View Full Version : Mod list install order
Odin Mon, 29th Nov '04, 11:38am Ok Here is my Currant Situation
Please respond if you have knowledgable replys, very critical to me here.
Thanks,
I am going to reinstall Shadow, then Throne then Throne Patch.
I don't want to start a new game, rather use my currant saves.
(I have finished most of the outer Athlaka quest, still in chapter2)
(Finished some town quest but have much to do yet)
Q!: Will my saves still be there, or do I need to copy them????
These are the Mods (below), that I want to add to the game
1)BG2 text update and fix pack (Baldurdash I think)
2)Ease of use
3)Aby Store and abystore debug file (merchant)
4)Volcano (merchant)
5)Bw Herb and Potion sales (merchant)
6)Bonus merchants (of course, two extra with special Ed.)
7)Cromwell smithy (upgade items)
8)Weimers Item Upgrade (upgrade items)
9)Cespy Audio (Use with Item Upgrade, expanded dialoge)
10)Banter pack (improved NPC, ect dialoge)
11)Juggernot golem (Improves or corrects golem in game)
12)Turnip golem (Adds Stew thee fierce turnip golem)
13)Improved horn of Valhalla (adds bezerker rage)
14)Heart of Wood (adds a druid staff that can summon some
entirely new cretures, recieved as grove quest.)
15)Bag Bonus (adds a few extra holding devices and ammo devices)
16)Goo (NPC, floating eyeball of wierdness)
17)Britt (NPC, non-joinable NPC, interesting dialoge.)
That much I think is non-weidu?
Q2: Can anybody tell me different?
Q3: Are there any known compatablity issues with these mods together??
I would like to add;;
1)Planar Sphere return (allows to return to sphere without travel)
2)Planer Sphere expansion (expands on stronghold)
3)Expanded Theifs stronghold (as stated, IE)
4)Sequencer mod and debug file (allows user to look at spells stored)
5)Unfinished Business (Expanded and excluded content)
That much I think is non-weidu also?
Q4: Can anybody tell me different?
Q5: Are there any known compatablity issues with these mods together
assuming I have the ones above??
Q6: Is there any install order I should follow for these mods other than
what was already mentioned in previous replys.
Q7: Is ther an Exp cap in Throne of Bhaal??
Q8: What is this mod file, (I down loaded it and don't know waht it is,
Gbthfkpv-2-8.zip??????
I am a fool when it comes to installing and useing winzip. Some of the mod or programs run automaticlly some don't. Can someone fill me in on installing these with WinZip (for dummies) {I am not an good extracter and have done very little}
Some of the install descriptions are brief and seem like you need editing devices. Is that true or am I wrong?? I hope I don't need editors, if I do, I would most likelynot install them.
[Example of these]:: Heart of Wood mod.
Also The sequencer one says to copy files and edit numbers, is that right?
How does the bonus bag install???
Sorry so long, but I hope to have this going buy the end of the week or sooner. But take with a sip of milk or Woodland Ale if you like, or Searlonian Topaz Wine or.......
Thanks Moders and alike

