View Full Version : POLL: Tea or Coffee?
Arabwel Mon, 27th May '02, 2:32pm Heya!
/me jumps up and down
It's me! at the moment, I'm hyper because of caffdeine, sugar and lack of sleep and as I discussed the properties of caffeinated drinks with Headbanger in the chatroom I came up with this topic:
Tea or coffee?
For me it is tea, strong and with lots of sugar. Sure, I can go for an espresso every now and then, but I have an addiction to tea. Ten mugs a day, minimum. Sweet, hot and strong. I hate Earl Grey, and positively love vanilla, lemon or fruity tea. Green tea with mint is also incredible.
So, what about you?
Ara
("I feel like kicking that pigeon" me at an amusement park)
the god Mon, 27th May '02, 2:38pm tea, no milk and three sugars.
rarely drink :coffee:, much prefer coca-cola for my caffeine hit.
Mollusken Mon, 27th May '02, 2:41pm Coffee. Almost black (there's a fine limit between strong enough and too strong). Nothing in it. And eating chocolate while drinking it is the best.
Christopher_Lee Mon, 27th May '02, 2:41pm Coffee. Black. Espresso if required - Espresso is to coffee as crack cocaine is to sugar...
Viking Mon, 27th May '02, 2:55pm I used to be a strictly black coffee man, but I must have mellowed with age.
Now a mug of strong tea, white with one sugar is my usual at home.
At work, the black coffee still sees me through the day.
Incidentally, did you all know that there is actually more caffeine in tea than in coffee? Honest guv' it's the truth. It's just in a form that isn't absorbed into the body as easily. So there! ;)
Christopher_Lee Mon, 27th May '02, 2:55pm Yeah, I also read that there is more caffeine in apples than there is in coffee...
Arabwel Mon, 27th May '02, 2:57pm If coffee was discovered in modern day it would be a prescripted medicine :)
Ara
(Did you know that a chimp has bigger testicles than a gorilla?)
Christopher_Lee Mon, 27th May '02, 3:09pm Yeah Ara - its about sperm competition between the gorilla (a species in which a single male controls a harem of females, and so does not have to worry about the females mating with multiple maales so much - therefore he puts less effort into sperm production) and the chimp (a polyandrous species, where females mate with multiple males, so the male which produces more sperm per mating has a better chance of fertilising a female).
The god aludes to this in his midichlorion/mitichondrion spiele elsewhere on these pages, though he concentrates on sex diomorphisms...
there are also other interesting results of this type of differential evolution... a male which is watched whilst he copulates will tend to prroduce more sperm (suspecting the voyeours of mating before/after his own); male drosophila (fruit flies) have produced glands which secrete spermicidal solutions, thus killing any sperm in the female which is not his own.
Interesting stuff...
Sir Belisarius Mon, 27th May '02, 3:41pm Tea - I'm pretty flexible about the blend, but I got hooked on Assam while I was in Scotland! I've gotten pretty snobby about my tea now too! I haven't used a tea bag in three years, I only buy the thicker leaves (orange pekoe, etc..)and strain through a filter! A little more work, the the taste is worth the wait!
Headbanger Mon, 27th May '02, 4:24pm Coffee... except for when I had too much of it, then I switch to red bull. Sometimes I drink tea.... but that is only on very special occasions.
I have to say tea tastes better though.

total Mon, 27th May '02, 5:24pm Tea, with lots of sugar, strawberry and vanilla. But maybe one cup a week.
More than 2 cups a day sends me to bathroom every 15 min.
Gnolyn Lochbreaker Mon, 27th May '02, 5:27pm Coffee (strong, with cream and 1 sugar) in the mornings or early afternoon. *Big* pot on the weekend :p Never in the evening though.
Tea (orange pekoe or early grey, with milk and 2 sugar) in the evening, or late afternoon. Herbal teas (chamomile, etc) evening and night.
