View Full Version : Weapon names
jbigdaddy Thu, 31st Jan '02, 4:09pm Ok I'm creating a custom Katana for evil characters and trying to find the right name is difficult.
A little information on some of its powers, it has a chance on the killing blow to steal some of the opponent's soul. Resulting in some kind of stat or thaco increase. So with this in mind I've been trying to think of a name and looking at the weapon names in TOB.
Names I have thought about using,
Devils Own
Green Destiny
Devil's Advocate
Hand of Bhaal
Soulblade
Deadly Sin
Soulforge (as I love Dragonlance)
Any other good names you can think of?
Do you like any of these?
Which TOB weapon names do you like?
Jack Funk Thu, 31st Jan '02, 4:26pm How about "Big Daddys Stick"? ;)
jbigdaddy Thu, 31st Jan '02, 5:26pm Has a ring to it, but doesn't sound evil. :)
jesper898 Thu, 31st Jan '02, 7:45pm soulsucker:)
Deathmaster Thu, 31st Jan '02, 8:52pm How about some of these
Dredd blade
Ex Con
Devil's play toy
Soul skinner
Hell's Fury

Shura Sat, 2nd Feb '02, 4:55pm How about Messatsu No Kenma, Demon Sword of Slaughter?
fungus Sat, 2nd Feb '02, 6:19pm Try Suelothvar

Deathmaster Sun, 3rd Feb '02, 12:54pm Heres another one
Ultrakoolmegagiantdemonvampirezuperslayingchaoticg enocideblade
jbigdaddy Sun, 3rd Feb '02, 5:23pm How high does your lore need to be to identify that sword, or your INT to even read or even pronounce it?
Deathmaster Sun, 3rd Feb '02, 11:01pm your lore would have to be about a million.
i will say it slowly for all the rejects out there.
Ultra kool mega giant demon vampire zuper slaying chaotic genocide blade
i hope that makes much sense, but to really to confuse you, here it is backwards.
Edalbediconegcitoahcgniyalsrepuzeripmavnomedtnaiga gemlookartlu.
Now how do you pronounce that?
Will Mon, 4th Feb '02, 12:39am Soulblade, eh? An old (but wicked) game. "The gruelling battle ended with the victory of ... Cervantes. (Heavy breathing) Offer your spirit...." Heh...
But I digress ... How about giving it some sort of background and attaching it to a character? Then it could have a name like "Kujiro's Spirit Flayer" or whatever, obviously changing the name according to what you call the weapon's previous owner/creator/victim etc.
jbigdaddy Mon, 4th Feb '02, 3:04am Mmmm sounds good Will!
Deathmaster's Ultrakoolmegagiantdemonvampirezuperslayingchaoticg enocideblade
ShadowDaemon Mon, 4th Feb '02, 8:45am Hertzdurst - any germans care to translate?
Coldfire - Sword of Gerald Tarant of... cant rememer WHAT books he's in, oh yeah, The Coldfire Trilogy!
Red Smile - What they offten call a slit throat
Blood of the Innocent - just sounds cool
Arabwel Mon, 4th Feb '02, 8:49am Searer of Souls
How about that?
Ara
(Stomach... hurts... schhool... hurts... I am starting to repeat myself here...)
McWeasel Mon, 4th Feb '02, 3:35pm Hurtzdurtz
That just has a real nice sound to it. I mean, if you're not German, and you say it, you wonder, 'Am I pronouncing this right or what?'. Create a background, and perhaps a character to go with it, that way you'll have an awesome all round weapon. Some of those weapons that you buy from the Bonus Merchants have just an exeedingly LAME backing. In ToB, there is also a serious lack of storyline. Top marks to Lilacor to have a full one!
jbigdaddy Tue, 5th Feb '02, 5:44am Are there any famous swords in the FR?
If so which are worth recreating?
Drasar Tue, 5th Feb '02, 3:26pm I was thinking "Souldrinker" or "Soulsucker" would be a rellly cool name for it.
Red Baron Thu, 21st Feb '02, 9:23pm Hertzdurst (spelled correctly Herzdurst) would mean Heartthirst translated straight although it wont make sense in german right away ;)
If you want to go that line what about 'Herzensbrecher'?
It would usually mean something like breaker of hearts and most would picture a guy leaving lots of crying women behind but if you think of a weapon....

Z-Layrex Fri, 22nd Feb '02, 9:21pm How about "cry of war" or "Redemption"

Mathetais
(trying to figure out why Arabwel does this, brain hurts)
creudzfeldt-jakob Sat, 23rd Feb '02, 2:35am Die Hand Die Vertlezt.
50 imaginary bonus posts who can figure what that means. (but it's not a particulary good name for a katana, but perhaps an evil weapon  )
Red Baron Sat, 23rd Feb '02, 2:57pm Die Hand, die verletzt
The hand which hurts/wounds - yay! 50 points
what did I win? :)
creudzfeldt-jakob Sun, 24th Feb '02, 2:32am Yup. Imagine yourself as a Gibberling now, and 15 more posts to become an imaginary Kobold. :)

Sicarius Sat, 13th Apr '02, 10:11pm How about something in Latin? Can't think of anything at the moment. But there must be some famous swords in Greek or Roman mythology. If i could just remember some.
I hope someone else knows more Latin.
Euh...
Heh, what about ferrum Sicari, meaning sword of the stealth assasin. Or something like that.
Israfel Sat, 13th Apr '02, 11:20pm Well, I don't recommend Latin, it's not very suited for fantasy. All military words make you think about armies, not heroes. I once went through a period of insanity and tried to create a text-CRPG in Latin. It really sucked - no decent name.
Greek would be far better, also because it attaches words like German. I suggest "Psykeros" (ie "soul-love", which makes sense if you remember that the Greek considered love nothing more than desire)
Sirdan Sun, 14th Apr '02, 8:37am How about
Xenomurxicon?
Vukodlak Mon, 15th Apr '02, 12:51am In the great tradition of pixieprick:

Arabwel Mon, 15th Apr '02, 12:35pm Mat, you know I have to take revenge on you at some point?
But on the other hand, LOL!
There is another suggestion that just popped to me:
Sickness of Soul?
