I'm talking about soft drinks. Being a Yankee originally from Chicago, I refer to it as pop. As in, "Hey, you want some pop?"
How do you say it?

I remember, when I was in the States visiting my sister, I had difficulty understanding what the heck did her ex-boyfriend's daughter mean when she wanted her "pop". I personally refer to soft drinks as soda, seeing as I find it more fitting to my style of speech :) (English is not my first language)

(THe loony you all know and love to hate)

Well, I usually refer to it as "drink" or the appropriate name specifically for that softdrink. Like Sinas, Cola, 7up, Cassis, Jus d'Orange and Applejuice. :)

Heeeeey! Biertje?

In the Netherlands (at least where I live) soft-drinks are called 'Fris' (fresh). This includes almost any non-alcoholic drink. If you want beer, however, you could simply reply with 'een fris biertje' (a fresh beer) :p

I roomed with a guy from the East coast of the US, and he always wanted to go for a "Soda".

Definitely soda here, but with the exception of some small-batch root beers I generally call it all "Yucky." ;)

Once again, I'm with you, Rallymama. I used to be a cook at Pizza Hut, and working in front of the oven was HOT! The only cold beverage was pop, and now I can't stand the stuff. Give me an orange juice or a grapfruit juice anytime.

I call it either pop or juice, depending how I feel :)

I live in Texas, and everything here is "coke." You can walk into almost any restauraunt here and order a "coke" and the waiter/waitress will then ask you "what kind?" THen you can specify what kind of coke, be it pepsi, dr pepper, mountain dew, coke, diet coke, and so on... You can tell what the big favorite is here!

I say soda, and then denote the specific type. It's worked for me up until now. (and I HATE the word pop. Don't know why, I just do.)

In the Southeast US, it's "Coke" no matter what type. Soda is sometimes used, but if you say pop, you're a Northerner... :D

Sody (pronounced "sew-dee"), sody pop, pop, coke.

I care not. I can adapt to all these. All of them are so common to me, I use different ones depending on the day or the part of the country I'm in.

If you're in Minnesota or Wisonsin, you use "pop". But down south, pretty much anything goes. The southern "hick" version is "sody pop".

"Yu wanna sody pop, Vern?"

Those good old boys from western, PA and Ohio like to use "pop" too ;) I say soda but I don't even drink the stuff anymore. Its harsher than beer!

As another Yankee from Chicago, I'm also a 'pop' drinker.
