My top 3:

1. Dragon's Breath (just so powerful)
2. Summon (Fallen) Planetar (wouldn't have got through the game without it)
3. Abizagal's Horrid Wilting or Time Stop, I quite like Comet too.

Dragon Breath has its uses (like vs demi-liches) but that's one I could readily do without.
Chain contingency and improved alacrity are much more powerful imo.
With Time Stop, contingencies/triggers, and improved alacrity, you can release about 20 spells instantly!

My top three:
1. Commet
2. Bigby's Crushing Fist
3. Time Stop

Combine all three in a row: 3,2,1; and you get nice results! :rolling:

Hmm, read this (http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=001181#000000). I think you will find it quite familiar.

As for this
1. Improved Alacrity
2. Summon Planetar
3. Comet

If you have the robe of Vecna, it's hard to beat Improved Alacrity. You'll be able to cast the majority of your spells instantly. Spells like Magic Missile and Chain Lightning have a cast time of zero with the robe, and with IA, there is no gap between casts. There isn't really even a need to cast Time Stop. You've gotta be careful, though... the engine gets a bit chunky trying to render those Magic Missiles, Chain Lightnings and Horrid Wiltings all at once.

Without the robe of Vecna... I'd say the Planetar spells are the best. Seeing those things in action makes you wonder why you have fighters in your party. Oh, I remember now - for the witty dialogue =)

1. Dragons Breath (relativly short casting time, plus it can knock swarms of enemies away from a vulnerable character i.e. your mage with his protections down)

2. Time Stop (just need to make sure that the character isn't imune... heh, made that mistake with Demogoron... oops...)

3. Improved Alicracy(sp) (well, combined with a time stop, you can pretty much do anything to anyone in the game at your lesure.)

I am a Sorcerer, level 31th, core rules

1. Time Stop + Improved Alacrity
2. Dragons Breath
3. Summon Planetar
4. Chain Contingency (3x Pierce Shield, useful against creatures with high magic resistance)
5. Abi Dalzims Horrid Wilting

Gladiator

To be honest, Dragons breath surprised me in how good it worked. Also liked Planetar, let one of those loose, and it can clear a level for you.

1. Time Stop.
2. Power Word Kill.
3. Wail of the Banshee.

For entertainment after I finished the game I would start slaughtering the people of Athkatla so #s 2 and 3 came in handy.

For some reason, my cheated Edwin killed Adalon with two Dragon Breath  .

Dragons are very vulnerable to Dragon Breath. :) .

It is a high-level mage spell if you are a level 1 mage ;)

Undead Sorcerer

1. Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting
2. Time Stop + Improved Alacrity
3. Spell Trigger (2 Lower Resistance & Cone Of Cold or 3 Magic Missles).

Abi's Wilting....o yeah...

Unless there's been a change in the game that I don't know about, Horrid Wilting, Time Stop, and Spell Trigger are not HLAs. While I'd agree that those are pretty nice spells in SoA, Magic Missile is pretty worthless in ToB, as enemies will resist several of them. Time Stop + IA is really great if you've got the (cheesy) Robe of Vecna and the Amulet of Power.

I fail to see how either of those items are cheesy.

I never said the amulet of power is. Also, have you tried using Improved Alacrity with the Robe of Vecna? You can cast spells instantly and with no delay between them. That seems way overpowered to me.

Honestly, no I haven't. If I need time to get multiple spells fired off, I have triggers, contingencies, etc easily available and they work equally as well as IA, if not faster.

Well, I am probably a very anomalous one because I NEVER used either Time Stop or IA while playing the game.

My faves have to be

Abi Dazim's Horrid Wilting
Comet (Or whatever it is... been playing FF games lately...)
Dragon's Breath

Nothing beats Abidazims... nothing.

timestop+improved alacrity(sp?) is too powerful IMO. especialy with a sorcerer (lots of damagin spells) decrease spellcasting time items it can release terrible damage all over the place(dragon's breath, comet, Abidazims, sunfire few fireballs) and Boom everybody lying dead on the floor.
Edwin could easily solo whole place of firegiants without a scratch.
