Sir Belisarius Fri, 15th Nov '02, 3:38pm I couldn't vote...Blues and Alternative were not on your list! It was also missing Norwegian Shouting Choruses ;) :p
aegron Fri, 15th Nov '02, 3:51pm i voted rock as in the beatles, rolling stones led zeppelin pink floyd the doors jimi hendrix etc.
Jack Funk Fri, 15th Nov '02, 4:03pm I didn't vote. You can only pick one. Which to me is useless (you only like one kind of music?). Plus, YOU LEFT OFF FUNK! Unless the obnoxious "RnB and that kind of ****" was supposed to include it.
For the record, I like just about everything in the poll, with the exception of Techno and "Fake crap".
Falstaff Fri, 15th Nov '02, 5:23pm I voted metal, because that is first on my personal heirarchy of genres, but i find your poll to be a bit biased: "Fake Crap?" I mean, come on. You will do nothing but offend people with poll choices like that (including me)! And you did not include Country/Western music, among others.
Besides, most people like at least a few different kinds of music, if not a lot!
My list of fav music styles: Metal, Rock, "Classic" Rock, Punk, Jazz, Country/Western, Techno, Rap/H-H/R&B, Classical, Gregorian Chant, And many of the bands that you would include in "Fake Crap" that are actually New Wave Metal.
Errol Fri, 15th Nov '02, 6:47pm Hmph, i didn't vote.
Several reasons really:
1) No Funkrock, or Electro Funk/Pop/Rock.
Jack Funk i so agree with you.
2) All those things you've listed are stupid 'stereotypes'. How about Hard Rock, Rock, Old Rock, there's loads you've missed! Hip-Hop and Rap are different, even tough i listen to neither.
"R&B and that kinda ****", now you've got to ask yourself, are you seriously going to dance to Mettalica? Doubt it. I'm not a big fan of R&B, but it's good if you're in the right mood.
3) No Drum & Bass, Blues, Classical (all the different types) etc, you've only put 'classical'.
4) Now this annoys me:
How are Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and Avril Lavigne "Fake Crap"? I'm not saying i like either of those, but Avril has a great voice, with talent to back, Limp Bizkit have been going for a good time, and how are they 'fake'?
Linkin Park have achieved huge success through their debut album, and i can't see them being fake either.
BTW: Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park I would class as Rock/Pop/Hip-Hop, and Avril as Pop.
"Fake" is stuff like Tenacious D (where's the talent?), Steps/S-CLub 7/Westlife. Even boybands like N'Sync, backstreet boys and them have singing talent, even though they are manufactured etc.
- Finally, there is no Alternative. What about those really alt. bands out there?
Hmmm... think about your questions/choices next time, and even though you may only like one type of Stereotyped Music, doesn't mean everybody else does.
Goph
Just incase you were wondering; may fav' bands are Placebo, Basement Jaxx, RATM, amongst so many more.

Z-Layrex Fri, 15th Nov '02, 6:55pm No Drum & Bass, Blues, Classical (all the different types) etc, you've only put 'classical'.Agreed. I voted Classical, but I like modern classical music (especially from Japan).
Thorin Fri, 15th Nov '02, 7:14pm As everyone has said your are missing so many types of music, plus the poll is biased. So i did not vote.
You forgot so many types of music
House Scratch(aphex-twin) Industrial Gothic Trip-Hop rock-rap classic metal BaroqueI could go on but there is no point. The poll is skewered towards the rock side of music, and does not attempt on trying to find what kind of music people like best

the god Fri, 15th Nov '02, 7:27pm  avril lavigne, music irrelevant so voted for fake crap.
Morgoth Fri, 15th Nov '02, 8:54pm You forgot Groove MetaL!!
Master of Nuhn Fri, 15th Nov '02, 8:57pm For me:
Up-Tempo Jazz
Acid Jazz
'Chase Music'
Lounge
Trip-Hop
Drum&Bass
Goa-Trance
Since there was just one of them in the poll, I chose Jazz, and I seem to be the only (at least 1st) one.
Since there are almost as many music-genres as musicians, I understand it's very hard to name them all, but you could add some more, methinks. ;)
'You forgot Aiya Napa!'- Yes, of course! Because nobody has ever heared of it before!!

