Hi,

I am in chapter 5 and was playing though the underdark section last night when I came across a rather odd thing.

I found an orb with several sections on it that could be activated. Each section released a person who mostly turned hostile and forced me to kill them. From their dialog it appeared they had been imprisoned by drow.

One person who appeared was a drow mage (?) called Raevilin Strathi. We had a communication issue and it ended in a fight. I took him down farily easily with breach and spell thrust from aerie and imoen and damage from my fighters. He died - I saw the "Raevilin Strathi death" message and got 20K xp I think.
However, although his body was present there remained a small chunk of him still casting spells. It was spinning just above his body and was casting various protections and minor offensive spells. I used a dispel from keldorn to take down the protections but
I could not pick up his stuff and could not target this chunk. Aerie summoned a nishruu and this could attack the chunk.
After a few rounds I got another "Raevilin Strathi death" message and 974 xp.
I could then pick up Raevilins stuff, but still had this spinning chunk sitting above his body. The nishruu could not target it anymore.

I finished the orb and went off to complete some quests. Haven't returned back to the orb yet to see whether the spinning chunk is stil there.

Has anyone else seen this before?

I have SOA with TOB installed and the latest Bioware patch. I also have fixpack 1.12 from baldurdash installed.

Cheers,

WittyNewt.

I've seen it as well, but that was way before the ToB-time, so it hasn't got anything to do with that.
I just avoided the spinning piece of flesh and went on. :)

Same thing happened to me in Brynnlaw (or whaterver itīs called) when i killed the mad mage. I was to pick up his stuff and run like hell to awoid his fireballs from beyond the grave.

What happened is that you killed him first, but left a mislead copy of him. Killing a mislead is always worth 974 xp, so I assume that is what happened. Probably a bug that he was invisible, but I doubt the spinning chunk had anything to do with it. I have often had a Mislead keep casting (low level only) after its "Parent" was dead.

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation folks, the mislead sounds like the solution, surprised that the dispel didn't get rid of it (keldorns double level dispel as well), but that maybe due to its parent no longer existing.
The spinning chunk sure was funny, I guess a minor buglet of the game, its a shame they only implemented standard chunks, a spinning head would have been amusing.

Your initial post has quite puzzled me, but I'd also guess that it was a mislead spell...

It happened to me in the Planar Sphere in my first time through the game, I killed Tolgerias rather quickly with some well worked tactics and got the chunk.

I'm pretty sure it was a bug connected to Chain Contingencies that has since been fixed.

Happened to me with Raevilin in the underdark, too, on my last run-through. I'm not so sure it's a Mislead problem, since the chunk was STILL there during most of my time in Usta Natha...every time I'd walk past the area for some reason, I'd get "enemy sighted", and there would be this...spinning chunk. :) WAY past the duration of a Mislead spell, although of course, the bug could have easily prevented the spell from cancelling, for whatever reason.

Pretty funny, actually, especially since it wasn't casting any spells (I guess chunks run out the same way liches do), although it DID try to follow me around and do physical damage (it couldn't). I toyed with just leaving it there spinning forever, but, not wanting to litter up the underdark, I finally took it out with an Incendiary Cloud. :D

Yes, I even submitted a Screenshot of the Week on that once, when Viconia got charmed by a spinning chunk. It also happened to me with that wizard in Brynnlaw.
