spoilers below... warning.. and these may technically be a ToB question.. but they have to do with SoA + ToB 'update'
two questions:
1. any way that I can NOT get the protection from normal weapons at the end of SoA (and still stay GOOD)? I HATED this effect when I played ToB.. it completely hides your character.. and please, an alternative other than 'take the evil path and make your character evil'. maybe that is the only way, however
(Extremist--I especially request your help as I can stand that... evil program)
2. question 2-- I heard a rumor that there may be a way to get to spellhold and not help either the thieves OR the vampires.. anybody with any info?
btw--I am replaying as a LG monk with my trusty sidekick Jan.. but I forsee problems with level drains and no way of 'restoring'.. any good suggestions for this problem (without having to pick up a cleric)?????????????

I believe the "effect" you are talking about (the white sphere around you right?) is caused by the change they made to the Cloak of Mirroring, not your protection from normal weapons...
Take off the cloak... :)

1 - There is only the good and evil way - nothing else.
2 - I've heard a rumour that the paladin's will now take you to spellhold, but that's only a rumour. Try it out for yourself if you like.
3 - The only solution to that is to cart around lots of restoration scrolls with you.

Have you done watcher's keep yet, I found a katana there that lets the wielder cast lesser restoration once per day.

thanks for the info.. I am a complete idiot if that effect is from the cloak of mirroring...I won't be able to bang my head against the wall enough times.
that means the good v. evil point is moot now..
thanks for all the info!

The cloak of mirroring has nothing to do with the protection from normal weapons affect. That comes from doing one of the things in hell the good way and you can get around it by importing your character to ToB before he gets the bonuses. The cloak merely gives a spell turning affect.

They changed the Cloak of Mirroring so that rather than spell turning, it performs spell deflection.
The consequence of this is that the graphical effect shown on the character wearing it changed from a solid white disk under his or her feet to a force field-like sphere. I found this effect to be rather annoying, and a lot of people have complained about it.
That however didn't keep me from continuing to wear it! :)

Actually, I don't know the exact new effect in ToB...
Yet, here's what I know. It is possible that new version of old cloak is just planted in OVERRIDE folder. So, check it. If you see there a file named:
CLCK26.ITM
just move it somewhere else, and your old cloak will be restored.
But be warned! I really don't know what is in ToB files since I don't have it. So, don't delete that file I mentioned - just remove it to another folder and keep it safe in case it is needed.
Of course, if the file exist.

The cloak of mirroring in either form, in addition to being annoying visually...is way to overpowered. There is not any reason to wear that thing. Much like the Celestial Fury or Carsomyr....they're just out of line with the rest of the game.

Moved to ToB forum... In the future all BG2+ToB questions should be posted there, no matter what part of the game they deal with.
