Elan Morin Tedronai Sat, 11th Oct '03, 1:05pm I fear that my tastes are a little bit classical and old... till now. From the 70s-middle 80s I like most of all Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Kinks, Rolling Stones, Simon and Garfunkel and so on... Beatles, Clash, Ten Years After, Wishbone Ash and Jethro Tull... From the 90s I am a huge fan of Radiohead, moderate fan of Oasis, Blur and Pulp the other big Three brit-pop bands... I also like quite a lot Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and nowadays Brien Ferry and David Byrne albums including also their earlier things with Roxy Music and Talking Heads... Pac man Sat, 11th Oct '03, 1:20pm U2, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, the Cure, stuff like that. I'm a sucker for the sound of the 80's. Loerand Sat, 11th Oct '03, 1:25pm Old Metallica(not that St. Anger ****), Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, WASP, Nightwish, Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom and Bloodhound Gang... rcoutme Sat, 11th Oct '03, 2:06pm I'm more of a traditionalist. Yerril Sat, 11th Oct '03, 7:58pm R.E.M., U2, The Rolling Stones, Feeder, The Divine Comedy. Dragonfly Sat, 11th Oct '03, 11:36pm Strange mix for me. I've loved Harry Belafonte since I was little as well as Cat Stevens. I don't admit to a lot of people that I also like Kid Rock. Celia Cruz is an amazing latina vocalist. I also enjoy Cafe Tacuba, El Tri, El General and Molotov which are some more latino bands. (Molotov rocks but its a little crude for some people)I also love Tom Waits, Sean Paul, and Bob Marley. Oaz Sun, 12th Oct '03, 4:45am The Backstreet Boys. (You have no idea how popular they are in China.) K9999 Sun, 12th Oct '03, 4:55am I just don't get why people hate St. Anger! Of course, the production's quite bad, but it's still (IMO) some way better than ...And Justice For All's production! Come on, you couldn't even hear Jason playing on AJFA! Of course I prefer Master Of Puppets to St. Anger, but I like it all the same. Anyway, enough of that ****, heres the bands I like (in no order): 1. Metallica 2. Marilyn Manson 3. KMFDM 4. MDFMK 5. Skinny Puppy 6. Slick Idiot 7. Merzbow 8. Bolt Thrower 9. Old Man's Child 10. Borknagar 11. Iron Maiden 12. Megadeth 13. Samael 14. Nile 15. Massive Attack 16. Sad Legend 17. Harkle Sun, 12th Oct '03, 5:53pm My list is very strange mix. I'm sure that I missed many, many good bands... Rammstein Nightwish Moonsorrow Children of Bodom Evanescence Linkin Park Seether Type O Negative Sonata Arctica Ozzy Osbourne Silverwolf86 Mon, 13th Oct '03, 2:33am Apparently I'm "unique" or at least on SP because no one else has suggested any of these: BNL (Barenaked Ladies to those of you who aren't huge fans) Moxy Fruvous (it's all about the lyrics) Dashboard Confessional John Mayer Enrique Iglesias Smash Mouth Bowling For Soup And then I also like some oldies: Billy Joel Queen Eagles And even some jazz like Dave Brubeck But mostly if you looked through my cd case you find (other than every BNL cd ever) lots and lots of soundtracks :) Everything from John Williams and broadways to the soundtrack from Shrek. Also between me and my sibs we probably have all of the Disney cds... and a fair amount of VeggieTales too. Yay for soundtracks! :D Heh Mon, 13th Oct '03, 5:55am dead composers: -WAGNER (my fav from all times). old bands: -Deep Purple (from their first albums - 'The book of Taliesyn', 'Deep Purple', 'Concerto for group and orchestra', 'Fireball', 'Machine Head' and from their new albums only 'Slaves and masters'). Anyway TBOT, DP and CFGAO are the best. -Yes (I like almost all of their albums). -Pink Floyd ('Piper at the gates of dawn', 'Ummagumma', 'A saurceful of secrets', 'Dark side of the moon' and some songs from 'More' - 'The nile song', 'Cirrus minor'). -Emerson, Lake and Palmer ('Emerson, Lake and Palmer', 'Trilogy', 'Tarkus', 'Brain salad surgery', 'Pictures at an