View Full Version : What is your D&D racial archetype?

Rakanishu

Count this in as one of those stupid topics.

The question, which racial archtype do you think your personality fits?

Is it the orc? The hobgoblin? The tiefling?

Tell us why also.

I would probably be a githzerai. This is not because I have their special powers or because I look like them. Nor am I as heroic as Dak'kon.

I would not be the person I am today if it were not for the conflict, both mental and physical that I went through. My early years up to late teens were spent in strife, be it cold war affairs or open conflicts against enemies real, imagined or potential. For better or worse it has made me what I am today.

I would like to think myself as chaotic good, but in fact I seldom do good deeds, so am merely neutral. The "chaotic" element I added in is merely to add a little glory to the fact that most "lawful", conventional and rigid thinking types consider me a pariah.

At the same time, I am not truly chaotic. In fact I am quite conservative and law abiding. However I surely do not qualify as a lawful type, as my history of conflict would prove.

There is a definite mean streak in me. Once there was an innocent, kind hearted boy who if nurtured might have been a good, caring person today. But that was not to be. This boy soon learned firsthand the meaning of cruelty, and soon took satisfaction in inflicting it one others with the same hypocritical unjust pretexts used on him.

I like to think I have grown out of this. The truth is, I never really check myself. On the other hand acts of cruelty or evil leave a bad taste, but this aversion compels me to revenge or vigilante actions.

In short, I am a mere Neutral character, with neither the backbone to be truly good, nor the will to be lawful, nor the enlightenment to be a true individualist, nor the sadism to inflict on others, nor the cunning and hypocrisy useful to get to the top.

Githzerai I am indeed. :(

A drow would best describe my racial archetype.
First impressions for me in real life are ALWAYS bad and most people are willing to condemn me on the spot and do all they can to destroy me.
I'm no Drizzt, therefore I answer their hate with my own wrath utilising either violence or malicious plotting. I'm capable of spinning layer over layers of deceitful webs while I'm not averse to unleashing whupass on my foes.
Like a drow, I am perfectly capable of sacrificing people for my own selfish needs, no matter how trivial. Ruining someone's lifelong dream is inconsequential to me as long as I get what I want.
I also possess Drow single-mindedness and obssesive mental strength. I can wait and plot for great periods of time just to make a project come through.
I am an advocate of chaos, preferring to run wild when the situation allows it. A few months ago, the hope that a particular person would enter my life made me sort of a 'goody-2-shoes'. With that hope extinguished, I have no more excuses for doing such things. While I'm not greedy for rewards that come from helping people, neither am I altruistic.
My friends, most of whom are chaotic evil or lawful evil to me, consider me somewhat a paladin(nooooo   ) and they get very pissed whenever I interfere in an unfair fight or give indifferently to charities. My blatant disregard for authority and social conventions says otherwise though. I guess I can say I'm chaotic good. Or Chaotic neutral with good tendencies. But despised by everyone I meet.
A drow.

Argh, no Darien, that's not what I meant.

Please do say something in this topic.

Seriously, don't you think you fit an archtype (sort of)?

And archtypes rule D & D, you're bound to find one sooner or later.

Or just your basic stuffy human paladin type.... :D

Darien Noella

Rakanishu, I don't know... I'm not feeling very imaginative today. *sigh* You tell me.

Something contradictory, I suppose, with a decent INT that is undermined by severe mood swings. Something that wears a facade of carefree cheerfulness, because whatever is inside is not fit for public scrutiny. Something with high ideals that are slowly being ground into dust by realism.

Hmmm... maybe I should just go back to bed and try again tomorrow. Heh. Sorry, R-.

I really don't have the skills to be any other race. Although it'd be fun to imagine. Maybe an imp . . . nah.

