So, does anyone watch and like the X-Files?

I don't watch it on a regular basis, and every since I moved to MD, I couldn't get it, and it's on too late for me to watch it. :rolleyes:

However, the shows that I HAVE watched I think are great. I also keep track of the shows at thex-files.com

Any X-files fans out there?

Well it was originally filmed where i live, but david ducovney(sp?) is a wimp and cant handle the rain so they moved it back to california. I really liked it better when it was filmed locally and was alot less Hollywood.

The story lines have gotten a little far fetched for me. Now The Outer Limits which is still filmed here in Vancouver (and rents elevator parts from me work :) is a much better production.

I'm an X-Files fan. I love the tributes to the old horror movies. The black and white episode. That was funny. I also prefer David Duchovny to the new guy, whatever his name is. :alien:

I remember watching that when i was only 10 or something like that ... it scared the **** out of me so i havn't watched it since ...

I hate it.

Thank you, but I'll stick with Xena - at least I laugh. Besides that, Xena doesn't pretend she's some kickass thing.

Yep I am a fan of the x-files. I like it and all the way that not every show deals with alins(though lately it has). I watch it every sunday that I can catch it. I use to watch the re-runs late night sat. at 2 in the moring. But now that the time has changed its on at 3 and i cant make it that late:( Owell I like it enough to be called a fan but not enough to follow it show by show.

I used to watch it sometimes. The serie just stopped in Holland at one time and when the continued I didn't watch it anymore. My favorite episode was with that vampier community, Mulder and Scully told the story afterwards, but the both told their own view on things. I didn't like most of the other episodes very much.

I liked the older Files lots, but then the "unbelievable" in the series became too casual, and the interest faded. Also, the episode where Sculder & Mully hunted the blobby white thing in the sewers (did the soviet ship bring it in?) was shot on a water processing plant 12 miles away from me, heh

I liked the older parts, but the movie sucks! It's so boooring...

Guess more people here like fantasy as opposed to something like the X-Files. :whoa:
I guess Kitara's happy that Mulder is no longer in the X-files, but Dogget and Reyes take his place.

I don't think that there is a great difference between fantasy and things like X-files (maybe you can call it sci-fi). Take Star Wars for example: is it a sci-fi, or a fantasy?

I would always classify Star Wars as Science Fiction. My dictionary classifies Science Fiction as: "Fiction based on imagined future scientific or technological advances etc." I think travlling in space, amongst other things certainly qualifies as this.

However, it is possible to count as more than one genre, and I think in the case of Star Wars, it could certainly be called fantasy as well. There is a close connection between these two genres, as anything that is Science Fiction, probably can also be called fantasy.

Oddly enough, "Xena" was on tonights episode. I personally believe Robert Patrick is much mpore believable as an FBI angent than some silly man like Mulder. I mean how long would a guy like that stay in the FBI????

I've never been a fan. I liked the Night Stalker (70's) better. You can see the influence this show had on the X-Files (except for the alien stuff).

X-Files and Star Wars are NOT science fiction. There is no link from current science to either of these universes (or projection from current science to either of these).

Calling "Star Wars" science fiction is especially curious. The spacecraft make noise in space. This is science?

Eh, all of the spaceships in all shows do. It'd be just too weird if they didn't. Everyone expects them to, so muting all sound when showing a spaceship from outside would be a really bad idea.

I understand the motivation. It's just not science. If you watch "2001: A Space Odyssey" you will notice that the ship doesn't make noise (when viewed from the outside).

Calling "Star Wars" science fiction is like calling the "Jetsons" science fiction. Just because something is set in space doesn't make it sci-fi.

Well aside from 2001 I can't think of any sci-fi movies/shows that would accurately do this bit. Even in the latest Trek shows you hear warp engines powering up and so on. But hey - you can imagine the sound is being recorded in the engine room or something. :p

Hey Tal, aren't you a fan of Babylon 5? IIRC (and it has been a while) they had no sounds in space in that show, but it wasn't as obvious as in 2001 because they always had background music for everything like the jump gates and the space battles etc. 2001 just has complete silence which was rather eerie and so very obvious.

Hm yea. Actually all shots of the Babylon 5 station *were* silent, but then again it was an object in space that didn't usually move or do anything else, so that was logical. (Except for that rotating bith which generated gravitation I think.) There was sound for everything from from jumpgates to laser fire, shock cannons etc.

I'd like to say that X-F is Sci-fi to a little extent. Sure, there aren't spaceships any monsters from Mars, but there are UFOs, and aliens. On technology, there's nanotechnology (building with atoms), time travel :D, sentient computers, genetic mutants, and a lot other wierd stuff.