PowerPuff Mon, 27th May '02, 5:27pm Espresso in the morning (I don't sleep much, and I'm stupid enough to compensate with lots of caffeine, which of course results in me being pretty much all over the place mentally until about lunchtime)
Cappuchino in the afternoon (My unfortunate caffeine kick from earlier in the day fresh in mind, I somehow convince myself that it was the colour of the coffee that made me freak out, and that adding milk makes it a whole lot safer to drink. This is probably the reason why I don't sleep much in the first place)
Tea? That's some sort of health food stuff, right? :p

8people Mon, 27th May '02, 5:31pm Tea with milk and three sugars... at least
And BICCIES!
Damona Silvercloud Mon, 27th May '02, 5:42pm Tea is my staple drink, and I like it pretty much any way, except with milk. Caffinated, herbal, it's all good.
Coffee is not so much a casual drink as it is a necessity in my life. (especially when playing a certain game into the early morning hours) At least 2-3 cups a day, towards the evening. It has to be black with a pound of sugar. The stronger the better.
Lokken Mon, 27th May '02, 6:07pm Coffee, with Irish Cream in it, mmmmm......
Though nothing beats a good Cappuchino..
/me scurries downstairs and makes coffee
Ragusa Mon, 27th May '02, 6:20pm Coffee for everyday aid and help to get up. When I wan´t to be nice to me I prefer tea: Yasmine tea (the only flavoured tea I accept), BOP Assam (the morning alternative, strong enough aroma to wake me up), and eventually: FTGFOP Darjeeling 2nd flush is my absolute favourite ... I only needed scottish water here (ours is rather hard = chalky) to be perfectly happy. However, in the morning I need a strong taste to kick-start me. Tea is for afternoons and evenings :)

Mathetais Mon, 27th May '02, 6:24pm COFFEE!!!!
On a bad day ... a "Red Eye" which is a shot of espresso in a Venti Cup of Coffee.
On a normal day ... 3-4 large coffees.
It's Not an Addiction! ;)
Sir Yerril of Morningmist Mon, 27th May '02, 7:04pm I have taken my own paladinly vows to never indulge in any of the following:
Alcohol
Drugs
Cigarettes (and cigars, and tobacco in general)
Fast Food (eg. McDonalds, Burger King)
COFFEE!!
I have never had drugs, coffee or fags, my last amount of alcohol was in 1998, and my last fast food meal was last year. Since I have taken these vows I have not broken one, and as such my answer would have to be:
Tea!
Although I very rarely drink it, I'm an OJ man.
Lazy Bonzo Mon, 27th May '02, 7:19pm Hmm neither actually. Except on occasions i've had coffe powder and cola which is very good for staying awake.
Uytuun Mon, 27th May '02, 7:22pm tea!! (but the smell of coffee is great)
the god Mon, 27th May '02, 7:37pm "tea, earl grey, hot." :borg:
can't believe no-one got that in before me. :hahaerr:
CL, with all your talk of sperm, are you suggesting we substitute high-fat milk for high-protein spunk for that lil' extra something in our tea?
the god
(no pinkies, therefore no use of shift key)
Sir Dargorn Mon, 27th May '02, 8:01pm Oh God your a geek! (no pun intended)
I like tea better, but without milk the cheap stuff makes me wretch, they put far to much tannin in and without the extra milk to soften it it dries your mouth out and makes you feel really really queasy!
Padine the Paladin Mon, 27th May '02, 8:18pm Tea.
Milk.
Three sugar's minimum.
Sometimes I drink coca cola.
I never drink:coffe:Because I dont like it.

Ragusa Mon, 27th May '02, 10:00pm  /me shudders thinking about all the sugar-and/or-milk-in-their-tea-barbarians outside ...
Is the tea you drink really SO cheap you have to add sugar to give it a flavour??! or milk??! Tea for me ALWAYS without sugar .... well, most of the time. I add sugar only when the tea's really cheap (then also lemon - sugar and lemeon turn even the worst tea into something drinkeable) or I when need some sugar to stay concentrated when I learn ... but only then ...:coffee:
Errol Mon, 27th May '02, 10:15pm Tea...just Tea.
