I have the standard Windows Movie Maker installed on my computer. I am using it to create a slideshow type movie using pictures from vacations. WMM saves a finished project as a *.wmv (Windows Media Video) file. All I have is a cd-rw drive.
There are programs that can copy a dvd onto a cd-rw disk, they sell these at places like Best Buy for backing up DVD collections, and they will be able to play on your dvd player. But is there a program that can take a .wmv file and burn it to a cd-rw that can play in the dvd player?

I'm not sure about what type of software you'll need specifically to make it dvd format, but depending upon your dvd player you may be able to play it as is; but to do this you really need a cheap dvd player (like me ;) ) the expensive ones seem to only play dvd's and nothing else, while the others will play almost anything, go figure

As far as I know, can you figure out a way to convert a wmv to either avi or mpeg. Then Nero Burning Rom (shareware) got a SVCD plugin that can convert avi and mpeg files to SVCD so you can watch it on most DVD Players.

Oh ouch.

1. .wmv is an "end-user" format.

2. It's just plain ole MPEG4, with a "streaming" function added to it, just like .asf. But everyone has to pay cash-money to msft to even play it, much less work with it.

3. Yep. Any player that will play Divx is usually setup to play .wmv as well. My Liton player will hammer it.

4. www.dvdrhelp.com (http://www.dvdrhelp.com)

5. You can make a Picture Slideshow, as well. Kodak Photodisc, or something. I've never made one, but just about any player sold nowadays will show them.

6. If you're looking for utmost compatibility, I would have make it into a MJPEG first, then used Tmpgenc to port it to Mpeg-2, and load that into Movie Factory 2.0 or something for muxing with some AC3 (or Layre-2) audio stream.
