View Full Version : I hate anime
GabrielNYC Mon, 14th Apr '03, 7:04pm Well no, not really.. I don't hate all anime. I like Cowboy Bebop, Big O, Golgo-13 and other serious ones.
I just despise the cutesy **** like Tenchi Muyo, or that insipid hamster one.
I also hate those mondo-weirdo freaks who think anime is the only way of life.
I hate how some of them actually say and use cartoon character's facial expressions in conversations like "Oh my god no!. Sweatdrop!"
I hate how some of these "otaku" (on a sidenote, I found out otaku in japan is used to describe someone obsessive and weird) dress up like some characters. Mind you, I wouldn't mind seeing a beautiful woman dressed in something nice and the like but when it's a short, smelly, severly overweight boy dressed up like SAILOR MOON then I have a problem.
I find it very annoying how some of these weirdo fans think a cartoon of a woman being raped by a demon who has 20 penisessssese is erotic and entertaining.
I'm sick of 14 year old girls with 48 DDD bust lines, bunny ears and even bigger guns!
GAH.
Flame me if you want, but this is my rant against the bad side of anime and the obsessed weirdos.
LKD Mon, 14th Apr '03, 7:19pm I'm with you, Gabriel! I lived in the Land of the Rising Sun for two years, and while I love a large number of things about the country and its culture, anime is not one of them. To me, it is cheaply produced, shoddily put together (that could be an aspect of the translation, but I wouldn't bet my life on that) and often disgustingly pornographic (which I realize may not be a downside to some people, but it sure is to me!)
GabrielNYC Mon, 14th Apr '03, 7:27pm I know what you mean. I love the country, the culture, the history..the sociological & technological advances..but I hate the cartoons. Yes I know they're a form of entertainment but it seems as if American anime fans are a bit too obsessed with it. One intern I trained commented she is going to get a job teaching english in japan just so she can buy anime.
God... Sure forget about the tons of cool clubs/bars, historical sites, stores and the like. Go buy some cheesy cartoon when a girl with cat ears, absurdly large breasts gets drenched in semen all the while carrying a giant glowing sword in her quest to find the ultimate evil (yet again)
You know what was good? The anime from the late 70s to the early 80s like Galaxy Express 999 (such deeply moving messages), Macross and the like.
chevalier Mon, 14th Apr '03, 7:29pm Even pornography can be done well sometimes. Anime though is mostly just like Gabriel has said and Depaara confirmed. So I'm with you two too ;)
Especially the girls that would normally have had their spines broken due to overload. Generally I dislike big ones, but those Hindenburgs just drive me mad. It's morbid, sick and perverse. Same or even much more so the age. Those toons are mostly laden with gruppenslash and sado-maso accessories. It's awful that people are turned on by that.
Howver, some, and I repeat: some of anime is good, even very good, but it's a mere minority, some barely noticeable fraction.

GabrielNYC Mon, 14th Apr '03, 7:37pm too right chevalier. thats why i love cowboy bebop and other similar ones. stories and character development! but i also agree with you about pornography if its done well. like a playboy photoshoot for example.
then you have stuff like Legend of the Overfiend. great googly moogly..that **** is too intense. its hard to imagine someone being sexually aroused by the image of a nubile grade school girl being raped by a robot possesed by a devil.
Death Rabbit Mon, 14th Apr '03, 7:41pm Dude, you'll really like this page then. It's from one of my favorite sites: http://maddox.xmission.com/anime_nerd.html
But I do agree with you. There are the classics, like Akira, Vampire Hunter D, and Fist of the North Star - stories that actually have an interesting story and the characters are semi-realistic. But the Anime wave does take a strange turn here in the states, I've noticed. What's really sad are the hard-core "otaku" dorks who don't know (or seem to care) the difference between the anime for adults and the stuff that is clearly made for little girls. That type of Anime doesn't annoy me any more than Power Rangers or something otherwise repugnant stateside would, because I know it's for kids.
I'd be interested to know if the Japanese laugh at that. The sight of a 300 pound sweaty pizza-face shoehorning himself into a size 'M' Bubblegum Crisis T-shirt is enough to make any Japanese animator drop his pencil and back away slowly. I like a lot of Anime, but I know when fandome gets rediculous. I guess it's the culture that surrounds it that's bugs me most.