Alavin Mon, 29th Nov '04, 6:30pm Q1. Assuming you select the same install destination as where you uninstalled from, the saves will still be in the right place.
Q2. WeiDU mods use Wes Weimer's creation, and can be told apart by there being a folder, an exe file and a tp2 file to be put in your BG2 directory. Of the mods listed, only the Juggernaut Golem fix is non-WeiDU (unless it was updated recently without my knowledge), and maybe Heart of the Wood, but I'm not sure about that one.
Q3. As far as I can recall, there are no compatibility issues with them if the install works correctly.
Q4. All of the second list are WeiDU, except maybe the Sequencer mod, because I don't know that one.
Q5. Nope.
Q6. It doesn't matter much with those mods, as far as I know.
Q7. I think it's 8 million, but that's from memory, and so may be wrong.
Q8. That is the expanded thief stronghold.
Also, for the Planar Sphere Mod, get the file contained here: http://jacks-space.tripod.com/index.html
This is more text fixes.
Odin Thu, 2nd Dec '04, 8:06am I was hoping to clarify a few things with you and any.
Do you think In my case I can add all these mods to one game at my stage in game play and continue where I left off? I have finished about all of the Planar sphere except the potion making apprentice part. Should I add it? Do you think the Juggernot golem will be a bad choice to install, (also for heart of wood)? I was told using old saves to stick with non-weidu, but don't quote me on that one.
Do you think unfinished business is too much for the same reason?
Thanks for the info,
jcompton Thu, 2nd Dec '04, 8:17am It should be all right, but I'd suggest loading up to make sure you haven't made a mistake after you put the first few mods on. If you sit through 18 installs and discover a problem, you'll be very, very upset.
And the bit about only using non-WeiDU mods in the midst of a game makes no sense whatsoever, so either you're remembering wrong or you were told wrong.
Odin Fri, 3rd Dec '04, 6:11am Thanks JC, lots of advice, sometimes contradictory to the cause.
Judgement Day Has Arived
The Day of Reckoning has come!!!!
SO, I installed BG2+ Throne+ patch. Baldur Dash fix and text update. Ease of use. Improved Banter pack. Weimers Item upgrade+ added(improved) Cespy audio. Juggernot golem improv. Volcano merchant store+ BW herbs and potions merchant. And Goo (eyeball NPC extrodenar) Also Unfinished Business and expanded theifs guild.
I wanted planar sphere expansion stronghold expansion but I have finished about the whole thing so I figured it may be bugged to add this late?? Same for planar sphere return mod.
I figured the sequencer mod and the smithy mod are editors or tools so I did not use them either. Any info on these would be great for later games?? How they work??
Heart of Wood looks to complicated to install. couple of tool needed, That I have but unknown to me. Item looks to be the coolest though. New monsters not in game, can be summoned. If you figure this one out in laymans terms post it in a new thread.
I don't know how to install Aby store, Britt (Unjoinable npc), improved horn of valhalla, and bag bonus.
I think these require copy files and the format to do so is unclear to me. Can anyone explain it to me???
Uses terms like @1 copy~bfg.boo~ ~something else compleatly different~
ect, ect, .....this is an example, so can some translate the ~~'s from the copies????
I think I can add them in if I new how. I tested it where I left off and it seems to be working so far. I am so happy. Hopefully no buggs other than Jans Turnips' hit me.
Thanks Folks,
Itz Been Real

You unzip the mod to your BG2 directory and run the associated Setup-xxxx.exe file.
Odin Sat, 4th Dec '04, 12:46pm Thanks againder Jcompton for the mod mender.
Anyway, I got turnip golem, Improved Horn of Valhalla, and Aby store to work.
I could NOT get bag bonus and Britt (the unjoinable NPC) to work. I noticed they are both "rar" files. What ever that means???
DO you know?
Did I get the wrong download. Because there is no 'exe' when unzipping them to my BG directory.
Taluntain Sat, 4th Dec '04, 2:38pm Rar is just another compression method, better than Zip. Get WinRAR from http://www.rarlab.com/ to open such files (WinRAR can also handle Zip files).
Odin Sun, 5th Dec '04, 7:20am Ok, I got the rarwin tool and used it for britt, fine. But I went to use it for bag bonus, it worked except the auto install exe runs then says
'unable to find "dialoge talk" in dialoge talk file.
There is a file called dialoge talk. Were this came from, I don't know but it is either with the BG game or with bagbonus?? Anybody know?
Anwser to this puzzle please if known??
Thank you.
The Odin Mister
P.S. where can I find 1)Xyx’s Beholder Hive Upgrade, Multicolored Beholders, Smarter Beholders mod??