I think I'm probably a kender or gnome. I'm not very tall and according to my friends totally freakin nuts (hooray!). I tend to be either very happy or very depressed or angry. My alignment must be lawfull neutral. I respect and strongly believe in the law.
I would like to be good but the alignment test says I'm neutral. I am no coward.
I am always ready to defend my friends when somebody spreads rumours about them.
I'd just wish THEY would defend me.
I am also very controlled. I can get angry.
Very angry. But I am not the kind of person who would start a fight because I don't wan't to risk my hide for anything.
What hinders me in becoming LG is probably my pride. I always get angry when people insult me. I know it is stupid to value my pride so highly, but its a thing I can't
control. My best ability is that I'm very
tolerant about other peoples minor failings. I can easily ignore such things.
That is also my largest problem as I believe other people to be tolerant too.
This also makes me a bit naive...okay I admit it. I'm a sucker. I always think people tell me the truth.

I got True Neutral on the alignment test and it perfectly reflects reality. I see myself as a reduced in size Treant (LOTR version - strong roots and strong grasp, solid, great mental strength,). If I am correct, they are also referred sometimes as Eldarkyn.

First off I'd be neutral. My friends think it odd when even when we're playing a nice game of MTG during school lunch. I always keep the balance between us. And I act this way in all things, not tending towards good or evil, law or chaos. As for race, probably a wood elf. Slight build, medium height, and I'll kick yer ass if you hurt my forest.

Im a true neutral grey elf theif all the way. I have a tendancy to never take sides in anything and get pissed off at people who do. Im a grey elf cause I like books and I have what is in effect a real life translation of +1 dex, for some reason Im just a lot more agile than everybody I know. of course... that could be because I'm about 6" shorter than everybody I know

6'2"? 200 pounds? You're not a Fat Egg at all are you? heh heh I'm 6' and 210 pounds and I'm only a little chubby, man.

Stabbing in the dark, I'd guess my stats might be...

STR 17 (You can't be as big as I am without being strong)
DEX 10 (Although, I'm very good with my hands)
CON 16 (I'm almost never sick, I can take a lot of punishment as well)
INT 15 (Just guessing, I've yet to take an IQ test)
WIS 17 (It's all in the name, man)
CHA 8 (This fluctuates on an hourly basis, but I can be very charming when I want to be)

I'm an immodest, modest, contradictory (heh, good luck finding anything that doesn't contain a contradiction of some sort...), gruff, friendly, blunt, long-winded, good guy with no respect for authority or those that value dollars more than their souls. I have a dry, warped sense of humor and a lust for unpopular quality. The loner that just wants to get along with people. You'll not learn cold, until you cross me. Destroy or desecrate something I love, and I'll likely destroy you.

And above all else, what's mine is yours, brother.

If there's a race that these apply to, let me know. But even on this ground, I believe I stand as one of a kind.

Hmm, 6' and 210 pounds ?

I'm 6'4 and barely weigh 170 pounds. And I won't start with my own stats :p or maybe a bit.. something like reasonably high Int (15), Cha (16) and Con (16), a decent Str (14) and truly terrible Wis (6) and Dex (7). I could be wrong of course ;)

I'm a pretty solid boy, Lord Bane. Just eyeing up my shoulders, as compared to my waist, I'd guess, oh I don't know, maybe 50 inches around, probably more... I've said before that I wield strength and intelligence as one...

My mom is an excellent cook too, I'm chubby, there's no denying that.

At 6'4" and 170 pounds, you've got to be a bit of a beanpole, heh heh. Am I right?

Mathetais
Mon, 9th Apr '01, 3:51pm
This is a tough one! There is the "character" I would LIKE to be, and then the one that I AM.

At 6'3" and 230 lbs (weight lifting too - not-so-fat-egg), I can't be a true elf.

My aspiration would be Human Paladin - the warrior who defends the weak and proclaims the Truth of righteousness.

My reality would be a half-elven cleric. I'm good at the helping/proclaiming/teaching work. I actually have my Masters of Divinity (officially making me a 1st level cleric). I'm not much of a warrior though.

I chose half-elf because I've always felt like an outcast. I have all the potential and traits to run with the crowd, but something inside pulls me to the finges. I'm popular on a surface level, but most relationships fall flat.

The closest parellel to my angst would be Tanis Half-Elven.

Shura;

Its difficult to put into writing the way my paladin would respond to that.

