View Full Version : Ability Scores?

Sir Belisarius
Wed, 10th Jan '01, 1:15pm
We've taken the alignment test...Now what do you think YOUR ability scores would be in game terms? I don't know if anyone's posted this before...But I thought it might be fun. Here's my best guess for me:

Str: 18/25 (I was looking through an old player's handbook and it said a person with 18 strength can military press 180 pounds over their head...I can do about 260.)

Int: 13 about average

Dex: 12 Not a graceful swan, but not a bull in a china shop either!

Con: 11 Strong, but in need of some stamina building - I can still run a mile, but it's not pretty. Sitting behind a computer all day will do that to you.

Wis: 15 (I feel like a pretty enlightened guy)

Chr: 16 (At least in my own mind) LOL!

Well, there you have it. Anyone else care to join in?

Here's mine: Hee
Strength: 18/00 that's why I'm a bad ass, although not awesomely strong
Dexterity: 14 although big sized, i'm still quite coordinated in my movements.
Constitution: 16 I've shrugged off flus in a couple of hours and can take a lot of physical punishment.
Wisdom: 4 hell lot of trouble I've gotten into because of my actions....
Intelligence: 17 or 18 I'm pretty bright..but extremely lazy as reflected in my low Wisdom.
Charisma: 9 I make Lemures and Manes look good when I stand next to them but I can still socialise with my wit and charm.
That's why I really want a Ring of Human Influence...sigh..
If I was in Faerun, I'll definitely be a fighter...a kensai if I could.

The Fat Egg
Wed, 10th Jan '01, 10:06pm
str: 19, i'm buff, fat, but there is a lot of muscle under there ( i bench press 300)
dex: 6, since i'm fat, i'm not at all flexible
cha:10, i'm fat, but not so fat i break the scale, and i think my gote helps it a bit
int:20, i went to a good college, graduated in the top 10 % with honors, and have a few degrees
wis: 12,i'm somewhat enlightened, but not that much
co: 12, about average, can run a mile, but also not pretty

Well at first I thought this was going to be a 'almost' serious thread, but looking at the numbers you all are putting up I guess not. With those stats you should all be adventuring. ;) Here is my best guess.

STR 14 - I can Military press 120 and bench 180
DEX 11 - about average
CON 13 - I can run a 7 mins mile but only 2 at once
INT 15 - I have a masters degreee and a 145 IQ
WIS 12 - I'm still young (under 30) so I have a lot of life to experience
CHR 11 - I'm average, nothing special to look at.

Divine Shadow

That was hard...I think I would probably be
a lawfull neutral mage.

Str: 7. I admit it! i am a wimp!
C: 14. I am in good shape...I think.
D: 7. I tend to drop things way too often...
I: 16. I think I'm quite bright.
W: 5. I have a tendency to say stupid things.
CH: 5. People think I am a religious, roleplaying cultist(?) and vampire-freak besides being boring like hell, having a bad sense of humour and having that sick idea that homework should be made...

Dex: 8 (my hands have a tendency to shake all the time)
Con: 14 (above average)
Int: 16 (I'm very good a maths, physics & stuff)
Wis: 15 (I know much)
Chr: 10 (reduced by computer gaming)

Let me see...if i'm not wrong a bench press is when you lay on your back, grab these handles and life a weight behind you no? Anyway lets see what i would give my self...

Str: 13 (I can do 60 chin ups but a max bench press of 65)
Int: 17 (For my age that is...I tend to be with the brainy kids in my school)
Dex: 15 (I used to train in Taikwondo)
Cons: 11 (I can run distances but i can take a degree of punishment)
Wis: 9 (I'm mostly a fool and i know it! Though why i'm leader in my group i hardly know)
Cha: 14 (I'm pretty popular among my friends and even some of the girls!)

Well thats it...not that impressive huh?

60!?!?!?!?! ****, we got a SEAL in training here! :)

STR - 12 (avg.), I'm not the weakest in my year, but then, I wouldnt win an armwrestling tournament.

