Is an archer a good class to start a new game with in Tob, and what are the good bows.
Any info would be nice.

Archers are excellent. They deal out an average 20 damage per shot at 4 attacks per round.
You'll find some great stuff for him in watcher's keep, like the bow Taralash. With the gauntlets of improved weapon expertise they get 1/2 additional melee attack and start to excell in melee as well.

Unfortunately some items I favour for my archer are from SoA, like shadow dragon scale, Jhor the bleeder, manabow, girdle of inertial barrier, ring of gax, bracers of lightning strike (giving improved haste = 8 attacks), flail of the ages and so on - so I'd rather recomment to play BG-2 SoA before.