Wordplay Mon, 14th Apr '03, 7:55pm It“s the Rule: cheap is always ugly and disgusting, expensive always fun and enticing -be it even a ten year old shoe (renamed to "Le Shoe dė Matūre.").
But seriously; when it comes to boobs, I prefer healthy looking :p , so seeing even a glimpse of those perverted... oh, sorry... over-grown and un-natural ones in an anime, or anywhere else, makes me change channel very quick. But I guess this is just the thing that entices some people: that something that could not be in reality. After all, anime is a play toy of fantasy. It“s just a shame that some people take it to extremes, like everything else...
C“mon, what“s so wrong if people have some fun in costume parties? (Even if they are a bit wide from the waist and Sailor Moon fans...)
Note #1: boobs always steal the attention. :p Here“s a new topic for ya: "Boobs, are men genetically attracted to them?"
Note #2:  That man is a real male-*****!
this talk show host has a lot of sass, too bad her head is up her ass! Note #3: Wow, nice looking computer at the banner...

GabrielNYC Mon, 14th Apr '03, 7:56pm Rabbit there you have it..the hardcore fans are certainly one of the reasons I dont tell some ppl I like anime. Normal fans are automatically lumped in with those freaks
GREAT site btw!
Death Rabbit Mon, 14th Apr '03, 8:17pm @Virne
"Here“s a new topic for ya: "Boobs, are men genetically attracted to them?" "
Yes we are. :thumb: On a primative level, we see a female's large, productive breasts as a sign of fertility, as with wide hips. These combined with a healthy body suggest an ideal mate who will produce strong children (who says college anthropology classes aren't interesting?). Sadly, it's in our programming. I try in vain to explain this to my girlfriend when she says, "but they're just bags of fat! I don't get it."
Now, boobs on the stereotypical Anime fan on the other hand - the site of which are enough to make you impotent for at least a month - are quite another matter.
GabrielNYC Mon, 14th Apr '03, 8:29pm HEAR HEAR!
WOW!! (http://www.photoclubs.com)
I debating whether or not to visit this store in Manhattan called "Anime Crash". I want to know if they would sell dvd's of the Big O, but I just hope it's not a hokey store like those "Morning Glory" shops...
Shura Tue, 15th Apr '03, 11:36am I'm more of a manga (comic) fan than an anime fan, but I find the views against anime a tad too harsh here.
There is an equivalent amount of horrible, lousy western cartoons in existence as well, I might point out.
And anime and hentai should be kept strictly apart, fellows. Hentai is animated porn. Anime is japanese animation. There is a big difference there.
Morgoth Tue, 15th Apr '03, 1:57pm Well actually Anime started in France *gasp* (Frogs! can you imagine??)
But there are really crappy anime and bad,
I liked Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, but *shudders* Dragonball was so fake
Master of Nuhn Tue, 15th Apr '03, 4:56pm Well, I hate anime and manga stuff like Dragonball, Pokemon, Digimon and lots and loads more.
Only things I like, are Shrek (haven't seen Ice Age yet), Tom & Jerry and Cow & Chicken.
GabrielNYC Tue, 15th Apr '03, 6:40pm Come on Shura :) I dont mean ALL anime is bad.
I think my view is quite fair. Name one american cartoon depicts women as sex objects. G.I. Joe? Ozzie and Drix? Scooby Doo? The Simpsons doesn't count because it's wholly satirical and aimed at an adult market initially.
I'm not talking about the animation as well. Though I have been sick of the constant usage of speed lines in every damned cartoon.
hentai falls right into the category of japanimation because it's animated.
I hate the obsessive fans that seem to have the notion life in japan is similar to some cartoons.
One girl I know in Colorado is taking classes to learn japanese just so she can watch anime. what about using a foreign language for a career, watching cinema or reading great works of literature or even living in japan? it's such a waste of valued class time. sure, she is getting credit towards graduation. but using what you learned just to watch cartoons..come on.
