The Soul Forever Seeking

Hmm. It seems that some film company is doing a remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Not exactly my kind of movie. The trailer for it was five minutes long, and indicated absolutely nothing like what I pictured when I thought of this movie before.
Unless this remake will be radically different, it seems it isn't just a slasher flick.
Nonetheless, I don't like scary movies.
But that's not what I'm posting about. Right before it actually said the name, it said "Inspired by true events".
My question is WHAT true events? The only thing I know about the first one is that the guy with the chainsaw was called "Leatherface". Were the true events just a gory mass murder, or was it something else?