exhibition', 'Works'). -Jethro Tull ('Thick as a brick' - especially). -Uriah Heep (probably all of their albums after lyrics and titles, but I've only listened to 'Demons and wizards'). -The Beatles (only 'Eleanor Rigby'). new bands: -Metallica (I hate 'St. Anger'. Anyway I like just a few songs from them, though they are copying 'Deep Purple' - see the 'Until it sleeps' video and the 'Deep Purple' album cover). -Radiohead ('Hail to the thief' and 'Kid A' are my favs). -Symphony X (I've listened only to 'The odyssey' and liked it). -Dream Theater. Reading this list makes me think I'm the only SP member who ISN"T a goth! I've never seen so many industrial and metal bands listed in one place. You all need a hug! ;) Live, Dido, Crystal Method, Oingo Boingo, old Dave Matthews Band, The Doors, Elton, Sinatra, Evanescence, John Mayer, Duran Duran, Oasis, Pearl Jam, STP, Zeppelin, Olive, 311...and that's just what I'm listening to regularly at work. Master of Nuhn Tue, 14th Oct '03, 3:59am Bands? Well, what would you call bands? Here are my bands: Zero 7 Massive Attack Olive Conjure One St.Germain Hooverphonic Morcheeba Micatone Lamb Tower of Power Radiohead The Cranberries The Doors Alan Parsons Project Supertramp The Police Simon and Garfunkel Dire Straits U2 Coldplay US3 New Cool Collective Mainly lounge, triphop, jazz, soul, funk, and some 80's rock. Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Tricky, B.B.King, James Brown, Lil Milton etc are no bands but they are just a few of who I'd like to mention. Sniper Tue, 14th Oct '03, 1:05pm Blink 182 The Offspring Trust Company Sum 41 Papa Roach Evanescence Queen Falstaff Tue, 14th Oct '03, 6:10pm My list would be four pages long, and I am too lazy to put it all down here. I have pretty eclectic tastes in music - everything from Gregorian Chant to Black Metal, from Hip-hop to Country/Western, from Jazz (true jazz, not just swing/big band) to Techno. Well, you get the picture. I can list my all-time favorite band, however: METALLICA (all Metallica - from their Demo to St Anger) Can't stand bubble-gum pop, though - boy bands and britney spears make me queasy, and slightly uneasy. Eze Tue, 14th Oct '03, 6:33pm YAY! I am not the only Rammstein fan here, who loves Rammstein and can spell the name. And I like St. Anger. Okay, some songs ain't that good, but St. Anger itself and songs 5, 9, 10 and 11 are just fine. Here goes: Rammstein Linkin Park Sum 41 Metallica Nirvana HIM Nickelback Offspring Bloodhound Gang Eminem (yes, I know, stop looking like that) [insert random list of good metal bands here] Late-Night Thinker Tue, 14th Oct '03, 6:44pm Violent Femmes They Might Be Giants Meatloaf Mighty Mighty Bosstones AFI Simon and Garfunkel The New Pornographers U2 The Clash Sonic Youth Switchblade Symphony ...and...college radio and oldies of all kinds fade Tue, 14th Oct '03, 7:53pm Lets see. . . Metallica Linkin Park Incubus Disturbed System of a Down A Perfect Circle Mudvayne Dave Matthews Band Phish Bella Fleck and the Flecktones Ben Folds Ben Folds Five Dirty Dozen Brass Band Miles Davis Aldazar Thu, 16th Oct '03, 3:23am Too many to name but here's a few Pearl Jam (early stuff moreso) Alice In Chains Metallica Rammstein (Only heard maybe half a dozen tracks tho) The Doors Guns N Roses (Pre Spaghetti Incident) Bon Jovi Creed Evanescence Crowded House Queen Hoodoo Gurus Hunters And Collectors Mental As Anything INXS Blue Brothers Band Blues Traveller Icehouse Jodeci Live Red Hot Chilli Peppers Slash's Snakepit (Only heard first album though) Izzy Stradlin and The Juju Hounds (Only heard one album) John Butler Trio That'll do for now Beren Thu, 16th Oct '03, 4:14am Guns' n' Roses, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, U2, Van Halen, Nickelback, Metallica. All I can think of for now. Mystra's Chosen Thu, 16th Oct '03, 5:18am Master of Nuhn, nice list! I love all the bands down to Morcheeba. You forgot (I think you'd like anyhow) A