View Full Version : Sarevok, to join or not let him join

I beat SOA then I installed TOB and started a TOB game.
I’m at the part when I get to choose who I want to pick for my party.
I’m a Ranger. I had Minsc as my partner in SOA.
Minsc and I and Boo did some nice damage with our swords.
But now Sarevok is in my party and he is a 2 handed sword person too.
Does Sarevok affect the plot if I have him or I don’t?
Or Should I just have a big happy family and kick neither out and have 3 close combat fighters? I’m going to have Edwin as my spell caster. Now all I need is a thief and a cleric.
There is a lot of thief/mages but I not sure I really want that.
And Vicionia (forgot how to spell her name) only has 9 con.
So help me decide with Cleric to pick, which thief, and should I keep Sarevok?

If you keep Sarevok, then you three will be the bane of everything that even looks at you in a wrong way. Sarevok is the best fighter in the game, Minsc is excellent and I guess your character could be allowed to hit a goblin or two..:D
Sarevok may even turn his alignment to Chaotic Good, but you need to NOT make him swear the oath at the beggining. Later on you need to "show him the light" during the interactions. He won't affect the game in a different way than any other npc would.
Viconia is an excellent cleric, but IMHO Aerie is also very good because she can cast mage spells as well.
Regardng the thief, I've seen some reccomendations about dual classing Sarevok to a thief. Check the previous posts. I personally used Shadow Keeper and made a normal thief out of Imoen, after I lost Yoshi and found her, back in BG2...

Hey My Ranger is amazing!
/me  To Bruce!

What do you mean by not making take the oath?
You mean i should say i just trust him before i give him life, and trust him when he asks to join my party?

Aerie or Viconia you say.. humm.. which one is less annoying? lol and for Imoen i really dont want to cheat.

Yes, he is referring to the oath of allegiance that Sarevok offers to swear when you bring him into the party.

Aerie is certainly not as well suited as Viconia for adventuring, at least temperament wise. However, she is probably more *useful*. Being able to put those cleric spells in her contingencies and triggers is nice. And not getting smacked by Holy Smite doesn't hurt.

All four NPC 'clerics' are nice to have around, though. I usually have at least 2 (my first ever party ended up with 3!).

Sarevok is the only NPC who has a non-romance-related personal plot in ToB. He'll have several conversations with you and eventually make a decision about his future, which you will get to advise him about. He doesn't affect the plot, per se, but he does contribute to it.

You don't need to wave every time, mate. You know that you won't leave...

When you bring Sarevok into the party he will offer to swear an oath. If you want his alignment to change, don't make him do that. Later, you need to choose the good answers during his interactions is order for him to change.
I would even say that for me Aerie was a better choice. I didn't find her romance dialogues too annoying, they were more funny and unrealistic. She's very good with a Holy Smite/Horrid Wilting combo...
Btw, I didn't consider editing Imoen to be cheating. I really didn't like the thing that she was a mage. But the programmers needed that in order to get the plot going. I already had myself, a mage and Aerie and I really needed a real thief. So I just gave Imoen Yoshimo's skills and level...

i think sarevok is a pretty shoddy fighter compared to my pc Corbulon, but i suppose he's good for the plot and a good fighter for an npc. hes fun to use though. may the brothers of blood slice and dice theyre way to the throne!!

If you insist on not cheating (terrible word, I think customizing is a much more appropriate word). Then you really do want to keep Sarevok. TOB makes fighter types a lot more powerful than they got towards the end of SOA.

up against demogorgon, up to my neck in his glabrezu summons (about 15)

my pc and sarevok were the only ones left standing

my pc was confused, imoen, keldorn, minsc and viconia dead

sarevok on 15 health, but *still* alive thanks to his deathbringer assault and vorpal hits using ravager

take him, he wont let you down

In BG1 outside the Flaming fist barracks you are told by sarevoks lover that he was good on the inside but the influance of Bhaal has made him act the way he does and pleads with you to let him live if possible. So it is feasable for him to be good.