DEX - 10, I can be pretty clumsy, and I can't run for ****.

CON - 16, I hardly ever get ill, I only missed school last year through scyving twice.

INT - 17, I am pretty brainy, I'm in all the top groups at school. 137 IQ.

WIS - 10, I can be a prick if you tempt me :).

CHR - 12, I'm not a loner, I'm pretty popular in school. I'm not the most confident of guys though, and I can get pretty nervous.

I notice you're all giving yourself fairly high intelligence scores which is fine but I just wanted to point out a nifty little tidbit I learned about D&D int scores. It's supposed to be likened to real life IQ scores, just multiply by 10. So if your IQ is 140 then your int score would be 14. So now you can see why an 18 intelligence is supposed to be so extremely rare.

Sorry, not trying to rain on anyone's parade :D

Looks like we have a collection of brainy tough guys here!
As for me I'm average:

STR: 15 - (bench: 200, mp: maybe 130, squat: 270)
DEX: 12 - can be clumsy sometimes
CON: 6 - can't stand injuries/ faint at the sight of blood, get colds quite often (2 beers get me drunk)
INT: 14 - a bit above average, have a B. Sc. in engineering
WIS: 13 - I've seen quite a bit and travelled a bit (would have had 15, but I got married ;))
CHR: 13 - kinda ugly, but people seem to like me, am confident and successful

Lo
Fri, 12th Jan '01, 4:35am
Str 13 - I will hurt u if I have too :)
Dex 14 - Will try to improve
Con 15 - Get ill but recover quickly
Int 13 - No idea what my IQ is, so I'd rather understimate it... My marks have been above average for most of my life, in both humanities and sciences, which is why I'm struggling through uni now, haven't found the right path yet :)
Wis 13 - This should increase with age, but even now I find myself more tolerant and open to different people opinions than others...But than there are times when I forget myself so Wis of 1 might be as applicable
Cha 10 - I can charm people if I want to, but usually I don't

str-16, i have been doing weightlifting and **** like that for the past two years, i can becnh press 250, i can use 10k dumb-bells 1237 times before i had to stop cuz my muscle ripped and i started screaming.

con-15, i get sick easily but heal extremely quickly, i broke my arm once and didnt make a single sound, the doctors were amazed cuz i wasnt in shock or nuthin and the adreanlin had worn of!

dex-10, not too good, not too bad, although i;'m told i'm very gentle with my hands...

int-13, i have an iq of 136, anything over 140 is described as "genius, genetical scientist level"

chr-17, i'm seeing one of the most beatiful girls in my school, i have a few very close friends and a lot of close friends

wis-12, i can always see both sides of any argument and i still have a lot of growing up to do!!

i think these are pretty good cuz i'm only 14!!
i am extremly proud of my dumb-bell record and my bench press!

(it doesnt matter how much you can lift on a bencpress, for you to be able to say you can do that weight you have to be able to do it ten times without stopping!)

Str: 12 I'm not yet grown up, it will be 16 in 4 years
dex: 15 good eye coordination, fast punching (makes me win fights, If you hit someone first on the nose he won't hit you back.)
con:17 I have a great stamina!! playing soccer and tennis.
wis:8 Ii is low that combined with CN alingment means expelled or Banned or 'where done'.
int:16 makes it up for my low wis, I had to do a IQ-test when I was 12 (the where looking if a 'special' school would be good for me)I't turnes out to me real high I was taking a test for 15 years old so they expected me to score below the average and it went out to be a 128 it would be higher if the test was right suided.
cha:15 This maybe sounds weird but my high int makes me charming, knowing wath the others want to hear, or knowing how to react.

I'm really suided as a Jester, i'm actually thinking to write a script as a stand-up comedian.
I know that I'm never funny on this board, thats becouse my native language is dutch not english,my english is real good for someone in my position , I learned english from TV, games and from this board.