I asked one fellow that was the most talkative in a chat room if he knew stuff about japan that isnt anime or video game related. he didnt know it was rude to blow one's nose in public for example. he didnt know how abusive some school teachers can be towards some students (some even cross the line; one teacher berated a handicapped student!). he didnt know about non-anime movies or non-jpop music. he didnt know how poorly run some police precincts in certain prefectures. he didnt know how the japanese look down upon the ainu or koreans born there (being born in the country does not count as being a citizen). all he knew about japan is crap he read about in fanzines and on the web. the gimp even considered manga to be lowbrow because it wasnt animated. "You cant see the expression on their faces!"
go figure.
chevalier Tue, 15th Apr '03, 7:21pm @Death Rabbit: Generally the more is a man's sexuality oriented on reproducing, the more he goes for large breasts and wide hips. Some generally less reproductory men are inclined towards moderate dimensions of the sort 36-24-36 and some very few prefer 34-22-34, so it's not like every guy dreaming of huge boobs.
In evaluating anime, I may be generally overly harsh since I am closest to the last group mentionned, but I'm trying my best to be objective. Still, not going for anything below 40 is sick and I suppose we all agree here. Especially if it's some (pre)teen with 38-40 breasts and 36-38 hips like it generally is in anime.
Death Rabbit Tue, 15th Apr '03, 7:39pm Yes, Chev, I did mean in general, not every guy. I offered that explaination because on a logical level, I do agree with my girlfriend - I think it's odd we're so fascinated with those wonderful "bags of fat." I'm still happily fascinated just the same. :D
And also, I think extreme features are a big part of the larger-than-life feel that makes cartoons and comic book artwork so impressive and appealing. But putting these super-sized sexual features on schoolgirls is downright creepy and borders on pedophylia, or at least encourages the idea IMO.
I'm all for the beautiful bucksome scantily-clad tough-talkin' machine-gun-packin' universe-saving heroines of comics and anime - hey, it makes for the 'fantasy' aspect that makes it so much fun. But when the 'fantasy' dips into the immoral and/or criminal side, it then ceases to be art and stoops down to just plain old smut.
Gothmog Tue, 15th Apr '03, 8:59pm Well until now i didnt have much bad experiences with anime. In fact i've gotten some really good ones:
Rurouni kenshin
Berserk
Scryed
All of these three are great series and would certainly improve your views on anime (and hard drive usage ;) ).
If you have DSL or cable or any other such connection its really easy to get them. They're free fan-for-fan do its not considered warez.
There are many more good animes out there but those three are my best :D
Edit: Oh, yeah i must point out that the first encounter with anime wasnt very encouraging, as i saw sailor moon which i don't really like. But i still tried some others and those really fascinated me. :D
LKD Tue, 15th Apr '03, 9:31pm Perhaps I should expand on my statements. Not all "art" is appealing to all people, and a pile of poo referred to as "art" is still just a pile of poo to any non-pretentious person.
Now, going to anime, there may be some good stories out there using this particular "art" form (my jury's still out on whether it really is an art form!) but even if it is, it is not an art form that I find aesthetically satisfying.
Take another art form I find annoying -- Opera. Now, I admit that it takes great skill to hit those high notes and to do so for extended periods of time. I still hate it -- sounds like someone being tortured to death. The same thing may be said of Anime -- while it may take great skill to draw unrealistically and produce minimalistically, it is still not something appealing to this cowboy.
Now please note, I never said other people couldn't enjoy the form, just as I've never said people who like opera shouldn't be allowed to enjoy that form, so go flame someone else :p
Wordplay Tue, 15th Apr '03, 9:53pm One girl I know in Colorado is taking classes to learn japanese just so she can watch anime. what about using a foreign language for a career, watching cinema or reading great works of literature or even living in japan? it's such a waste of valued class time. Not all are so career centered as you are, but I think she will be very happy that at least *something* made her learn a foreing language other than the ones taught in school.
GabrielNYC Wed, 16th Apr '03, 3:05am Gothmog: you mentioned 3 more good ones. I like the Kenshin one cause it reminds me of Ranma 1/2 and that is definitely one of the better ones. The humor is silly and risque, along the lines of the Simpsons and sometimes Adult Swim I daresay.
Virne: That's true, at least she is learning something.
Bulges Wed, 16th Apr '03, 6:06am I agree that many people that 'like' anime are a bit freaky. But then so are the Trekkis, Star Wars fanatics, Tolkien buffs, comic book fans, etc... (BTW, I am two of those things I just mentioned).
Every entertainment form has its detractors, its fans AND its fanatics.
