Do any of you well rounded smart people know of programs that were used to make BG and games like that? I'm really into understanding how these things work and i want to experment with the programs to see what can be done.

Indeed, you can better ask this to the people that made this game. You can change things in the game etc. with the Infinite Explorer, but how that program is made... I think C++ or something :) Ask this on the official BG forums or on the teambg site.
