Still even if there are no more medals, all I can say is "Go team Norway!!!" What a performance!

Lusk, do I see it right?

Norway has about 4,500,000 citizens according to you.

Impossible.

[EDIT]
Sorry, I've just checked the net... It is true?!?! Who would think that...

Of course it is true, Extremist. That's the amazing part :). I don't get top grades in math for nothing :p.

Edit:

No medals in the 30km :(. Only 4th and 5th place...

Well, and the winning country is... Deutschland!

I'm glad the US-Americans didn't make it to the top; I just couldn't stand TV news full of babbling arrogant American Pseudo-heroes.

U.S. did play a hell of a game. They also outplayed Canada all through the tourney, except the championship game.

Kudos to those Canadians winning it though. Amazing team defense at the end.

Did you know that the U.S. is only 3rd here in Europe? Because we measure the success by gold medals first and thus they are behind Norway - hehe.

Well Australia, whose skiing season lasts for all of about 2 weeks a year, won 2 gold medals. Yay!

Turambar

Well seems like Germany wont be winning the Olympics any way. With all the cheating going on Norway will be getting a minimum of two more medals.

If the cheaters had gotten all of their medals taken away from them Norway would have had
13 Gold medals
5 Silver
7 Bronze

Why isnt cricket an olympic sport? How many countries play Baseball at top level compared to how many play cricket? hmm... american bias somewhere...

Mollusken
Mon, 25th Feb '02, 1:13pm
Is there that any countries except England and India who plays cricket?

Christopher_Lee
Mon, 25th Feb '02, 1:16pm
There are loads. New zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, West Indies. Well, actually that's about it. By the way since there isn't a GB team (but separately england, wales, scotland, NI) Britain actually couldn't play at the Olympics (we can't play football for the same reason).:confused::1eye:

Cricket is stupid. it's just plain stupid. It's like baseball for wusses.

Football (soccer) and icehockey...
The best two sports by far.

Christopher_Lee
Mon, 25th Feb '02, 2:17pm
Actually baseball is for wusses. Cricket is for upper class twits (and I am one), faggots, inbred people and so forth.

Hence maybe it should be included in the winter olympics and hockey moved to the summer with the rest of normal sports. :D:D:D

I think Cricket actually was an olympic sport once. About 1908 or 1912 the games were held in London (White City), and I think they included cricket. talk about pandering to the locals.

Other excellent olympic sports have included Tug of war I think, and certainly high jump and long jump without a run-up.

Sport isn't what it once was I say. :D

Eric Heiden (USA) won 5 gold medals in speed skating (in the same olympics). Ole Einar Bjørndalen (Norway) is second with his 4 biathlon gold medals during the last two weeks.

Bjørn Dæhlie (Norway) won 8 olympic gold medals in cross country skiing during the 90s (Albertville -92, Lillehammer -94 and Nagano -98). Together with 4 silver medals, he is the most succesful olympian ever.

Overall I think it was one of the better winter games. Good coverage and not a overwelming number of sob stories. Good events with lots of drama and action. I just wish the less popular events received more air time. I don't care if an American is in them I just want to see stuff I normally don't have a chance to.

I'm looking forward to Greece in 2004

To be fair, no one cared if there was an american in any of the events. The way the (american) producers dictated what was shown in other countries around the american participants was poor. As was the favouring of the american sportsmen (clean the track in the womens skeleton final? just before the two americans run...)

From Turambar:

You sound very sure about this matter. I went to www.olympics.com (http://www.olympics.com) and guess what - Norway still has "only" 11 gold medals. Not to mention the US-Americans rate the countries by total medals - Norway would have to get 13(!!!) more medals to come colse to Germany :p

Taking medals away from a person in the olympics is no small matter so it isn't done in 5 minutes(lot's of politics and ****)

But to quote Bush "Make no mistake, the evildoers will get what is coming to them"(or something like that)

The IOC president has actually made an official statement that they will lose their medals.

It was a fun olympics. Watching in America can be frustrating (as noted above). It was nice to see some events that did not prominently feature American competitors. I hope they do more of this in the future.
