I know that with a willing DM you can do virtually anything but does anyone know if there are any real oficial rulings about pure druids using things like BGs Anakeg plate mail.

View Full Version : Alternate armors for druids... kemanmaldea Sat, 14th Jul '01, 4:29pm I know that with a willing DM you can do virtually anything but does anyone know if there are any real oficial rulings about pure druids using things like BGs Anakeg plate mail. Gnolyn Lochbreaker Sat, 14th Jul '01, 5:29pm In the P&P rules, there isn't anything that specifically refers to those specialty armours (akhege plate, dragon scale, etc). As far as druids are concerned, it's a general rule: they can only use armour that has a significant natural element, like leather, hide or studded leather. That's the rule that applies in this case. While called "plate mail", it is essentially made of ankheg 'hide'. Which makes it allowable, I guess. But it's the DMs interpretation of that rule. It's also a question of balance: will allowing a druid to use ankheg plate and dragon scale make them too powerful? Druids with really good armour, IMHO, should be limited, since they have numerous spells that give them good AC. As a DM, you may also rule that the armour affects some of their abilities, such as shape changing -- or, that going around killing lots of ankhegs and dragons for their armour is "unethical" for the druid. kemanmaldea Sun, 15th Jul '01, 6:47pm Definate point on the the unethicallity of a druid purposely killing anakegs and dragons. But then there are the ones that are simpley bent on your distruction. All I can say is that If I was to DM a group with a druid I would alow it. I just thought of this. Would you be able to say the same thing about killing animals in order to make hide armor [This message has been edited by kemanmaldea (edited July 27, 2001).] |