Jack Funk Fri, 15th Nov '02, 9:30pm Master of Nuhn,
Could you recommend some good Lounge? I don't know where to start.
Nutrimat Fri, 15th Nov '02, 9:35pm I didn't vote because you limited people to one choice and I listen to more than one style of music.
You also forgot Country (maybe different categories like old country and country rock), Folk, Jazz, and lots of others.
silent_elf Fri, 15th Nov '02, 10:10pm quote
I voted Classical, but I like modern classical music (especially from Japan).
that music is **** layrex, why do you listen to it, youve turned into a poof, you used to like metal and all that ****.why, youve broken my heart
Sniper Fri, 15th Nov '02, 11:26pm Am I the only punk rocker here? kewl!
Z-Layrex Sat, 16th Nov '02, 12:47am that music is **** layrex, why do you listen to it, youve turned into a poof, you used to like metal and all that ****.why, youve broken my heartI wouldn't use the term 'poof' if I were you Andy, you might just have insulted someone. I used to like rock, but now it's all turning into the same, boring, cliche songs about love this and fighting that. Pure drivel most of it. It's bands like U2 and Red Hot chili Peppers that are keeping it alive. With crap like 'Busted' coming out who would want to be a part of it? I'll take Rikku over some long haired maniac screaming F*ck down a microphone anyday thank you very much. I get called a 'poof' alot during the day because of my hobbies, i'd rather not have one of my so called 'best friends' call me it too.
Now I sugest you change your post before a mod sees it.
SC Sat, 16th Nov '02, 12:54am I refused to vote too. How come it's impossible to vote classical, R&B, rap, hip hop, rock, (alternative), metal, pop, and "fake stuff".
joacqin Sat, 16th Nov '02, 1:04am Hmm I actually find Tenascious D quite funny and amusing, he also manages to write catch tunes, no great music but if I zap to mtv and he is on he is one of the few I stop for.
Mostly I listen to music that wasnt either on your list and that sadly hasnt been mentioned by anyone! Old fashioned singer/songwriters like Bob Dylan, Bruce Cockburn and some swedes who are great for example Björn Afzelius, Mikael Wihe and Ulf Lundell.
Z-Layrex Sat, 16th Nov '02, 1:09am Yeah, they were interviewed by Jonathon Ross on TV the other day, (UK). They're both very funny guys.
Saruman Sat, 16th Nov '02, 9:05am There are only the main genres (house/drum'n'bass are electronic).
I really forgot funk and alternative, but blues is something like jazz, I think (tell me if I am wrong, I never listen to that kind of music).
About the "fake crap":
I think that these bands are fake, because they want to be something that they are not (Avril-alternative skateboarding punk-rocker/Linkin park-tough metal guy...) and I hate Limp Bizkit. That is because they had an audition for a new guitar player and millions of young people went to try and they had to sign a contract that their riffs are now the property of limp bizkit and they can do whatever they want with them. And the band didn't pick anyone then! They just used them to get their riffs :grr:
And all this "fake bands" have lyrics, which my 7-year old cousin could write. For example:
I'm with the skater boy
I said see you later boy
I'll be back stage after the show
I'll be at the studio
Singing the song we wrote
About a girl you used to know
or
do you know where you are
welcome to the jungle punk
take a look around it’s limp bizkit
****in' up your town
That only makes me laugh
Morgoth Sat, 16th Nov '02, 1:04pm @Sniper, no youre not the only Punk Rocker :)
@Saruman, In the old days (4 years ago, heh) Limp was THE band, now they sux, but there first album still rules .......POLUTION!!!!

\,,/
*growls*
:p
Viking Sat, 16th Nov '02, 2:03pm If by 'alternative' you guys mean indipendent or 'indi', I'm with you, otherwise another category missed off.
Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics etc, you know what I mean.
Errol Sat, 16th Nov '02, 4:47pm Hmm... Punk Rock/Classic!
(Stranglers anybody? :) )
Oh, Saruman, if I may comment on your post above:
There are only the main genres (house/drum'n'bass are electronic).
I really forgot funk and alternative, but blues is something like jazz, I think (tell me if I am wrong, I never listen to that kind of music). And may I ask how the hell you know that?! Drum&Bass/House is not the same as electronic, which any fan of that genre could tell you.
About the "fake crap":
I think that these bands are fake, because they want to be something that they are not (Avril-alternative skateboarding punk-rocker/Linkin park-tough metal guy...) and I hate Limp Bizkit. Since when was Linkin Park trying to be tough metal guys? Like, never! I wouldn't say Avril was trying to be a Punk Rocker, and i'd say she was a skateboarder, or at least into it.
What makes you the judge on what people want to be? For all you know she could be the biggest Slipknot fan in the world!
And all this "fake bands" have lyrics, which my 7-year old cousin could write. Ok; so you're saying Metal bands' lyrics are hard to write? I'm sure I could put together a decent metal song by shouting "F*ck F*ck Sh*t Sh*t" down a mike as loud as possible.
Hmmm.. you should stop stereotyping music by what image they put across, just because some groups sings one way doesn't mean they are all the same.
Goph
(take it to PM if you want to discuss more,i will gladly, but not at the expense of the topic)