NO milk.
NO sugar.
Just tea...
Slappy Mon, 27th May '02, 10:16pm Glad to see Ragusa has the right avatar at last :) Shame we're likely to move to portraits soon :( Anyway, no tea or coffee for me. I don't really like hot drinks at all. Hot chocolate is about the only thing and I don't bother with that unless someone is forcing me (does soup count?). I used to force down tea after playing rugby if I was really dieing of thirst after a match. Just enough to keep me going until I could get to the bar. For caffiene I have to rely on coke (not the white stuff).
Of course this does mean I miss out on a lot of social opportunities. Slappy walks nice lady home. Lady says, do you want to come in for a coffee. Slappy says 'no thanks' I don't like it and leaves. Nice lady is left wondering if Slappy means he doesn't like coffee and is a bit thick or if he doesn't like what coffee is the codeword for. :aaa:
Errol Mon, 27th May '02, 11:00pm LOL!! Slappy!
BUt what will happen then... where will Slappy's Slappable Slap-Head go to?
Anyway, why do nice ladies always ask for coffe..why not Tea..possibly with milk in? :p
C'Jakob Mon, 27th May '02, 11:07pm Tea. Plain tea. Milk or sugar with it? Ugh.
Faerus Stoneslammer Mon, 27th May '02, 11:40pm Coffee!! With about 5 spoonfulls of sugar :coffee: and a couple milks.
Ironbeard Tue, 28th May '02, 12:18am Coffee first thing in the morning. Generally Nescafe with milk and sugar.
Any other time, I drink tea made from Tetley teabags with milk and sugar.
I haven't really tried the more expensive stuff, and think I wouldn't like it.
Guess I'm just a barbarian. I'm off to try on a selection of loincloths and find a club.
Jack Funk Tue, 28th May '02, 11:36pm Coffee preferred, although tea is a nice change.
parrotheada1a Wed, 29th May '02, 6:57am I rarely drink tea. When I do,I've gotten into Japanese green tea as a alternative to coffee. I drink it hot & neat. Wonderful stuff if made right, insipid if not. Last year a Chinese lady I work with brought back some really incredible black tea from her hometown in China. She said it was a kind of tea served at weddings & other special occasions. She was gracious enough to give me a bit of it for my own stash. :happy:I asked her what it cost. She replied that it was a gift to her. Some gift. We did a bit of digging on the web, and found something similar or same.(I couldn't confirm, I don't read chinese.) It was ONLY $140.00 LB. ($308.00 Kg) :xx:
Ragusa Wed, 29th May '02, 11:43am I envy you about drinking that tea. The best tea I ever had was Castleton Darjeeling SFTGFOP, 2nd Flush (iirc the tea queen Elisabeth drinks for breakfast). It is actually priced about 198 € per kilo (~ $ 213 per kilo) and I got 1/8 pound (= 62,5g; 1 pound in germany equals 500g to ease calculation) presented on my birthday two years ago. I cooked the last pot around cristmas and it was lovely :) Actually I can't even think about affording a second 1/8 pound at the moment ... :(
/me again found trust in life: Americans seem able to transfer imperial into metric ... now they'd only need to adopt it ... just a minor step ... :spin: ;)
Magnus Magicus Wed, 29th May '02, 12:21pm Real men's coffee: strong and black. ;)
DinoTiggy1 Fri, 14th Jun '02, 2:15pm Tea, with lots of sugar.
And chocolate.
And biscuits.
I only drink coffee to stay up late, but I usually get my cafine boost from coca-cola.
SlimShogun Fri, 14th Jun '02, 4:06pm Neither.
But if I had to choose...tea.
Errol Fri, 14th Jun '02, 5:53pm Tea, two sugars. :)
Earl Grey Fri, 14th Jun '02, 9:11pm Take a wild guess why don't you! :D
Sirdan Sat, 15th Jun '02, 11:23am :coffee: strong and black :1eye:
