Viking Sun, 24th Feb '02, 12:57pm Mullusken of little faith. 30k too far for Bente Skari?
Still even if there are no more medals, all I can say is "Go team Norway!!!" What a performance!
"We're lovin' it like that!"
Extremist Sun, 24th Feb '02, 2:50pm Lusk, do I see it right?
Norway has about 4,500,000 citizens according to you.
Impossible.
[EDIT]
Sorry, I've just checked the net... It is true?!?! Who would think that...
[This message has been edited by Extremist (edited February 24, 2002).]
Mollusken Sun, 24th Feb '02, 4:25pm Forgot the 30km . I'll update the post if we win something there ;).
Of course it is true, Extremist. That's the amazing part :). I don't get top grades in math for nothing :p.
Edit:
No medals in the 30km :(. Only 4th and 5th place...

Maertyn Sun, 24th Feb '02, 10:55pm Well, and the winning country is... Deutschland!
I'm glad the US-Americans didn't make it to the top; I just couldn't stand TV news full of babbling arrogant American Pseudo-heroes.
Sir Belisarius Sun, 24th Feb '02, 11:10pm  (for the comment above)
Congrats to Canada for getting the Gold in Hockey...Twice!
 (for the comment below me as well)
[This message has been edited by Sir Belisarius (edited February 24, 2002).]
Maertyn Sun, 24th Feb '02, 11:23pm Yeah congratulations! They kicked the US-American's asses!
Gnolyn Lochbreaker Sun, 24th Feb '02, 11:29pm Wow! What a Game!!
I'm watching at home, and all I can hear are horns and cheers on the street outside!!
50 Years Later :) :)
And kudos the US team - they had a great run.
Kitiara Sun, 24th Feb '02, 11:40pm Woo hooo Canada the world champions of hockey all around.
/me does the happy happy dance
:rolling:  :spin: :hippy:
Wildfire Sun, 24th Feb '02, 11:48pm Great Britain rock!
1 Gold - Curling
0 Silver
2 Bronze - Skeleton & Alpine Skiing
I blame it on our temperate climate. ;) :D
Maertyn Sun, 24th Feb '02, 11:56pm LOL, good to have an excuse, eh?
Black Rose Mon, 25th Feb '02, 12:15am U.S. did play a hell of a game. They also outplayed Canada all through the tourney, except the championship game.
Kudos to those Canadians winning it though. Amazing team defense at the end.
Maertyn Mon, 25th Feb '02, 12:33am Did you know that the U.S. is only 3rd here in Europe? Because we measure the success by gold medals first and thus they are behind Norway - hehe.
Mirkwood Mon, 25th Feb '02, 12:53am Well Australia, whose skiing season lasts for all of about 2 weeks a year, won 2 gold medals. Yay!
Turambar Mon, 25th Feb '02, 7:51am Well seems like Germany wont be winning the Olympics any way. With all the cheating going on Norway will be getting a minimum of two more medals.
If the cheaters had gotten all of their medals taken away from them Norway would have had
13 Gold medals
5 Silver
7 Bronze
Mollusken Mon, 25th Feb '02, 8:03am I just hate cheaters

Christopher_Lee Mon, 25th Feb '02, 1:11pm Why isnt cricket an olympic sport? How many countries play Baseball at top level compared to how many play cricket? hmm... american bias somewhere...
Mollusken Mon, 25th Feb '02, 1:13pm Is there that any countries except England and India who plays cricket?
Christopher_Lee Mon, 25th Feb '02, 1:16pm There are loads. New zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, West Indies. Well, actually that's about it. By the way since there isn't a GB team (but separately england, wales, scotland, NI) Britain actually couldn't play at the Olympics (we can't play football for the same reason).:confused::1eye:
[This message has been edited by Christopher_Lee (edited February 25, 2002).]
Corr Raven Mon, 25th Feb '02, 1:27pm Cricket is stupid. it's just plain stupid. It's like baseball for wusses.
Football (soccer) and icehockey...
The best two sports by far.
Christopher_Lee Mon, 25th Feb '02, 2:17pm Actually baseball is for wusses. Cricket is for upper class twits (and I am one), faggots, inbred people and so forth.
Hence maybe it should be included in the winter olympics and hockey moved to the summer with the rest of normal sports. :D:D:D
[This message has been edited by Christopher_Lee (edited February 25, 2002).]
Viking Mon, 25th Feb '02, 2:37pm I think Cricket actually was an olympic sport once. About 1908 or 1912 the games were held in London (White City), and I think they included cricket. talk about pandering to the locals.
Other excellent olympic sports have included Tug of war I think, and certainly high jump and long jump without a run-up.
Sport isn't what it once was I say. :D
Arabwel Mon, 25th Feb '02, 3:28pm Someone who knows this, tell me, what was the vbest total of one person winning GOld medals?
Samppa Lajunen had 3. :)
Ara
(Mean, nasty... thing with a habit of infecting people with odd ideas...)
Mollusken Mon, 25th Feb '02, 3:46pm Eric Heiden (USA) won 5 gold medals in speed skating (in the same olympics). Ole Einar Bjørndalen (Norway) is second with his 4 biathlon gold medals during the last two weeks.
Bjørn Dæhlie (Norway) won 8 olympic gold medals in cross country skiing during the 90s (Albertville -92, Lillehammer -94 and Nagano -98). Together with 4 silver medals, he is the most succesful olympian ever.
Voltric Mon, 25th Feb '02, 4:57pm Overall I think it was one of the better winter games. Good coverage and not a overwelming number of sob stories. Good events with lots of drama and action. I just wish the less popular events received more air time. I don't care if an American is in them I just want to see stuff I normally don't have a chance to.
I'm looking forward to Greece in 2004
Christopher_Lee Mon, 25th Feb '02, 5:29pm To be fair, no one cared if there was an american in any of the events. The way the (american) producers dictated what was shown in other countries around the american participants was poor. As was the favouring of the american sportsmen (clean the track in the womens skeleton final? just before the two americans run...)
Maertyn Mon, 25th Feb '02, 11:31pm From Turambar:
Well seems like Germany wont be winning the Olympics any way. With all the cheating going on Norway will be getting a minimum of two more medals.
You sound very sure about this matter. I went to www.olympics.com (http://www.olympics.com) and guess what - Norway still has "only" 11 gold medals. Not to mention the US-Americans rate the countries by total medals - Norway would have to get 13(!!!) more medals to come colse to Germany :p
Arabwel Tue, 26th Feb '02, 7:09am Well, in the Finnish Ice Hockey team there is this guy, Raimo Helminen.... these were his sixth Olympics. That's a record :)
Ara
(Pinting out itty bitty little details.... )
Mollusken Tue, 26th Feb '02, 6:45pm Maertyn: silver and bronze is loss. We only count the victories :D.
Turambar Wed, 27th Feb '02, 10:54am Taking medals away from a person in the olympics is no small matter so it isn't done in 5 minutes(lot's of politics and ****)
But to quote Bush "Make no mistake, the evildoers will get what is coming to them"(or something like that)
The IOC president has actually made an official statement that they will lose their medals.
Jack Funk Wed, 27th Feb '02, 6:17pm It was a fun olympics. Watching in America can be frustrating (as noted above). It was nice to see some events that did not prominently feature American competitors. I hope they do more of this in the future.