Saruman Sat, 16th Nov '02, 7:29pm And may I ask how the hell you know that?! Drum&Bass/House is not the same as electronic, which any fan of that genre could tell you.
Then I, like a metal fan, could add Epic metal, Black metal, Death metal, Power metal. It's the same difference like D'n'B/House/Trance. For example, try to listen to Blind Guardian/Hammerfall/Children Of Bodom/Cryptopsy. They have all very little in common.
What makes you the judge on what people want to be? That's how they act (I do not know how she acts at home, but I've seen it in public).
Ok; so you're saying Metal bands' lyrics are hard to write? I'm sure I could put together a decent metal song by shouting "F*ck F*ck Sh*t Sh*t" down a mike as loud as possible.
Hmmmm...Limp Bizkit really have lyrics like that, but they aren't metal. Don't talk about metal lyrics if you don't know'em.
example:
Hammerfall-The dragon lies bleeding
Ride through the valley in thunder and rain
The battle is raging, redeem this domain
The castle of Eden lies silent above
Darkness surrounds us, away we must go
I look through the eyes of the world
I see there's a stranger among us
Awaiting a sign from above
To conquer the power and the glory
Enter the battle, our will to enchain
bringing us forward, defeating the pain
Into the meeting with swords made of steel
We're standing together, the secret reveals
I look through the eyes of the world
I know who's the stranger among us
Awaiting a sign from above to conquer
Tthe power and the glory
Come across to the promised land
Close your eyes I will take your hand
Through the river of steel we'll go
When the dragon lies bleeding
Above the glory we'll carry on
Now the time has come to return back home
The setting sun illuminates the dead
On the battlefield it's shining red
Silent lies Eden on top of the moor
We're fighting with honor protecting our Lord
The last one survivor lies bleeding, I kneel
Into his heart I settle the steel...
or
Nightwish-Sleepwalker
Close your eyes
Feel the ocean where passion lies
Silently the senses
Abandon all defences
A place between sleep and awake
End of innocence, unending masquerade
That's where I'll wait for you
Hold me near you
So close I sear you
Seeing, believing
Dreaming, decieving
A place between sleep and awake
End of innocence, unending masquerade
That's where I'll wait for you
Sleepwalker seducing me
I dare to enter your ecstacy
Lay yourself now down to sleep
In my dreams you're mine to keep
(Sleepwalk with me...)
Sleepwalker seducing me...
i avloppet rann hans liv sakta ned
men ingen förklaring varför hon självmord begick
-Senap - Liv

Taluntain Sun, 17th Nov '02, 11:08am No one is to post any more lyrics in this topic. Especially not non-English ones. Link to them somewhere if you have to.
Master of Nuhn Sun, 17th Nov '02, 12:13pm Well well!
I just wanted to start a topic 'bout our favorite lyrics. All English, less then 35 words.
;)
Farthy Sun, 17th Nov '02, 12:25pm YOU FORGOT MOVIE MUSIC!!!
Movie music is undeniably my favorite type, and possibly video/computer game music.
What would that go under?!?!
However, movie music most closely matches music from the Romantic and Impressionist periods, so I had to go with classical, although I hardly enjoy classical.
William Smit IV Mon, 18th Nov '02, 3:19am DUDES! DISCO!! ABBA!!! *boogies to Dancing Queen*
And, of course, my favorite song of all time is located here:

The Irreligious Paladin Mon, 18th Nov '02, 5:17am I voted "Rock" since you didn't have a classic rock choice. I listen to lots of stuff but by far my favorite is the Doors, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Floyd, CCR, Kansas.
My brother recently introduced me to a non-american english-speaking band (not sure what country) called Blind Garden. The album he showed me is basically thrash or death metal blended with classical scoring and the whole thing follows the story of The Lord of the Rings. Not only was the concept awe-inspiring, but the songs were good too!
Eilonwy Mon, 18th Nov '02, 2:10pm I voted Metal but just becuase I felt like I liked it the most today.
I listen to rock/metal/punk aso..
and a bit blues sometimes since my father is all crazy about it.
Saruman Mon, 18th Nov '02, 4:03pm The irreligious paladin:
You meant BLIND GUARDIAN (epic metal band). They are really good, if you like them, you should try Rhapsody, they are great, too.
Sniper Mon, 18th Nov '02, 6:52pm Why doesn't someone set up an 'improved' music poll?
Dhirngulin Mon, 18th Nov '02, 7:06pm You missed out on tons so theres no point posting what you missed but i'd have to say:
Mainly Alternative rubbish such as:
KoRn
A Perfect Circle
KoRn
More KoRn
Even More KoRn
doors
Jimi Hendrix (yay!)
Tom Waits
Orgy
SlipKnot
Deftones
Blur