Well, the fact is that the change in Sarevok's alignment isn't that much of a change at all. Yes, it says "Chaotic Good" there, but his interactions are the same as those before the alignment shift...

Yeah; I changed him and he still keeps *****ing about how we're a poor match because Im too much of a do-gooder.

On the Sarevok good/evil on the inside thing, what about the second challenge in hell?

It is implied that were the PC in Sarevok's shoes (ie left behind by Gorion and adopted by the iron throne) and vice versa, that the PC would be the evil murder afficionado and Sarevok would be brought up under the watchful eye and benign influence of Gorion and thus (assuming you play a good PC) good.

Wow, my first post.
Evil is good. I have always enjoyed having Sarevok in my party because of his 2H Sword skills. When I got him to 5 points in 2H Sword and 2 in 2H Weapons I dualed him to a mage.
Now he casts stoneskin on himself, immunity to magical weapons AND he wears that +5 elven armour (that gives immunity to normal weapons) and off he goes for a few rounds. The opal jem thing for his helmet that gives and extra intelligence helped a lot too.

welcome to the boards o'magic, dan the disgruntled. sarevok is the best npc fighter that ever walked. i know, i know, all you minsc lovers will be out there saying "ooh ooh look at me, boo and i vill keek your evil doeenk butts" and all that, but jus look at his stats. and his proficiencies. and his pure ability to just kick the arse off any creature in faerun in hand to hand combat (besides your pc, of course). he has a stat total of 95. yes, 95. thats better than any roll ive ever done. and i dont think anyone wants to hear about all you people out there whove done better rolls than that. make your own post.

the fact that you can help change his alignment is completely plausable. he has, after all, a piece of your soul (which was brought up by gorion in the humble town of do-goodersville, mind you) and that recently posted piece of info about his lover saying 'he's good on the inside'.

i think that sarevok is one of the most well thought out npcs in the series, and even though you may want to dual him, i suggest you dont, as #1: it will lower the amount of levels up he gets to becoming the best fighter in the game and #2 neither of the dual class choices fit his character.

well... thats just my opinion...

I have to agree with corbulo87. Saravok is much better than Minsc at fighting. I still like Minsc, but I just had to repalace him when I first saw Saravok.

All this praising of Minsc and Sarevok in here... When I'm done with SoA, my berserker buddy Korgan will prove a much more valuable tank then the both of them combined. Bah!

:rolleyes:Ya right. Minsc or Saravok could kill him so easily. They could probably take out your whole party.

Well, I just started with TOB and the first thing I looked at when I got Sarevok was his class. I was a bit disappointed that he's a pure fighter, as I had expected fighter-mage --- Unless my memory fails me, he DID cast spells in BG1 didn't he?

RythmicBarbarian
Thu, 8th Nov '01, 4:38am
That's better... At least you could dual him yourself.

Currently, i'm dualling that nasty bastard as a mage. While his grooming process has been seamless, i must say that to get him up to speed with the rest of the group as well as his own fighter level is turning out to be a monumental task. I like a big party, so experience is becoming a factor in this game. Moreover, i'm getting bored of re-entering the firegiant lair just to open up a can of whoop ass on mystically appearing giants ad infinitum. Dualling Sarevok will one day produce a warrior of great power, but he might die of old age before this happens.

Corrections Corbulo! Sarevok IS the best ever fighter in the game. Only he has the deathbringer assault ability, which makes this big bad war machine even more awesome. Though he doesn't have his Bhaal essence any more he is a power to be feared I'm sure.

Just to try it out, I gave Saerovak the secret tank armor and weapons. (Good thing Extremist is banned from the TOB board) He did some searious damage in that thing!!!! It was quite fun to whatch!!! Yes, I wholeheartedly endorse the slightly crack brother of your protaganonist, as a party member!
Luckily I had Aeomen in my party, so he was Mr. Bye-Bye!!!

I'm hoping i get a chance to recruit a few more of my siblings. So far i have sarevok, sis, and me. Maybe i can add a testy fire giant to my party. Sarevok rules, especially if you like hearing him diss fellow party members. Best thing since kelgorn.