He wouldn't respond verbally to your taunts. You'd probably notice the sad look in his eye, maybe a tear, as your sword glanced off his armor, maybe even wounding him slightly.

As you died, at least only holy thing would enter your mind -- my HOLY AVENGER SWORD! :p

Shura
Mon, 9th Apr '01, 8:07pm
My Kensai'ed Katana is +5. Glance off your armour indeed.
Probably skewered your heart, excised your lungs, removed your intestines and lop off both of your legs before you could even lift that lumbering sword of yours.
As you die, the last thing you'll see is your fair maiden lover tossed to my Ta'naari Dretches for lunch.

Sounds good! I will become a student of Shura the Kensi. Since my name means "disciple" I guess you can be my new RPG roll model :D

Back to this topic . . .

I'm surprised that most people tend to idealize themselves. I wonder if there are any gnomes or half-orcs out there in the shadows. I know that in my younger days, I would have played a Wood Elf while feeling like a gully dwarf inside.

I'm also a interested in what dieties characters have associated themselves with? Sometimes a character's sprituality is more telling than their race or class.

Rakanishu

Don't bother with Shura, Matthais. He's just a spiteful bubber. In fact, I know for a fact that as soon as he's finished his role as a patsy Lord Grazzt would personally imprison him and conduct researches - painful ones - to discover Shura's ability to walk through portals without keys.

After all, despite the power he claims he has he probably can't stand up against a blubbering Nupperibo, hence his assignments against low level "paladines". :D

Mathetais
Tue, 10th Apr '01, 6:11pm
Thanks Rakanishu! I was having nightmares! ;)

I know from experience that most people into the RPG scene are all blow and no show.

That really fits into this topic. The beauty of RPG's is that we can safely project our selves into forms that our imagination creates.

If we couldn't do that, no one would waste their time here! :D

Mathetais:

*A small gnome steps from the shadows* In my adventuring days, I don't run across very many of my kind. Actually, my other character in P&P is a half-orc barbarian. :) I seem to run characters that not very many people usually play. Although, I've never played as a halfling before, I always seem to run into one or get stuck travelling along side of one. To be honest, I've grown fond of those lil boogers.

P.S. Don't get him wrong, Shura is really a cool guy. He grows on yah. He just has a unique descriptive way of killing someone. That's why I like his style. :)

Little Buddy!

I applaud your choices. It takes a very secure person to play an unusual character! I remember the first time I played a halfling . . . my friends never stopped ribbing me! If I mentioned the "G" word (gnome), it would have been messy.

Don't worry about me and Shura. I like him too. I'm new to the post, so I don't know all the combat protocol. I'm guessing its better to just ignore him. My not-so-witty come-backs fell a little flat. ;)

I'm now going to try to link myself to the race I play - Dwarf. Um, i'm shorter than average, Scottish, loose my temper easily, and think magic is too complicated for me. Unfortunately I don't have any facial hair to speak of.
Spirituality - Moradin, because I only experienced DnD through BG and He's the only dwarven god I know.
oh, my character seems a little gnomish at times, because I am used to Warhammer, in which dwarven engineers are responsible for flamethrowers, guns and helicopters.

CON:16
INT:18
WIS:12
CHA:14

Wow, double figs in all stats!

Mon, 2nd Jul '01, 7:47am
Hmm...I'd say Tiefling Mage/Thief here. I got a Neutral Evil on my alignment test ;)(no foolin').

As for stats...hmmm. I'm 6', 140lbs.

STR: 10(I have few delusions regarding myself :))
DEX: 15(I can fall down a flight of stairs and still manage a weak "Tada" at the end)
CON: 10(c'mon, 140 at 6'?)
INT: 18(34 on the ACT, 1520 on SAT, 164 on IQ...and I waste it all, let me assure you :P)
WIS: 13(I am wise in some areas, pretty blind in others it seems)
CHA: 14(This is tricky...it would be lower if it were just looks, but I think I can be charming in a self-depreciating way)

I think an evil race/class is appropriate, since I guess I am neutral evil at heart. As a matter of fact, 3 seperate groups of people, all completely seperate from each other, have taken to referring to me as 'The Devil' over my objections.