Forest Mighty Black, Thievery Corporation, Röyksopp, Red Snapper, Underground, Air, Télépopmusik, Herbalizer, and of course the almighty Kruder & Dorfmeister! I also like lots of underground punk, like Knucklehead (in Calgary) and The Unseen, and the UK Subs (although they're not too underground). Rancid is my fav band (and therefore Operation Ivy). I really like the Dead Kennedeys, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, Propagandhi (Canadian political band. Great name, eh?), Rage Against the Machine (though they're not punk) and the Casualties. All the punk is political (even Rancid and Lars to some extent). I really hate all the bands like Blink 182, Simple Plan, Not By Choice, etc. singing about how they ****ed a chick (in a parking lot) and why it rocked. If not that then they're complaining about how their parents don't understand why they drink and smoke all day and swear too much. I've got no problem if you like those bands. This isn't a personal attack or anything. I used to listen Blink all the time. Baldrak Thu, 16th Oct '03, 9:38am I'll not list every band I like, because that would take to much space and I can't remember every band I like right now... I'll list some I've listened to last week or so... - Neil Young (with or without Crazy Horse) - Blur - Gorillaz - Portishead - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Led Zeppelin - The Police - Gorillaz - Rammstein - The Expoited - Dick Dale & his Del-tones - Beastie Boys - AC/DC - Breeders - Radiohead and that was just last week... and some hiphop, but that's just not something fot a thread about bands... and Beethoven Apeman Thu, 16th Oct '03, 9:52am Heres my list: On top with a big star U2 Coldplay Racoon Creed R.E.M. K's Choice (one of the few GREAT things from belgium (just kiddin)) The verve 3 doors down Vertical Horizon Kane (almost forgot one of the best dutch bands) Blof (also dutch but they sing in dutch, really good) Mithrantir Thu, 16th Oct '03, 3:47pm My beloved groups and singers (in random order except from the number one and two) Pink Floyd Stone Roses Ian Brown Tool Perfect Cycle Jethro Tull Joy Division and their sequence New Order Mettalica Bob Marley Hendrix Doors Radiohead Charlatans Prodigy Chemical Brothers Big Bud And in general many groups and singer from 60's, 70's, 80's and some from the 90's Nocturnal Nomad Thu, 16th Oct '03, 6:45pm Well, I guess I could just copy Master of Nuhn's list. Add a pinch of weird synthesizer 80's stuff (don't ask me why) and a teaspoon of almost everything Mystra's Chosen added and you've got my list. Baezlebub Sun, 19th Oct '03, 12:45pm Well, spectacular. I get the feeling that Reorx (read a bit of Dragon Lance do we?) just wanted to write up their favourite bands. However, I did read through a couple of people and was surprised at the amount of people that claim to love Metallica old school. As long as we stand here and define old school as pre- Jason Newstead, I'm glad. However, if you refer to just their self titled album, please go back to your hole. /End Rant. Obvioulsy Metallica. Then: Mike Oldfield David Bowie The Beatles The Doors Jethro Tull Led Zepellin Pink Floyd Slayer <- Metallica with death lyrics Lou Reed The Who Jimi Hendrix Yeah Yeah Yeah's The Sleepy Jackson Black Rebel Motorcycle Club The Datsuns Aldazar Wed, 22nd Oct '03, 4:19am I forgot to add these to my list: TOFOG (No, not just because Russell is their vocalist, I liked them way before I knew that bit) Cherry Poppin' Daddies Reel Big Fish Mighty Mighty Bosstones TISM Again, that's it for now notforyou Sat, 25th Oct '03, 9:05am Pearl Jam, Beach Boys, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, RHCP, Doors, The Roots Tassadar Wed, 29th Oct '03, 12:07am favourite bands -> children of bodom opeth tool Sorvo Fri, 31st Oct '03, 12:11am Slayer, Overkill, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, Forbidden, Heathen, Death Angel, Exodus, Defiance... |