jcompton Sun, 5th Dec '04, 6:27pm Unable to find dialog.tlk means you extracted it to the wrong directory. You must keep the folder structure intact and extract all files to the same directory that contains the BGMain.exe and dialog.tlk files.
Odin Mon, 6th Dec '04, 1:58am I extracted them to bg2 main directory.
What directory do you mean ?
Should I delete the file dialoge talk??
Is this an exclusive bag bonus file????
I know when I try to run the exe it says at end to run in Infinity engine main directory. ?>
Lost with a Glabrezu on this one,,,

jcompton Mon, 6th Dec '04, 7:49am No, you should in no circumstances delete the dialog.tlk file, it is a crucial core game file.
I don't know the Bag Bonus Mod well enough to comment on whether or not there is simply a bug with the installer or if you have made a mistake.
Odin Tue, 7th Dec '04, 7:07am Thanks for that J, but I think the download is missing the dialog talk file? Unknown because my other rar. files worked.
with that, my next dillema,
Moding solutions and problems
I started a game with throne of bhaal. I had saves from the shadows of Amn game before I installed mods. I plan using these saves.
I installed unfinished business, ease of use, baldurdash update with text update, improved banter pack, item upgrade and Cespy audio upgrade. a few other small mods.
The problem is I went to speak with CromWell and the first dialog choice was someting that leads me to saying a bunch erroronis text.
Stuff about Edwin the girl, stuff about Boo being stold, stuff about Aerie. I think all this dialoge goes with another NPC. Is there a problem or is it just singled with just cromwell??
Second note:: I also have turnip golem installed. How do I get this to activate? Like what and where are the triggers??

Andyr Tue, 7th Dec '04, 11:59am That sounds like you installed the official patch or a non - WeiDU mod after WeiDU mods, or installed a mod or patch while the game or an editor was running. :)
Based on those you listed, the order should be the patch, the Baldurdash fxes, then the other mods. Install order of those mods shouldn't matter, but just in case could you post what the 'few other small mods' are?
To fix your problem I'd suggest a reinstall in the correct order. :)
Odin Sat, 11th Dec '04, 8:59am I have got most of it figured out, I just want to know can I still use Cromwell the blacksmith to upgrade the items from the original unmadded game version?
Also how do I activate the turnip golem?
sdwillie Sat, 27th Aug '05, 2:34am Just found an issue with Item Upgrade and Unfinished Business, and haven't found anything yet on Pocket Plane about correct order to install. It may have been caused by reinstalling Item Upgrade since improved Kitthix was causing the game to lock up. Now Item Upgrade is my oldest installed mod. I know that to get the original upgrades you tell Cromwell to look thru your bag, he says 'this'll take a minute' and if you have new upgradable components he gives you a long list. What gets missed is that you have as your first reply "get on with it." Click that and you get the original upgrades.
The issue with the install order is that you can get weird dialogue from a different part of Unfinished Business, but any dialogue option you choose seems to bypass the problem as Cromwell will then start offering to make the original objects (shadow armor et al.). Doesn't seem to screw up the game, just creates an odd conversation.
Andyr Wed, 31st Aug '05, 12:19am Odd lines of text appearing is generally not a bug with the mod, but a problem with the end user's installation. Specifically, misplaced lines like that suggest you did one of the following:
- Installed a non-WeiDU mod or the Official Patch after WeiDU mods
- Installed a mod or patch while the game or a game editor was running (this seems more likely)
The solution is to do a reinstall. :)
Unfinished Business and Item Upgrade are both WeiDU mods, and are both compatible with each other.
Baronius Wed, 31st Aug '05, 2:31pm Since it is on your list, I would like to mention that the BG2 Herbs Mod is also a WeiDU mod. So you can install in the same phase as you install Unfinished Business or any other WeiDU mods.
Volcano is also a WeiDU mod, but I don't recommend installing it unless you like overpowered items (+6 sword, some crazy wizard spells).