Me, I like anime. I like all different levels of it. I love the Patlabor series, along with Golgo 13, Vampire Hunter D and Ninja Scroll (to name just a few). But I also like the lower brow fare such as Tenchi Moyo, Dragonball (all incarnations), and Dragon Knight.
And I like hentai too. And as with regular anime, all different kinds. What difference is there my girlfriend and I watch animated porn or live-action porn? Yes, I like big boobs too.
But does this make me a freak? No. I don't live my life for this stuff, just like I don't live my life for my job, or my car, or garden. They are things I enjoy (such as anime) but I don't go advertising everywhere I go. Sure, I go to Trek conventions, and I even dressed up once, but I don't live in Federation Town (or whatever it is called).
What is my point? My point is that you can be a fan, but not be insipid about it. And also, anime/hentai (which ARE different) are not the only pop-cultural entertainments that have thier share of freaks. Is there something that set you off perticularly on anime?
But I am in agreement with one 100% about one thing Gabrial NYC. Hamtaro makes me want to puke.
Shura Wed, 16th Apr '03, 12:31pm Ladies and gentlemen, do pay attention to the above post and take note that hentai and anime are two different things.
Just another reminder.
Manga should not be missed as well.
Deepsea Anglerfish Wed, 16th Apr '03, 6:00pm i cant say much as i am not an "otaku"
those anime and manga are classified into different category, for all ages, >18, and in between
>all ages... it is all ages doesnt means it is for kids only, lots of great anime are of all ages, and lots of adults do enjoy them (eg snow sugar, i do love watching them)
>18 are those H animes...
>"the in between" are those eg huge boobs, cute little girls wearing a tide short dress, teddy bear underwear and those bathing scenes etc, those are not H ...those are called "service" anime, people want to watch it, and artist made them mainly because of market needs(doa x is hot... this is the reason), japan is a male dominant country
about the "Oh my god no!. Sweatdrop!" thing, i'd rather say - oh my god no!. \(=__="\) (/"o__O)/
hey everyone in japan, korea, taiwan, hong kong, mainland china is using this to express their "emotion", this is our "web culture"
by the way, otaku is not a polite word, it only refers to those of the extreme, never use the word in front of a japanese!!!!
thank you / :D

Bulges Sat, 19th Apr '03, 5:25pm Hey GabrielNYC, I just found a site that you might be interested in. You are more right than you thought.
Right here (http://www.cosplay.com/)
chevalier Sat, 19th Apr '03, 6:03pm Well, of course manga, anime and hentai are three different things. Manga itself is rarely 'adult', but well... it's too sheepish for my liking. Anime is nice - some of it. Most of that is still sheepish. Also I'm not saying no to hentai. Well, I'm not exactly missionary type, but there are some borders.
GabrielNYC Sat, 19th Apr '03, 7:15pm ARRRGH!! @#$%^&-ing hell!
COSPLAY!! I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THEM!
I definitely think they're much worse than the Trekkies. On a bus I rather sit next to a Klingon or a star fleet officer instead of some smelly, annoying doofus dressed up like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy.
Compulsive Dementia Mon, 21st Apr '03, 10:03pm I agree completely.
Icingdeath45 Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 10:42pm Some anime is awesome...but others just suck.
GabrielNYC Thu, 24th Apr '03, 6:56am You know what's bad about some anime.
how the villain always has light colored hair and is effeminate. Always swishing the hair back, subtle homosexual way of carrying themselves.
Ive yet to see a masculine, macho villain. not just the hired goons or such. I mean the big boss etc.
riddle me this: some women cannot understand why some men like watching lesbians but yet some female anime fans like reading manga and watching anime when two men are getting it on and the like.
double standard?
why is it that feminine men are so much more appealing to female anime/manga fans?
WHAT is up with this sudden trend of american comic artists trying to draw manga style? ..but it's that one style of big eyes, small mouths.
why cant any american wanna-be manga artists try to like the lone wolf and cub series, samurai crusader etc?
****ing cutesy ****.
Beren Thu, 24th Apr '03, 12:31pm Most anime is pure junk not worthy the cassettes or DVDs they get put onto.
I did like the Street Fighter series (not the movie, that was junk) that had something like 28 episodes.
Ninja Scroll was absolutely one of the awesomest movies I have ever watched. Great action, a story that's quite good (though stretched on a few points), and thoroughly imaginative characters.
