Nope, it's two thousand and two! Modern time counting begins with year one, meaning that there has never been a year zero, and so it is only two thousand and two years since christ.

What Shura said - this is the first time I ever got in early here...having a real good week now.

Was average - I got a call for my second job interview in the past week (actually my second in about 7 years) and I thought that was great until now.

This just caps it all off.

Next time I say "What could go wrong?" Eze, PLEASE kill me.

GOt my wallet snatchd, my train ticket, passport and whatnot included. Although I HAD spent all my cash :D

On the good side, however, got myself a nice box with PST, BG and Fallout 2. Go me! Being torn between playings....

Went to see Kill Bill, too. Now why was I thinking of Shura during the entire movie? :D

Grovflab

Ara, sad thing about your wallet. It's just about the worst thing to lose. Men should never wear their wallets in the back pocket. It's just too easy to take that way.

Oh well, today: "Kill Bill"
Tomorrow: "Max Payne 2"
The day after tomorrow: "Does it really matter?"

Arabwel
Tue, 28th Oct '03, 11:54am
This one was pickpocketed by some guy who came hitting on me... I told him to "sod off" and turned pointedly away,a t which point he apparently managed to snatch it from the pocket of my coat. :/

Thankfully, the entire wallet is useless... my ATM card's pin isn't there, and even if he gussed my account deosn't have enough money for a withdrawal. My passpor will become invalid in less than three months, and there was less than 50 cents' worth of cash. Ha, ha, HA! sarcasm*

But it DID prove that I should never say "What could go wrong?" Sure,t he ship did npot sink, but...

Also, acquired a new favourite drink: Strawberry Daiquiri :D

The National Novel Writing Month. Starts October 1st, ends October 30th. In the mean time, the participants try to chuck out 50.000 words, i.e. a novel.

See the panic? I have only the most vaguest of ideas for mine... 'tis supposed to be a historical tale of my own world, historical in the sense that it's set a few thousand years prior to the "main" storyline... Sort of like, say, the story of Turin Turambar in Tolkien's writings. (And yes, equally strange/Morbid at points...)

Ok. Good luck with the writing then. Kind of reminds me of the school essays though, just on a much grander scale. My main trouble was getting started, but as soon as I was over that stadium, everything went fine. The story usaully came to me during the writing, and all the endings involved a sudden and violent death to the main character as I got tired of writing... :) Strangely enough, my teacher still liked them though... Hmmm, maybe I should get my act together and write something for Creativity surge...

Oh, and remember, writing in 1st person saves you from having to care about a multi-thread story! Atleast, thats the approach I would use the first time I was going to write a novel.... :)

My wife is driving me crazy -- WHAT DOES SHE WANT? She says she wants a divorce. So after deep thought, I say, "if you absolutely, totally, and completely see no hope, then fine, lets just do it now, why wait a year?" She flips on me! Gets angry for me trying to give her what she wants! I also inform her that I have commenced flirting with several girls online (she has a boyfriend with whom she spends tons of time) and she gets all ticked at me! WTF? I was going to go to Wyoming to meet one of the girls, and now I'm not sure if I should go.

Life would be so much easier with a few BG2 items.

DePaara... It's called 'Kali rule' here. It was like 'Kali steal someone cow good, someone steal Kali cow bad'. Basically, she's allowed to have a boyfriend, but you aren't allowed to have a girlfriend. Of course, she there's nothing illogical in this for her. Same is about divorce after a year or now. Does she really want it? I doubt. Personally, I believe she'd rather stay married and having a boyfriend. Harsh words on my part, probably I'm being bitter, but I believed I have some right here. I've seen people through similar fortune. Maybe she wants you to fight? Maybe she really thinks she deserves more rights than you. Maybe she doesn't even think. Or maybe she just wants her part of fun in life. Heh, she's being very inconsequent, and for some time she's been so. About the girls... you'll do what you feel is right, I know this. I hope you won't do anything you would later regret doing. I'll pray for you in a while, as I'm going to sleep soon. Have a good day... maybe something good will happen.

The only reference to jesus in Roman historical texts is as far as I know....none. I think its Tacitus or Sutonius (sp? its late) that makes one reference to a group called the 'cristan's' (I know that spelling is wrong) in stiring trouble in Rome itself, but apart from that there is nothing contemporary with jesus (a very common name at the time) stating he was 'son of god' or even existed. It is most likely that a preacher named jesus existed however and that his message is 'somewhat' left intact within the bible.

Ahh yes LKD, had that myself early on. When my ex left, she had a guy pretty soon after but as soon as I had a new girl, she'd be all up in my face about it claiming I didn't love my son!

Women.

