watcher. :spin:  How many bits in the counter, Tal?
Shralp Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 5:04pm I think if you've reached level 21 without purchasing anything through SP (and thus earning a custom avatar), then you should be pimp-slapped through a fine wire mesh for not giving Tal and company their props.
[Edited because I've been too mean to people lately. And Shralps are made for lovin'.]

Silverblade Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 8:30pm That makes me wonder, who has most posts and is not a moderator. First place must be for Headbanger. I don't know who is in second place, Sir Bel and Sylvus Moonbow have a lot of posts too. Sylvus Moonbow reached the shuagan (or however you may spell it, I mean the shark-looking-lives-in-the-water-you-were-captured-by-in-BG2-beastie) a long time before Headbanger, but is now simply gone.

Azirath Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 9:48pm Hmm, well I certainly am not up there ;)
Taluntain Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 10:13pm As Shralp said... Sheesh. Making demands here like I live simply to serve. (Well, I do, but on my own terms.)
Anything you get over such a high post count is a freebee and you should be greatful. It's not like I profit in any way from wasting time and making more avatars for people who can't donate a buck to get their custom avatar. I'm *****ing here, but really... It's like I'm making custom avatars for you with every big chunk of posts you make. I think we'll go with 250 from 1500 on. It'll round up nicely.
Headbanger Thu, 4th Oct '01, 5:14pm Good idea. Sorry about my non-profit being. Wait! I just clicked on a banner :) When I have an own credit card I will buy something here... I can get it in local stores but I have no problem with sponsoring this site a bit...
But Tal, you really have to learn that sometimes, the apprentence of someone is worth more then much gold (blablabla :))
Shralp Thu, 4th Oct '01, 5:36pm Send cash.
Just write:
Taluntain
Slovenia
He'll get it.
Mathetais Thu, 4th Oct '01, 8:00pm Marnix .... there are other ways to get a custom avatar.
Per the FAQ:
Sending me anything that will be posted on Sorcerer's Place, either a walkthrough, guide, hack etc. Screenshots for SOTW do not count, but may be helpful in the long run. ;)
So, look deep within your soul and ask yourself ... what do I have to contribute to this community.
Lets break it down ... :hmm:
1. You're Dutch, therefore not likely to be giving money away.
2. You're male, therefore not likely to be creative.
3. You work on a help desk, which may be useful. You could develop a way to get past the minimum system req's for POR or something and have that posted.
4. You spend all day in the chat room ... so, nah, nothing to work with there :hahaerr:
5. You're a God-Fearing Soul ... so maybe you can write "A Christian's Guide to AD&D - how to conquer Hell without ending up there" :holy:
BTW - Amazon.com can send books w/o a Credit Card ... you have to use a money order and its slower, but still works :money:
Your Fellow Dutch/Christian Brother - Mat
Nobleman Thu, 4th Oct '01, 9:31pm I Bought HOW yesterday on Amazon.uk and I don't have a credit card. You just send a check to Amazon with an "orderletter". They explain it all there while you click away. Don't make Tal make new avartars just for your level advancement. :) :p
Headbanger Fri, 5th Oct '01, 2:23pm Thanks Mat. I wish I spent as less money as you think Dutch do.... but unfortunatly, I spend too much. At the end of my money, there's also a still piece of month left :)
I suppose when I have to pay in Dollars or Pounds I have to spend much extra just for being with foreign money. WHY DON'T ENGLISH HAVE THE EURO???? :)
I have not enough time to play a game and write a walkthrough, I submitted a screenshot but that doesn't count :)
In this games christian religion doesn't count..
Let's just pray and hope for a miracle :)
I'll have to buy Unfinished Tales so I think that will be the solution. Nobleman, can you forward me that email from Azazone so I can see if buying something without credit card is possible for me?
Maldir Fri, 5th Oct '01, 4:48pm Why don't we have the euro? Because we're all scared of you European types, with your garlic and bratwurst and all that
Personally I'm in favour, but a lot of people aren't, they think it would mean we'd give up our independence.
Nobleman Fri, 5th Oct '01, 5:19pm sure thing my friend :)
a) read Voltric post here for a little info http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum7/HTML/001155.html
b) Then go here: http://www.sorcerers.net/Books/index.htm
c) press the GAMES link
d) Choose your game ( I used Amazon.UK)
e) click in the blue area where the link says PREORDER TODAY in a yellow box
f) check that the order is ok and then click the green box "PROCEED TO CHECKOUT"
g) make an account at Amazon
h) follow the procedure and choose either Air mail (cheeper) or Express mail
i) Choose pay with check. Right below the VISA fillout.
j) Ano so forth.
I will Say that it is much easier than it sounds. And you have to pay in £. But with that said I don't think you have any obligation at all to buy products even if you post 10000 on SP.
Shralp Sat, 6th Oct '01, 9:10am But with that said I don't think you have any obligation at all to buy products even if you post 10000 on SP.
Heresy!
Tal! Get him!
Igneous Sat, 6th Oct '01, 1:28pm He said he is not obliged to buy any PRODUCTS :heh: Maybe it's an idea for Tal to post his bank-account number, so we can all donate about $1,00 for every 100 posts or so :spin:
Ragusa Sat, 6th Oct '01, 3:27pm Silverblade, be sure that there will always one ahead of Headbanger ;)
However, Tal has about twice as many posts compared to me :wail: I think the top six (non-mods) consist of extremist (19xx posts), headbanger (14xx posts), Crawl (12xx iirc), Sir Bel (12xx posts), Sylvus Moonbow (12xx posts) and me 15xx posts).

Shadow_Goddess Sat, 6th Oct '01, 4:18pm Marnix, GET A LIFE!!!!!!! Tal doesn't need to make new avatars just because you're the only one using them... eventually sure everone will catch up... but they will probably have costom avatars when they reach like 1000, 1500. I mean, *I'm* trying to get my own avatar!!!! ;)

Gash Sat, 6th Oct '01, 6:20pm Huoooh, settle down guys. They're only pictures! Its not like it is important or anything...
Nobleman Sat, 6th Oct '01, 7:22pm Gash, in my opinion the issue is actuallyhow to show Tal that we appreciate his board. Not if what avatar we should use.
User payment aye Shralp? Let us pay a buck for each post we make. I am sure Tal will let us know if he needs financial aid to support the bandwith. The FAQ doesn't say that its pay per post.
I myself feel that it is polite to contribute Tal by buying games or books through his links if you spend a lot of time at SP. But it is not a rule.
[This message has been edited by Nobleman (edited October 06, 2001).]
Taluntain Sat, 6th Oct '01, 11:17pm Right. I'm not forcing anyone to do anything here.