GabrielNYC Sun, 27th Apr '03, 4:20am I knew if I started this topic, I could've gotten flamed or the like here. I expected it to be honest.
But instead, someone saw fit to email me insults, threats and obvious files that are infected with viruses.
****ing coward. Why don't you flame me here? Why not put these wonderful "arguments" in favor of the more idiotic anime here?
Piece of **** snivelling rat. Why don't you jerk off to some Tenchi Muyo or some cat eared 12 year old girl with 48HHH breasts?
After all, it seems as if those women are the only kind that won't reject your pathetic, immature attempts at romance. A real woman would kick you in the balls for being such a spaz.
I love it how these geeks are so tough when they hide behind a computer.
Shura Sun, 27th Apr '03, 5:11am They flamed you through mail? Perhaps if you knew who they were, you could report them to the mods on this board if they are Sp'ers as well.
Seriously, I would not have expected this of SP. Heated opinions, many pointed debates yes. But mail flaming? Hmmm.
BTW, Gabriel, don't diss all anime/manga. The japanese are amongst the best story-tellers in the world, and anime/manga is simply an excellent medium for story-telling.
Masataka Sun, 27th Apr '03, 7:54pm i jes wanted to say that there some animes wich are very good in my opion...such as:
X TV series (movie sux kinda)
Ghost in the Shell
Record of Lodoss war
Vision of Escaflowne (my alltime favorite)
Neon Genesis Evangelion
but still, there are some very bad ones
LKD Sun, 27th Apr '03, 9:53pm I was under the impression that e-mail flaming was the way to go if you wanted to flame -- doesn't the FAQ state, in essence "if you want to flame someone, do it OFF these boards"?
Or did I miss some sarcasm from you, Shura?
Back to Anime, it may simply be a case of cultural barriers to understanding -- I have yet to really get a lot of the storyline to a lot of Japanese storytelling. As for Hentai (I'm assuming this term refers to animated porn?) well, I suppose all porn has it's place, though if I were to decided to watch porn I'd rather watch real live women as opposed to drawings, but maybe there are benefits to the drawings. I'll certainly never know!
chevalier Sun, 27th Apr '03, 10:00pm Gabriel, I am with you. However, I think that that would-be geek is a thirteen year old of the sort that Eze hates ;)
Deimos Phenom Mon, 28th Apr '03, 1:35am First off, the flaming-mail-spaz should die of some freakish tropical disease and rot in oblivion.
That being said, I was wondering if anyone else got duped into joining the "Best of Anime II" collection. First I got M.D. Geist 2 (not 1, mind you, but 2), and aside from the fact that it had a confusing storyline, terrible voice-acting, and mediocre animation, it sucked. Then they sent me "Wrath of the Ninja." I shut it off halfway through and didn't bother watching the end for several months. I still wish I hadn't. The soundtrack reminded me of porn music. Fortunately I cancelled before I had to pay for any more crap.
Ninja Scroll rocks, by the way. And Vamp D and Akira, of course. Cowboy Bebop was fun to watch on occasion, but I gave up trying to stay up to watch it on CN. And Hamtaro is the devil.
Thank you.
GabrielNYC Mon, 28th Apr '03, 2:35am As I mentioned before I don't hate ALL anime/manga. I hate the ones that degrade women, treat the viewer/reader as a retard, silly **** that isn't even funny (there is a weird on Fox called Fighting Foodons; the hell is that about??) or worse still..the obsessed fans. So those 3 I will continually rip.
The manga & anime I like are:
Fist of the North Star
Golgo-13
The Big 0
CowBoy BeBop
Crying Freeman
Samurai Crusader
Blade of the Immortal
Lone Wolf & Cub
The Real Ghostbusters (the one that aired on Fox in the 80s, not the weirdo crap on ABC)
Mazinger
Kasshan
Record of the Lodoss War
Captain Harlock
Galaxy Express 999
and some others I can't remember.
It just irks me that many people think anime/manga is nothing more than "big eyes and small mouth" or "giant breasts on a 14 year old girl" **** when there is so much more.
Beren Mon, 28th Apr '03, 5:50am GabrielNYC,
I sympathize with your distaste of the effete villain thing.
In this regard, you may want to check out the "Ninja Scroll" movie that I lauded praise on.