Anyway, funniest thing happened couple days ago, I was walking into town wearing my black greatcost (reportedly it's ex-German Military, not proper buttons though so I can't tell for sure, though there IS a lighter-coloured band around the wrist of it) and some joker leaned out his car window and yelled out "Matrix!". What a joker, the actual inspiration for me to wear it came from The Crow! Some people know nothing

This is way too single topic for random babbling...

Anyhow, it is mentioned in some text that my RE teacher keeps quoting. Some Jewish historian wrote something involving him, saying that he was a man who gained a lot of followers and was crucified, or something in that effect.

Rotku
Wed, 29th Oct '03, 7:54am
RE teacher? What's RE?

Manus
Wed, 29th Oct '03, 8:16am
I belive there was a book called "Jesus the Man" (I haven't read it) written about this, and trying to piece together the acccount from historical writings, and the dead sea scrolls (or is it red sea? I can't remember which scrolls it was), without dogmatic religious input, and then trying to get back to what the biblical accounts originally said, and what they meant by that, before the errors in translation and common misinterpretation.

There is a great deal of information out there about the subject.

I don't doubt the man existed, I see him along the same lines as I would Gautama.

I think he is reffered to as the son of god for four reasons; There was a position he held as a spiritual leader with a name to this effect; He reffered to God as father or The Father; He claimed we all had the potential for divinity, and are all of the gods; He was very wise and also advanced, powers like those spoken of held by him are rare but not otherwise unknown. It was enough for him to gain sufficient prestiege however.

Plus my grandmother says she remembers seeing him, so that's enough for me. ;)

Edit: @Rotku RE I think means Religious Education, it is a compulsory subject in many private schools I think. That has to be one of the only things going for the public education system. ;)

@ Eze and Ara: I wasn't originally going to do it but then I had some friends who aren't even really into writing who decided THEY were going to do it so now I have to. :) That and last night when I was trying to sleep I got this GREAT idea for a children's story. See my problem isn't lack of creativity, I can think think up like 90 ideas within the span of a week. The problem I have is actually focusing on the writing part, I'm too likely to get distracted by an R.A. Salvatore book or Baldur's Gate. That and Murder She Wrote hehe. How DOES she solve all those mysteries? ;) So I figure this'll be good for me; actually forcing myself to write and not just staring at my keyboard until I hate it. Anyways you guys totally have to post your stories in Creativity Surge as well. That way I won't feel too bad when my stuff is all. . . really really bad. ;) As for getting ideas, piece together bits of everything. Go with the elves idea and then add strange plot twists. Anything really. Like if you start off with two elves, have them out hunting (or something) and then one disappears and the other has to find out what happened and he can stumble upon ALL sorts of evil plots. Once you get started there's thousands of directions to go. And I know you guys can do it. Trust me, if people who've never done any creative writing before can do, you definitely can. :D

On a different note I get to go see a psychiatrist today.... YAY! *cough sarcasm* But at least I get to go on anti-anxiety meds. No more writing freak-outs for me! Well except the usual ones.

Oh, I'd also like to say that Model U.N. SUCKS. Because now we are down to two color guard members this weekend and besides that it's Halloween so all the U.N. people who had to go to the debate will be missing the candy and party we were gonna have. It's very sad. :(

Today is going to be quite a pleasant day, if compared to yesterday. For reasons pertaining to foreknowledge of doctor M's weekly lecture on constitutional law, I had to drug myself up with caffeine so much that I became capable of platonic feelings and friendship with women. I could barely hear, such was the 'sea' in my ears, but I was still drowsy enough almost to fall off my feet. Well, but I didn't fall asleep. That's the good thing. Four boring lectures and I didn't fall asleep. I don't remember when I had last achieved that before yesterday :D :p

Coffeey! :coffee: :coffee:

Only have had one today. Need more. In an hour, I'll have to leave my cave for a class in legal English and then have to go sign up for dancing course.

Eze has been banned until further notice, and all topics in this thread commenting on her obscenities have been deleted. The banned subject falls under the category of "obscene", which is against the forum rules. Eze has been warned about it repeatedly, and yet she obviously thinks she can get away with it. Not any more. And same goes for you Shura, if I see anything of the like in your posts, you'll suffer the same fate. The forum rules are clear. I don't want to see even a passing mention of this anywhere on the boards again. You can PM or mail me if you have questions, but that's it.

Well, on my walk back from college, walking in the dark, I heard a strange, kinda dragging noise. Investigating closer, I found a tiny rabbit by the side of the road. I couldn't see it very well, but I could make out that it's back legs had been completely crushed by a car. The poor little thing was literally dragging itself along the side of the road with its forelegs, dragging its destroyed hindlegs behind it. I didn't know what to do, but I tried to reach down and move it into the grass, but it shrank away from me. In the end I decided that all I could do was leave and hope that it wasn't in too much pain, or that (this sounds awful) another car would finish it off. Simply out of mercy, it would have been for the best, but I had no means of doing it. I had to walk away leaving this tiny little figure behind me. It was a very traumatising experience for a small animal lover like myself.

