It took me a couple time through SoA before I was able to solo that one, but with a MC F/M/T solo was no problem...what a very strong character. Well, I figure if ToB is solable it won't be a F/M/T because even with 8MM exp, you can't get lvl 9 spells and they seem to be needed during my experience thus far. Well a M/T can get a couple of lvl 9 spells and the most excellent thief special skills also but lacks the combat ablity of the F/M/T so a solo jaunt would be difficult. I'm betting if ToB can be completed solo....a halforc C/T might be the class to do it, but I wonder and ask for input...once you get Use Any Item, does your cleric class still restrict your weapons? Also I wonder if there is ANY cleric weapon with which you could get a backstab? Hush, we all know a sorceror would be logical choice to solo this one.

normally you can only do backtstabs with piercing weapons, if it works with a hammer it must be a bug :p

you know.. realistically speaking.. you could backstab someone witha hammer.. its "backstabbing" but without the stabbing, but the principle is still there coz you're still hitting him with a surprise attack from the back.. if it can work.. it wont be a bug coz its logical

In SOA, the thief could backstab with any melee weapon he could use. Backstabbing with a quarterstaff seems weird, but if I recall correctly it did work. Now, backstabbing with a mace or hammer for a C/T - I don't know (since those aren't thief weapons), but I'd be interested to hear.

Back to the topic - soloing with a T/M or even just some straight mage (or sorcerer) seems doable. With spells like Tenser's Transformation, do you really think you need the fighter portion of the multi-class? My sorcerer with Staff of Rhynn (or using Black Blade of Disaster, better yet) is a killer when Stone Skinned, Mirror-Imaged, Hasted and Tensered. Better still if it's just my projected image with all of that - what a monster. Throw in a few summoned skeleton warriors and a planetar or two and you have a *very* hard-hitting strike force. Why use up your valuable XPs on that fighter portion of your character?

I don't think you are going to solo much in what I've seen of ToB so far...maybe the sorceror could with frequent rests or wishes to restore spells...but a melee class is gonna be hard put to survive solo. The THACO of those badasses is really low. I mean in SoA with a -11 or -12 AC, I would almost never get hit and with regen and damage reduction gear, it wasn't important when I did....but in ToB, the pain gets thru.

Regarding backstabbing...I am unable to backstab with a wakizashi on a M/T multiclass which is supposedly a scimitar...thief weapon...I get a message that its not able to backstab. I was thinking only long and short swords, daggers and katanas were suitable for backstab. I will try an experiment with the C/T multi and see how it goes with a flail or a hammer or something blunt. I really like flails.

You will suffer! You will all suffer!

I didn't find mage spells all that important. The only spells i really used was energy blades just cause i was bored and they sounded cool. You could probably solo with a paladin since they can summon devas or be a multi class ranger cleric.

I just ran some tests on a C/T MC halforc and it can backstab with the quarterstaff, but I forgot to test the club. I would guess since the club is a thief choice also, that it can backstab with it. The mace, flail and hammer aren't permitted to backstab. It was interesting to me that this character gets to chose dart as a proficiency. I don't think any other clerics can use them can they?

Nobody likes to dual a F/M. you only lose one level off the mage if you take Fit to 9th. 9/30 F/M sounds pretty inviting to me.Slap a tensers on that and those extra support spells(stoneskin, mirror image, etc.) and you got a monster.Any combo with the Thief looks real good with use any and assassinate.

As far as I know the general rule is clerics don't get darts but druids do.