Two warnings are in order first:
Warning #1: A female character named Kagero comes very close to being degraded in the worst kind of way. BUT ... the hero, Jubei Kubigami, saves her from the worst of it. Afterwards, her experience is treated with a definite sensitivity.
Warning #2: There is one effete villain type in the movie, Yurimaru, but in truth he is subservient to ...
Himaru Gemma - Easily the tallest bad-boy in Japan. He's really muscular, really evil, real manly (no lifting of his pinky from this dude), really brutal, and is just dying to put the hurt on Jubei.

GabrielNYC Mon, 28th Apr '03, 6:00am I've heard nothing but good things about Ninja Scroll and it's sequel Ninja Resurrection. I have been looking for something to rent for next weekend.
Thanks for the heads up Beren!
I wonder..is there an anime for Lone Wolf & Cub? I own the live action movies, but it would be cool to see it animated
The Soul Forever Seeking Mon, 28th Apr '03, 11:05pm I don't think anyone mentioned this before here, but I may have missed it. (There were a lot of posts basically repeating the same stuff, not that I'm complaining, but I skim the ones that re-iterate earlier posts.)
Anime, sometimes called 'Japanimation', is a reference to that certain style of animation, with the big eyes, non-existant noses, etc.
Hentai is just a term for Anime porn.
Did you know that? The word 'hentai' is Japanese for 'pervert'. Someone, somewhere in Japan is laughing at Americans right now. Well now you know!
GabrielNYC Tue, 29th Apr '03, 2:46am I doubt the hardcore american 'otaku' know that! *snicker*
NoYur_Role Wed, 11th Jun '03, 1:53am Granted there are Animes out there which really suck... but there are also some brilliant ones too... case in point how can you possibly argue against Cowboy Bebop? IMHO Bebop is the best anime EVER CONCIEVED!!!!
Wordplay Wed, 11th Jun '03, 10:20am Bebop is the best anime EVER Never heard of it. What is it? ;)
Volsung Wed, 11th Jun '03, 12:57pm Futurama and Southpark are the best cartoons I've ever seen.
Khazraj Wed, 11th Jun '03, 1:15pm I'm not really into the Japanese animation or any other animation actually.
I remember seeing a hentai at a friend's house once (he was from Hong Kong and it was translated to Cantonese) and I thought it was dumb. Perhaps the real thing, or even better, and real life relationship would have helped.
I saw a good Japanese animated movie about a "pig" (he was really a man with a piglike face) who was a pilot in the 1920's or so. That was a good film and had a very interesting story.
I am assuming that the above is not Anime, right Shura?
I loved a series called "Star Blazers" as a kid, and even watched Astroboy for a while way back then.
I don't allow my kids to watch Dragon Balls or Pokemon or any other "mon", not because it happens to be Japanese (although I think the cultural gap is too wide for me) be because it just happens to be drivel. I am the same about American animations on this. They are just drivel, so my kids can live without them. Go read a book (not a comic, a book!)
As Beren stated about the limited 28 episodes. Give the story a rest and keep it sweet. All good things must come to an end.
How many episodes has Dragonballs got? A few hundred? It must be almost as ridiculously long as the Bold and the Beautiful.
Gabriel.
Is it possible that some women characters are poorly portrayed or poorly translated. I think some of the ways in which women are portrayed in Western animation such as Mu Lan, (which is just soooo Chinese!) Anastasia, Little Mermaid and the rest are quite...hmm... Actually I think I'll let Shura come up with a totally unbiased and not culturally loaded adjective here!
Shura. I am being sarcastic above. I think that you may have a similar view towards western animation as Gabriel does to eastern?
Shura Wed, 11th Jun '03, 2:31pm Not really, seeing as I do enjoy quite a few western animations like the Simpsons, Batman and Batman Beyond, X-men to name a few.
I tend to steer clear of anime that DOES potray women as unproportionate freaks with overly large eyes. Such degradation of females is admittedly much less prevalent in western animations, however.
I don't really get your point though, Kharzaj. Perhaps I'm too tired now, but if you could rephrase your statement it would be easier for me to respond properly to it.
rastilin Thu, 12th Jun '03, 9:14am Speaking of fantasy I just remembered something.