Things I did today:

Woke up at 0900, but decided to sleep a little longer, and then suddenly it was noon. Stays in bed for a couple of hours, finishing Mark of Damnation from Black Library and watching the first American Pie movie. Play a little NWN before going to the gym and exercising for about an hour. Go home and eat, before going to a lokal cafe to play some pool with one of my friends. That lasts about an hour, and then I'm back home in front of the computer, just passing time before going to bed.

Yup, just another exiting day in my life! :)

But seriously folks, I'm having an idiot-day today

Manus
Wed, 5th Nov '03, 3:23am
Well Shura, I don't know if this will hope but perhaps you can direct this through will-power, and as you have spoken elsewhere, the strength in your arm, the keenness of your intellect, that with strong focus upon something, and the mental and physical faculty to carry it through, that great deeds can be achieved.

Or you can turn it around, and say it is only ignorance that gets things accomplished- for if one does not know they should not be able to do something, and the dangers involved, what is to stop them doing it?

I usually confuse Homer's Sagas with each other, so am having trouble remembering details- any number of things can be a cause for tenacity, but which of these is heroic?

Shura
Wed, 5th Nov '03, 3:32am
Heh. I'll get the essay done, never fear. I'm already a quarter way through and it isn't due until 3 weeks later.

Hacken Slash
Wed, 5th Nov '03, 3:38am
You might try this approach...once I had to write an essay on the bravery of the protangonist in Melville's "Moby Dick". I launched into a bitingly satirical diatribe about how the only bravery shown was mine...as a reader of such a dated, dry, pointless work of overstuffed fiction. I went on for about 3000 words! I got an "A" if I remember, but then again I also had some "pictures" of the prof.

You wish. I can't type, ama school, my classmates tell me to type more quietly.

Spamming at the NaNo forum as well. Go me!

Gah, I am so tired I can't ype properly becuause my hands act like aline organisma. Sort of like, say, blur and haste on them. So very, very weird.

Also, have forgotten to tell yyou thin... the other day, somethin happened that was SO like a bug in a game that can be exploited...

I used my mobile phone to pay for a coke from a machine. Wellm there was no coke left so I got "sold out" and the amount I had paid dropped to the bottom of the return money thing...except that I had not put any money in.

So, not exploiting it like the evil person I am, I just pressed the buttonss until I DID get a soda... but I also got change for four bottles before that.

So buggy.

The best part? My mom pays my phone bill :D

Women are very confusing -- I'm in the basement now, "separate suites" she says, "separate lives" and she has no problem having her boyfriend over. yet this morning she knocks, I saw come in, and she lies down beside me and wraps my arms around her body.

WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS WOMAN WANT??

I am so messed up right now it's not even funny. While I am not suicidal, I long for death.

Be careful, man...If you are going through divorce proceedings, she can say you condoned her actions by reconiciliating from time to time. If she wants things separate, keep them separate. Just a little free legal advice...

And yes, women are confusing...And they drive me nuts...But they are just so damn curvy and sexy...

Edit (to avoid confusion): the following was to sir Belly:

At least she doesn't work or attend classes with you ;)

I'm beginning to believe I'm really uber. A Superman. I can sleep 3/24 per weekday and 6/24 per weekend day and hold abysmal quantities of coffee. Isn't my CON 14 or something?

Went to a lecture on historical grammar of Greek at Classics Department. Again. How nice. Almost like in my old school.

Signed up for a dancing course. Mostly Latino, but also some real classics. A necessary refreshment, and a handy one.

DePaara..., OK, I know - I'm young and don't know a **** about long-terms from own experience, so this is only theory, but still: you shouldn't let her. Marriage is not about comparing the studs and making sure you've chosen the better one. It's monogamy and it's either way. Lawfully wedded spouse is not just one of the many, period. The first question that actually stroke my mind was what she was doing that for if she wanted to leave you. Whatever the motives, they're hardly altruistic.

Well, I'm biased. My words may be too harsh. Anyway, I'm trying my best.

Not gonna spoil any of you, but I DO havea little tidbitt that I want to share... it was kind of scary, when at one point involving quite a lot of sghooting, I had my hands periodically tremble due to exhaustion, and, well.... it was kind of weird.

I for one am quite content to miss out on the mass hysteria of the Matrix. To be honest, the whole thing just didn't make any sort of lasting impression on me. Now am I weird, or just everyone else?

