Edwin and Imoen!Who from this two are better mages?I mean Imoen get some extra spells like Edwin?And what is the diffrence betwen Imoen and Nalia?Does Nalia get extra spells?What is that stupid belt Imoen has at the beggining of the game?And that collar Edwin wear?Can I get some good answers?

No-one beats Eddy in terms of extra spells, even you - the Bhaalsaga.
But Immy indeed has some advantages, she can disarm trap and lockpick, and she cast a lil faster than Eddy

The amulet of Edwin grants him 2 extra spells each lv
The belt Immy has at the beginning isn't stupid, it's a godly item that everyone wants to touch (even the Demogorgon :shake: ), it prevents wearer getting killed. (only mindflayer can kill her I think :) )

I tried killing her as a Mindflayer, it didn't work :(

Edwin IMO is a better mage, but if you want a straight out melee party, it's better take Imoen (or Nalia). This way, you'll have only one "weakling" in the party. If you take Edwin and the PC is not a thief, you'll need a thief as well, and Yoshi can help only so far...

Yes, the belt that Imoen has in Chateau Irenicus prevents here from being killed; it would be really silly to have her die in Chateau Irenicus only to see her alive and healthy in the rest of the game. Once you meet up with her in Spellhold she is no longer essential and that is why she no longer has the belt.

As Minh So said, Edwin's amulet gives an extra two spells of each spell level. Combined with his being a specialist mage means he is the most powerful spell caster available to you. Give him the Robe of Vecna and the Amulet of Power and watch him churn out the spells.

As to who is better, Edwin is the better mage but Imoen has the thief skills making her more versatile. Your choice as to which better fits in your party.

As to Nalia and Imoen, there has been debate on these boards about them before. As spell casters one is not better than the other in the way Edwin is better than all other mages. Some favor Imoen because she has better theif skills than Nalia. Some prefer Nalia because of her ring (a very nice item) and the fact that you can get her so early in the game that she can get an XP lead that Imoen cannot close. Some choose between them on the basis of their personalities. Whatever works best for you.

I tried killing her as a Mindflayer, it didn't work Erm, I've just killed her with shapeshift mindflayer + time-stop, she falls after 4 hits. Someone please confirm this ?

@Khemsa : Edwin can't wear the amulet of power, that's why I said Imoen can cast a lil faster than him.

I've just started a new game and unleashed 4 Mindflayers on her, she died all right.

Baldurdash and official patch installed. Phew...

EDIT: Irenicus dungeon, I killed her there, of course

Now I'm curious. Did her picture grey out but remain in party or did she disappear from party?

Her pic greyed out. She is in the party but she is dead.

Thanks for the shout out Takara, but that was probably the worst elimination style poll that I did. The subsequent ones were much better - that's why that one got locked down.

Anyway, here are the benefits of the three mian spell casters.

Edwin: Gets one extra spell per level for being a specialist, and two extra spells per level for his amulet. As has been said, this is three extra spells for every level, making him the most powerful of the spell casters bar none.

Imoen: Even though she is not a specialist, she does get one extra spell per level (I don't know why this is). Also, as a 7th level thief she does have moderate find traps and lockpick skills making her far more versatile that Edwin, who is strictly a mage.

Nalia: Does not get any bonus spells per level. She also is only a 4th level thief, as opposed to a 7th level thief like Imoen, meaning her thief skills are mostly sub-par. However, since you can get her from very early in the game, her mage levels will usually be 2-3 levels higher than Imoen, unless you're willing to run off to Spellhold as soon as you get enough cash together to rescue Imoen.

Imoen: Even though she is not a specialist, she does get one extra spell per level (I don't know why this is).Aldeth: You've said this a number of times, and I think its even in your NPC guide, but I don't think its true. I just checked it at game start, and Immy is an 8th level mage, and has 4/3/3/2 just like she ought to have at that level. I don't have an advanced save with Immy in it to check to see if it changes after Spellhold for some reason, but I don't think it does.

I does change after Spellhold. I haven't played with Imoen for a while, but I remember her getting two level 7, 8 and 9 spells as soon as she hit that level. I suppose it's possible that I'm wrong, but it's nice to see that at least someone has read my review!

Sorry, Aldeth. Couldnt remember the name of the ones you did last year. Even so, a bad poll from you is vastly better. ;)
