View Full Version : Some questions concerning imprisonment
Meatdog Sat, 27th Dec '03, 10:29pm I know about the tactics using an enraged berserker/barbarian and using Spell Immunity: abjuration. I also realize that if you can't be targeted (invisible or almost invisible) it doesn't work on you and that the Slayer is immune to it.
So now come the questions:
1) Does MR affect imprisonment?
2) Are there any other methods to protect oneself of imprisonment except the ones mentioned above?
3) Does Spell Immunity: Abjuration protect everyone or only the caster?
Sir Ai Rayzor Sat, 27th Dec '03, 10:36pm 1) No idea - but I dont think so.
2) What about the Shield of Deflection?
3) Only the caster
Beren Sat, 27th Dec '03, 10:39pm 1) MR does squat against Imprisonment.
2) You can also use a Scroll of Magic Protection. Freedom scrolls will also free any Imprisoned characters.
3) Spell Immunity: Abjuration only works on the person casting it.
Leslie Sat, 27th Dec '03, 10:58pm 2. A high level Shield of Archons works (only once though). Also Spell Trap.
1. and 3. already answered ...
Blackthorne TA Sat, 27th Dec '03, 11:43pm You can also run away while your buddies kill the thing targeting you. I did that a few times with the Elder Orbs. As soon as one started toward me, I knew what was about to happen :)
Meatdog Sun, 28th Dec '03, 12:02am Is there some spell that your mage can cast on your melee fighter to protect him? This would be nice since until now the only decent spells mentioned are always arcane and i'd like to be able to protect a character against imprisonment while still being able to carry and Balduran's Shield and being good at melee. And this without using Minsc, Korgan or Haer'dalis or playing a fighter/mage protagonist (I don't use mods for the moment so no Solaufein).
Rastor Sun, 28th Dec '03, 12:58am There is no spell that is not self-only that protects against imprisonment.
If you want a neat trick, use Spell Turning. Your enemy will end up imprisoning himself and you'll get the loot for nothing.
Shield of Deflection won't do a thing against imprisonment, neither will magic resistance. Spell Trap will stop it though.
Scythesong Immortal Sun, 28th Dec '03, 5:24am 2) I've heard that one of the thief HLA's (avoid death or evasion) actually grants him invincibility against Imprisonment. I'm not sure in this account, though looks more like a bug than anything.
Meatdog Sun, 28th Dec '03, 10:25am So apparantly Slayer change will be the best option if I play a monk. Now a slight of topic question: how many times can you become the Slayer, is there any limit to the number of uses? I thought I saw somewhere on the boards somebody saying you can only become the Slayer thrice, is this true?
@ Razor
I wouldn't try that tactic against elder orbs since they are mostly accompanied by alot of (insert name of little green eyeballs that I don't remember the name of).
Baronius Sun, 28th Dec '03, 3:13pm If you use the ability Slayer Change, you will use 2 point of Reputation each time.
This ability can be used once per day (it regenerates during rest).
If you are in Slayer form for a longer time (never counted it), your character starts taking damage, always double (5-10-20,...)
About Imprisonment:
Magic Resistance does not affect the wizard spell Imprisonment (It should).
However, the Demi-lich Innate Imprisonment is highly dangerous, and MR does not protect from it.
And the lich has infinite number of that ability.

Sorry for not being more explicit in my question. I meant to say that I read that after becoming the Slayer three times you were lost to the taint and lost your humanity (or elfishness or ...) and that this meant game over. I was wondering if this is true or if you get unlimited changes without other penalty then the damage and the reputation loss.
Wildfire Sun, 28th Dec '03, 7:53pm Nah, you can use it as many times as you like, provided you like having a low reputation/have a lot of money to donate.
Sarevok• Sun, 28th Dec '03, 8:26pm Slayer is good with evil alignment and then rep drop will not matter ;x