On the alignment test, I scored Neutral Evil, not as my character, but as myself. I might not have been entirely truthful i guess but anyhow:

STR:14(not Wulfgar but i'm of stronger than many)

DEX:17(i never miss my mark)

CON:15(sickness touches me not)

INT:14(i'm pretty good in mathematics and such)

WIS:12(i'm young)

CHR:14(people tend to like me in person (not to seem conceited or anything))
As for class I'd probably be a thief. Stealth is my kind of thing.

con: 9 (I can't run for crap, I'm rather overweight. Although I practically never get sick, let's be real...if you get tired swinging a blade, you won't last long enough to get sick)
wis: 12 (I have quite a few of those D'OH! moments)
int: 16 (Still in college, but I was top in my HS class for history and I contested at the National level for math)
chr: 12 (I'm not quite the most charming person, but I don't think I'm butt ugly either)

As far as intelligence goes, let's face it. We're talking Dark Ages intelligence. The average person couldn't read, write, or do arithmetic. Sounds...KINKY!

You know, this might have little to do with this thread, but paladins have the tendency to suck in BG2. They gotta have high intelligence and charisma. Not only that, but their intelligence and dexterity have pretty high requirements too. This gives them about 17 points to throw around, and who ever imagined a paladin who was weak, couldn't fire a bow if his life depended on it, and had low hit points?

Blackthorne TA
Tue, 23rd Jan '01, 4:49pm
Ah... But the good thing about Paladins in BG2 (oh wait I could be wrong since I've only imported in BG2; it's true for BG1 and IWD though) is that if the random roll comes out less than the minimum score required to be a Paladin, it is set to the minimum score. That makes it easier to get more high scores, and higher totals overall...

No way! Then I would just be running around in a game world as me! There's no fun in that. The whole point of playing RPG's and CRPG's is to be a hero in the world...Someone with exceptional abilities, skills and talents.

Most of the scores I listed are pretty average...The one thing I know for sure, is that I am a lot stronger physically than most people...Other than that, I am just another inhabitant of Mundania...That's the last thing I want to be in a fantasy game.

Plus, PC's in the game are supposed to be "exceptional" that's why most of the people are o level 4-6 hit point, but the adventurers can increase to high level with much higher abilitiies, hit points, etc...

Well, so much for my Wednesday morning rant...

Sorl
Wed, 24th Jan '01, 4:52pm

Then you haven't been to Washington DC.

Anyway, did you know that there are dragons in the Old Testament of the Bible? Yep, and supposedly, a bunch of saints also killed dragons in the middle ages. Who knows perhaps there are dragons, or were dragons.

Taluntain
Wed, 24th Jan '01, 9:07pm
Well there are plenty accounts of dragons throughout the history, most of them coming from the oriental parts of the world.
But dragons, such as we picture them could never exist for real.
The biggest problem being the fact that they'd have to have wings 5 times the size fantasy artists present them with, if they were supposed to be able to fly, not just crawl on the ground. ;)

P.S.
Most of those accounts of dragons were later attributed to various species of lizards who could get pretty big and scary-looking, but alas no dragons. ;)

Roghnaithe

Voltric
Wed, 24th Jan '01, 10:36pm
Well the one interesting thing is that almost every culture has some sort of dragon in it's myths. From the far east to the middle east, from western europe to the native Americans, almost ever civ has stories of dragons in their past. So does this point to a theory of 'shared consciousness'? A past memory of creatures from the past. Why do you think the idea of giant lizards exits for so many peoples? Memories of the dinosaurs?

Lord Moeken
Thu, 25th Jan '01, 12:50am
I think we humans weren't really around when the great lizards ruled the world. If we look at different societies around the world, several similarities can be found between them. Most have some form of diety, most have some sort of partnership (marriage) ritual, and probably most have some sort of legend pertaining to giant lizards.

I mean, when I think of fantastic monsters that can stir our very blood, a vision of a carrion crawler doesn't come to mind. A big, flying, firebreathing, treasure hording dragon is the only way to go!