One experiment was done where a person videotaped a piece of paper dangling by a string attached to the ceiling. When the video was played it was discovered that the paper could be affected through telekenesis into moving. Here's the hitch, the original paper was'nt affected, only the one on the TV screen. So what was being affected? The picture on the screen is after all only light waves. On the 1% that this story is actually true it would be an interesting thing to study, and you could kick the ass of those effete males you seem to hate so much.
Khazraj Thu, 12th Jun '03, 3:27pm Shura.
I mean, Mu Lan (Disney version) was so authentically Chinese...NOT!
How would you describe the way women are portrayed in Anastasia, Little Mermaid etc, (other Disney movies), both physically and personality.
Gabriel
I notice that men also tend to have large eyes and long legs in some Japanese animation. How is that different from the femmes?
GabrielNYC Fri, 13th Jun '03, 3:51am to Virne: Cowboy Bebop is this well written, well characterized animated series about two bounty-hunters, one a former gangster..the other a former cop. they hook with a comely lass who is a ne'er do well and a decidedly insane child prodigy who is a wiz at computer hacking. the setting is the distant future in which humans have colonized other planets. no big robots with swords, no chi manipulating fighters, no bunny ears.
all action, great dialogue, even cooler music
Khaz: Well for one thing the men in japanimation aren't drawn with huge genitals are they? I dont see Goku from DBZ swinging his little saiyan around. I do realized that some anime has a stylized view of women in general but some series just go overboard and it's very sickening in a diabetes inducing sugary sweet manner. That's why I'm much more partial to anime from the 70s (Lupin III, Mazinger, Cyborg 009, Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock) to the late 80s (Golgo-13, Fist of the North Star, Macross Saga & Ranma 1/2). Mind you, I also like some of the newer ones like BeBop. As for the long legs, I dont know..depends on the creator I guess.
I think that's a reason why BeBop is so popular with older japanimatin fans, the style is very similar to the cartoons from the 70s &80s. Jet's beard, the way the ships are designed, how every charactr (even the bounties have fleshed out personalities).

New Wed, 23rd Jul '03, 7:43pm REVIVAL OF A OLD TOPIC!!
I personally enjoy anime, mainly because it usually has a ending (UNLIKE AMERICAN CARTOONS) a good plot (Unlike American cartoons) and usually better drawing then American cartoons. I personally do NOT want to watch the &^(&(&^% Powerpuff Girls slay the same damn monsters over and over, and in anime, the story is darker sometimes, and more confusing.
But Hamtaro sucks.
And Dragonball Z. I mean, come on, who want's to watch the same fight over and over? It's always the same!! Goku dies, bad guy dies, blahblahblah.
But the GOOD anime out there should be watched.
El-Hazard was a comidic/adventure anime, and I enjoyed the three episodes I saw. (>_<) Cowboy Beebop is very good, and it has a little humor as well as good action. Love Hina is my favey, mainly due to the humor. It's a little unrealistic, but it is a really good story, and SHINOBU'S SO CUTE!~! ^_^
Neon Genesis Evangelion is the best Sci-Fi anime. It has a great storyline, a good plot, and a dozen pitfalls. Impossiple to understand all of it the first time watched.
Arabwel Thu, 24th Jul '03, 7:24am I have to admit, I actually watch DBZ if it's on and I am for some weird reason ac tually watching TV... I can't resist a good laugh.
Sephiroth Thu, 24th Jul '03, 9:41am Dragonball Z, whew. I have to admit I saw very much episodes, because they were quite funny :D
I watch anime quite often, although there aren't any good animes at tv in last time, but sometimes I'm that bored that I watch them, and you have to admit, that they are better than sitcoms !
And New you're right, Hamtaro sucks ! That's the same with Pokemon. Many of the newer animes are only produced because of the money. O.k., the earlier Animes were produced to earn money, too, but the author of the animes put his heart into this things. There weren't such stuff like Pokemon, wich episodes are all the same ( Ash with Picatchu help poor people whose pokemon are taken away by Team Rocket ). And I can't imagine why Pokemon was so sucssesfull, even small kids have to see that it's terrible !
New Thu, 24th Jul '03, 7:04pm Some of the best anime's were great because they were SHORT! They had great material, and didn't take 1234 episodes to dish it all out. Neon Genesis Evangelion, the greatest Sci-Fi anime of all time, was twenty six episodes, and three movies long. The movies were there to make another ending. You don't need a constipated dude in kung fu clothes to make a great anime.