Aikanaro
Thu, 6th Nov '03, 12:11pm
Tal, probably a good deal of both. Lesse - the first one was overall brilliant, the second one was less so. I can understand you being turned off the entire idea by that (not that it was 'bad' as such, but it just screamed 'Second in a trilogy!' But then, I do also see how people could see it as bad)

Arabwel
Thu, 6th Nov '03, 12:22pm
Honest opinion? Revolutions sucked, in a way.

And coming from me....

I'm still not hysterical, either. Bad Ara!

Aik, correct!
When I heard that there would come 2 sequals, I didn't like it all that much. I loved the first one, but I never bothered to watch the second.
It's kinda different to LotR. LotR is not finished with the 2nd and the 3rd part (or the Scouring of the Shire. :heh: )

Women are very confusing Yup! There are a hundred thing I'll never understand, all 100 are women.

Had an other test today. A practical one. One part (most difficult) I did 'perfect', according to the teacher. But I have to retry the simple part, so there is a good chance that I will get my points. :)

LKD
Thu, 6th Nov '03, 5:35pm
I love science fiction and fantasy, obviously, but to be brutally honest, the Matrix didn't do it for me to the degree it seems to have affected other people. Maybe it's because I've read so many similar stories before, the whole thing just wasn't that innovative in my opinion. It brought a common science fiction theme to the masses using great special effects, and in that sense it's worth a look, but as far as I'm concerned it's got no deeper message than the original pilot of Star Trek -- the Cage, with which it shares a great deal thematically.

So, the upshot here, Tal, is that you are not alone, though I am most likely seeing the film tomorrow -- I have a date, though I'm not really sure if dating other women is the best thing for me right now . . . . . I'M SO FRIGGING CONFUSED!

Manus
Thu, 6th Nov '03, 5:54pm
For me, the value of The Matrix had very little to do with Science Fiction; its importance was it's teachings in the metaphysical- the same can apply to the original Star-Wars trilogy.

So it wasn't what was new, but what it was that I allready knew, what it re-inforced, which we see so little of in the public eye. It pleased me greatly that people could learn these things.

There is no Spoon.

Chalk up another vote for "What's so great about Matrix?" The first movie was entirely cool, but not to the extent that we made a point of running out to see Reloaded. Consequently, Revolutions isn't even on the radar screen at the moment. Babysitting funds are being reserved for RotK. ;) I'm sure we'll rent the full Matrix trilogy someday, but I doubt we'll buy it until the DVD's are under $15 or so each. LotR, however - for that we'll spring for the boxed set director's cut!

@LKD: {{{hug}}} This is easier said than done, but stop worrying about what *she* wants and be selfish for a while. Do whatever you need to do to keep your head on straight. Here's the thing you're missing - she doesn't really know what she wants right now, so she's playing a nasty little game of trying to have it all. It will backfire on her eventually, and you want to make sure you're well out of the blast zone (or at least protected by your armor of integrity) when it does. Again, {{{hug}}}.

LKD - Sorry, but, SNAP OUT OF IT! You need to put an end to this half-in, half-out nonsense. For Christ's sake, she's got you living in the basement while she has a boyfriend over!

Lay down the law. You just can't let things go on the way they are pretending like it's OK, because obviously it's not.

You need to stop asking us what she wants. Either find out from her, or better yet, ask yourself what you want. Then either give it, get it, or move on.

As I see it, the trouble with the matrix was, that in the beginning there were only one movie. It became a succes, and suddenly they decided to make a trilogy. Which means that they had to somehow make the story continue after the first movie.

LKD: My advice in your case is to get as far away as soon as possible. It should be evidently that there is nothing to be salvaged. (She has a boyfriend!) By still being near, you will only achieve grinding your self down. As discussed in another topic, it is considered as a sign of moral strength being able to be friend afterward. Bah! Been there, done that. Ruined five month of my life before I got smarter!

On another note, I'm finally getting on in NWN. Somehow it seems more interesting now, than it did a year ago. I've even begun thinking about making a module....

I can't see what's so great about role-playing. I mean, you make some melodramatic character and you play the character out melodramatically and you brag about it in game and out of game and you pretend to be your melodramatic character and you act all superior to those who aren't as melodramatic as you and yadda yadda yadda.

People role-play too much. I'm tempted to just clear my head of all things RPG and play some frisbee or football and make fun of geeks who role-play.

Maybe after Friday, though.

LKD, I think the best thing you could do *is* to date this woman. I'm a bit disturbed of how it could come to this, pal. And even more disturbed why you wouldn't search for something more pleasing. But I'm not standing in your shoes so that was easily said.
I'm quite positive on feminism, but this is out of control. Why would you allow her to have a boyfriend and not thinking of dating a woman?

Different thing. I've been drinking yesterday. Not that much, but seemingly enough to get the nasty dwarves inside my head to work on the braindamage, using their hammers on every nerve. AND there was this man on the other side of the wall with a huge powerful drill. Good morning, Nuhn!