Sapiryl
Thu, 25th Jan '01, 2:52am
Speaking of racial memory, did you know that the majority of people on the plan have an inborn fear of snakes?

Sol'Kanar
Thu, 25th Jan '01, 4:02am
Not this religion stuff again. Personally I love snakes, and always have. Spiders, on the other hand. Were I a ranger they'd be my racial enemy.

Lord Moeken
Thu, 25th Jan '01, 4:45pm
Snakes just seem so foreign to me, maybe that's why many people have a fear of them. I mean look at them; no appendages, viscious fangs that are often venemous, ability to crush and devour a man whole, cold blooded, infra-red sensors on some rattle snakes. These things are more like a monster than an animal. OOOH I'm getting scared as I type. ;)

Hold on there's something under my desk....

Roghnaithe
Thu, 25th Jan '01, 10:59pm
You all are wussies (j/k). I really don't have a fear of any creature, just respect. Anyone every watch "The Corcodile Hunter" (Steve Irwin)? He is one funny Aussie.

Lo
Fri, 26th Jan '01, 6:42am
U ought to go to one of 'em crocodil farms, if u ever come down here. Very hard to be scared of crocodiles after u get to see hundreds of them lying around motionless for hours like bricks. Also they only eat once or twice a week (or was it a month?), so the picture of greedy always hungry monster if far from truth. And oh that soft crocodile baby scin...Nothing like holding a croc in your hands :)
I probably was scared of mice and spiders and snakes and whatever as so many girls (and not just girls :) are. But somehow I don't feel it today. Most of the most deadly spider and snake species live here, and I guess can crawl into my backyard right about now... But u can also be killed by some brick falling down from a roof of a house u pass by every day. There's no reasons to have phobias, unless they were induced by fear in childood. And even then they can be treated.
The most weird looking animals for me are insects, when viewed under microscope. Those ticks and roaches look like something out of sci-fi horror movie, totally alien and unEarthlike. And yet, there are more insects on Earth then of all the other animals put together. Maybe snakes and humans are aliens :)
Go to a terrarium (the reptile enclosure, could be found in your local zoo) and study those reptiles for a while. Maybe eventually besides disguist u will gain appreciation for their beauty and uniqeness. If they don't have live limbs, it is because they didn't need them when the Earth was young and there was no land to see. They are really build very cleverly, yet simple, beautiful design :)

Seems like I'm abusing the smiley... Will try very hard not to smile *grin*
Back to the mythology, there are tales of dragons in Russian fables. Except they are called Snake Mountains (Zmei Gorinich) and have rather interesting abilities. Firstly some of them have several heads, varies from 1 to 9. Secondly if a brave warrior with his sword chops one of those heads, two more regenerate in its place. Yet, the humans end up winning somehow.
Anybody wants to tell of the other interesting dragons in their culture?

There is an interesting parallel to draggons in the northern sagas.
The Midgard snake (often also called worm) which spanned the whole world circle (so I'm not shure if it could actually fly :D), was the main enemy of the Asgard family of gods. I can't even imagine the stats it would have in BG. Thor was killed fighting it (and he was no miserable demigod :p) and he was supposed to have created some new fjords with his hammer during a fight with a giant (who btw a spellweaver illusionist and no coward melee fighter), so he had some respectable stats of his own.

To the best of my knowledge the viking 'worm' could not fly, but it so definately a 'dragon' like creature. Just one more example of a culture that has a dragon in it's myths, shape by local idea and conditions. But still a universal concept at it's core.

Darien Noella
Thu, 1st Feb '01, 3:33pm
In my reading of Native American lore, I can't recall ever finding reference to a dragon or a dragon-like creature. Most of the stories center around natural animals, (coyote, rabbit, crow, frog, etc). The closest I can remember are tales of a "Great Serpent" that more closely resembles a giant snake, than an imaginary creature with wings and/or claws.

Does anyone know of any dragon lore in African culture? That's another I've never seen.