I'd like to think that the nickname is good natured. ;)

I'm an elven ranger and my racial archtype is Undead.

Capstone
Mon, 2nd Jul '01, 4:28pm
I'd say my racial archetype is probably gnome. I'm not particularly small at 5'10" and 165 lb, but I've never considered my physical characteristics to be the defining ones. My abilities are pretty much all mental. I have the gnomish passion for tinkering; I like to think outside the box. I'm also, like the gnomes, rather eccentric at times. I'd probably be a gnome cleric/illusionist (correct me if that's not possible); cleric because I care about people and always try to help & heal them when possible, illusionist because I have the gnomish affinity for dissembling (as well as detecting others who dissemble). Also I consider magic to be the AD&D equivalent of science, which is my realm.

I've created stats for myself more than once here, but rather than go back and find them, I think I will just make them up again.

STR: 11 Used to be stronger, but I never exercise anymore outside of sports.
DEX: 12 Average hand-eye coordination.
CON: 13 Resist sickness fairly well, but nothing special.
INT: 19 36 on ACT, 1600 on SAT, and 179 IQ last I checked (180 is genius).
WIS: 16 Fairly adept at dealing with people and situations, applying common sense, and understanding "the heart of the matter".
CHA: 15 I get along quite well with people nowadays. I don't have any enemies that I know of. I'm especially good with four-year-old girls, don't know why.

Con 19 (not been sick in years)
Int 17+ (1400 psat dispite spelling)
wis 10- (cant find things)
Chr ?? ( I have no idea am a loner so probably low)

Hey all, I'm new to the board. I just wanted to start off on the wrong foot. Alot of you guys are in love with yourselves. You know who you are saying your worst score is a 12 and your best is a 20, and that you're a paladin who saves people and runs around doing good. Puh-leeze! Ok, I'm done with that now, so lets get down to buisiness. I'd say that I'm a dorf, even though I dont look or act like a dorf, I just like dorfs. In reality, I'd say I'm a quarter-orc, and the only thing inherited from my orc grandparent (Grandma Neen, that witch) would be the, er, not so good looks. I'm 5'10, 200 pounds, but I'm only 16, so (hopefully) I'm not done growing. I'd say im chaotic good, because a) I think it's the best alignment. b) I got it on the test. c) I joke around alot, but I always have good intent and stick up for the bullied kids at school. Now, for the stats.
Str: 16. I can bench about 210, and I leg press 800. Nuff said.
Dex: 10. I'm a slow mover, and quite clumsy, but I have very good reflexes, and my hand-eye coordination ain't bad.
Con: 8. Ouch. I am in terrible shape, and I get sick alot. ALOT. I didn't put it lower because I can take alot of physical pain.
Int: 16. I think I'm a smart guy, I go to the best school in Hawaii, and I have an I.Q. of 161. I just divided by 10, and rounded, which I think is a good method, seeing how average is 103, and few exceed 180.
Wis: 10. I don't apply myself to my work, and I do alot of stupid things and pranks. However, I know when enough is enough, and when I HAVE to start working, or when I have to stop screwing around. I also have common sense, I mean it is common, isn't it?
Cha: 14. I like to think charisma is not how you look, but how you act. I have a great sense of humor, as narcissistic as that sounds, and I get along with everybody I want to get along with, but I try not to get along with truly evil b*st*rds, like the pedophile kid. I also have great influence over others, and usually make them see things my way, it's my way, my way or the highway. Sorry. I hindered my charisma because I still made looks a part of this, though not as major as most do.

Um, dont forget that an average human is limited with 18 as his/her max stat. Einstein would be a fine one for 18 INT and a person with 18 DEX should be able to hit a squirrel in the eye, with the animal being 100ft away by using a slingshot only. 18 STR allows you to carry about 300 pounds of weight on you with no sweat. With 18 CON you should resist direct influence of a stream of Ebola or walk around the core of nuclear reactor with no protective gear.

Of course, that might be exagerrated by have my two cents.
