According to this news article (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_852745.html) it seems I have a healthy habit by drinking litres of coffee...

Compared to non-coffee drinkers, men who drank more than six eight-ounce cups of caffeinated coffee per day lowered their risk of type two diabetes by about half, and women reduced their risk by nearly 30%, according to the study in the Annals of Internal Medicine. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

I hate to spoil this, but I once red that there are over 1000 naturally occurring chemicals in coffee, 22 of these have been tested and 17 were found to be carcinogenic!

Coffee is bad:

- It makes your teeth yellow.
- It makes your stomach moan.
- It makes your breath smell.
- It can make you hyper-active. ;)

I think that the reason coffee is found good has nothing to do with what's in the coffee but because of the drinking habbits of the coffeedrinkers. While they're drinking coffee, they don't drink anything else that is bad for diabetes.

@Virne
It can make you hyper-active. Isn't this exactly the reason to drink alot of coffee? :p :D

At least 4 to 6 cups a day here, no problems with stomach moaning or breath smelling but as Meatdog said, hyperactivity is just the right reason to drink the stuff. Also, for me, it helps me get to sleep at night for some strange reason. Gets me going durnig the day but gets me to slep at night. Maybe I'm just more weird than I thought.

Aldazar, I have found that coffee makes me sleepy at night too for some strange reason but it sure gives me that boost in the morning and afternoon when I need it.

Another coffee topic?

It is bad stuff, like heroin.

Drink TEA TEA TEA!!

My Dad has been drinking half dozen cups a day, and I mean BIG cups since he was 20 or so and it destroyed his life.... seriously, there was this one time he was arrested for stealing cookies from a Girl Scout just so he could dip them in his moca. Would a tea drinker do that I ask you? nay!

Lowered your type II diabetes?

Well, maybe. Because you sure as heck are building up any in your blood stream. Makes your liver work harder to replenish the glycogen, though.

The French roast joke was funny. I like the vanilla French roast. God, it makes my whole place smell absolutely wonderful. I usually put some in when I have guests. :)

Also, chocolate covered coffee beans == Life.

Topic: Coffee is good! How long did it take you to work that out? just curious that's all :)

I think the part about stunting your growth might be true I only started before turning 17 and I'm a bit over 6.4 ft whereas other guys I've known started before 10 and none of them got taller then 5.7 ft

Tea! Tea is pure ambrosia!*

Coffee is vile. Makes your breath smell, your teeth yellow and gives you headaches.

Drink tea!... Saying that, on a recent visit to America, i found the tea there to taste like something along the lines of sheep piss**.

*That would be the drink of the Gods. Not the cream that goes well with sponge pie

**I would like to add, that I have never actually tasted sheep piss.

Coffee should be black as hell, strong as death, and as sweet as love.
--Turkish proverb I love that quote!

You know Morsmordre, you are the reason that Coffee is so popular in America From: EnglandI'm reading a biography of John Adams and it mentioned that when the British and Americans (Colonialists) began to part ways, a sign of a "true patriot" was to drink coffee instead of tea.

One more good coffee quote ..

I put instant coffee in a microwave and almost went back in time.

An excerpt from number 80 on Discover Magazine's top 100 science stories of 2003, "Tea Jump-Starts Immune System":

A group of healthy volunteers put away five to six cups of Lipton tea every day for two to four weeks, and a control group drank comparable quantities of coffee. In the tea drinkers' immune systems, gamma delta T cells produced five times more infection-fighting interferon when exposed to disease causing bacteria than did the T cells of the coffee drinkers.

Apparently one of the Popes was offered Coffee and he declared it the drink of the Infidels (Turkish Muslims). After he tasted it he declared it suitable for all believers (European Christians)...

One really nice coffee if you ever get the chance to try it is Cardomon Coffee. It is originally from Kuwait and other Gulf States. Try it since it is not all coffee bean.

My sister has a fridge magnet that states "No coffee, no workee"...

Coffee with cardamon is awesome. Beware, though, it's a strong aphrodisiac. Especially if you take four

Well, no, in fact I pay attention not to have dates or any meetings with females on days when I feel like drinking lots of spiced coffee. Especially because cloves and some other herbs in it are also aphrodisiacs. If you get four or five, you could even start to love your lawfully wedded spouse ;)

I drink coffee from Guatamala -- it's dark and rich with a strong bite, to which I add copious amounts of sugar and a spoonful of amaretto creamer. Mmmm...such a nectar to tantalize the palate!

(It's also a sure-fire sleep potion for me at night as well.)

Coffe puts you to sleep? Does it like not have any caffine in it or something?

chevalier
Tue, 13th Jan '04, 3:08am
Depends, sometimes human organism works in strange ways. Inputting caffeine suggests a need for it other than addiction, I think ;)

I've managed to fall asleep after 13 coffees, sitting in an unstable chair & people tripping all around, next to a roaring loudspeaker during my prom counterpart. I wasn't drunk.

Jaguar -- When I drink it at night it makes me sleepy (and yes it is caffeinated). In the morning it has the opposite effect, which leads me to believe that perhaps it has to do with a saturation point. By the end of the day, I have significant amounts in my bloodstream already (though 2-3 cups is about my limit for the day)...any more added justs tops it off. And once the body gets used to those levels, that additional amount just doesn't have the oompf to overide general bed-time fatigue. That's my best guess, but who knows. I definitely get quite a different reaction from a cup in the morning, when my caffeine level is non-existent -- thank god! :D

Interesting theory Spellbound. I was thinking that maybe the sleepiness that some people experience is due to a negative reaction to one of the many other chemicals that is in coffee.

Coffe dont make me sleepy, not more awake either though. But I think it´s like with most other things - You get used to them. First cigarette I had felt in my throat, now they dont. Get the picture?

From today's paper, there's a restaurant in Seattle that serving the Seattle Signature steak: a filet mignon dusted with Starbuck's dark espresso roast. Apparently it's a huge hit - a third of the menu sold on its first night.

Spelly, go to Rippe's and drop the $29 and report back, okay? ;)

Spellbound

Funny... that was just covered on the news last night. But $29 for a coffee steak?!? I'd rather experiment at home first! I didn't see the news blurb on this, so I'm wondering how they got the idea to sprinkle coffee on steak -- oh wait...it's Seattle! :shake:

Coffee on steak?? Gotta try that. Coffee sprinkled over Ice-cream is good too, as well as in sauces, stews, whatever.
