[This thread is a follow up to the How bad can you be (http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2881) thread.

The protagonist is a NE Jester who is neither dumb nor psychopathic, I'll start right from the beginning in Candlekeep. I'm playing Easy Tutu with a few mods including the NPC mod, unfinished business and Finch. I hope you'll enjoy reading about him so with no further ado...]

-->Meet Olath Faern (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Olath.jpg?0.5904284378665141) He is a young half elf, little more than a child himself. His pale face and his grey eyes look sad. His face is marked by a bitter smile. He is busy throwing pebbles at Nessa, Drepin's cow when the latter is not watching.
In his youth he spent most of his time in Candlekeep's library learning many stories and tales. One day he found an old manuscript entitled "The Dark Book of Hellish and Cunning Pranks." This book changed his life. He learned that magic and a sword were not the only weapons at a bard's disposal. He learned about the art of the jester to ridicule his foes and to vanquish them with a deadly song.

As the years went by, the young bard grew weary of living in such a secluded place and he spent less and less time with his foster parent. Instead he would listen to tales from distant lands from the travellers and readers who stayed at Candekeep's Inn.

1 Mirtul, 1369
Candlekeep

This place is a prison. A golden cage filled with useless books. I'm suffocating in here, how I wish to see the realms and leave these walls.
I'm so bored. There is nothing to do but chores and errands that are so beneath me. Drepin wanted me to get some potion for his cow from Hull. What an idiot! As if I had nothing better to do. I wish I could leave on a quest or something. Fuller gave me some gold for killing the rats in the warehouse. Enough for a pint or two, not enough to get really drunk and stealing from one of the nobles staying at Winthrop's alehouse is not an option. I can't afford being caught, the guards were very clear last time, being Gorion's ward won't save me again. Perhaps that would be a solution. Make a mistake and make it big so that I should be bannished from hence. It's a tad risky but it would be worth it just to get away from here. I have to take matters in consideration.
I met a gnome cleric named Finch who seemed to know quite a bit about the seer Alaundo. She told me she was getting ready to leave Candlekeep. I wish I could say the same.

Later. I've just seen *my* father. Gorion told me we had to leave. He refused to tell me why but gave me a paltry sum to buy some equipment. The old man is such a miser! He is supposed to be such a powerful mage he should have a stash of magical weapons somewhere. I guess he's just another pompous jerk like Tethoril and Firebead. This place is crammed with useless monks and would be mages, I'm so glad I'm leaving. I'll miss my friend Imoen though...

Much later. I've been attacked... twice. Parda seems genuinely concerned about me but luckily for me my assaillants didn't know how to hold a blade. I've never killed someone before and oddly enough I don't feel bad about it. It isn't what I had expected. It actually makes me feel more powerful than ever! Anyway they had it coming!

Rolling back his scrolls and putting away his quill, the young bard picked up his serrated blade still stained with blood and without a look behind him went down the stairs towards the entrance of the library where Gorion was waiting for him.

Running away from Candlekeep Gorion (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Gorion.jpg?0.5851615316075355) and his ward were attacked by a party of ogres led by a terrible warrior clad in steel.
Escaping from certain death, Gorion's ward met his friend Imoen.
Together they went back to the place where Gorion had fallen.

"I guess he wasn't such a powerful mage after all..."

"How can you say that?" Imoen was shocked by the harshness of her friend's words.

"The rationale behind my statement is that no fighter, as powerful as a fighter may be, can be more powerful than a mage unless..."

"Unless?"

"Unless the mage runs out of spells or the fighter has some protective magic at work shielding him from the more lethal spells that could kill him outright or enslave him."

"So, you're telling me that this fighter was THAT powerful?"

"Come on Imoen, don't fret, he doesn't seem to be anywhere near so there's nothing to be afraid about right now."

"When we used to listen to Gorion's tales I never thought that real adventures would be like this, I mean, scary. What are we going to do now?"

"Gorion told me that some friends of his were waiting for us at the Friendly Arm Inn. So I guess it's as good a place as any for us to start."

Olath Faern smiled. He was outside of Candlekeep and for the first time in his life he enjoyed true freedom. Only one thing marred his mirth, the fact that a huge warrior capable of defeating a mage like Gorion wanted him dead.

Rummaging through Gorion's possessions, possessions that the mage would no longer need, Olath Faern found a letter signed by a mysterious "E." Khalid and Jaheira, Gorion's friends were mentioned in that letter as well. Judging by the letter they wouldn't have answers but would be ready to help. And help was badly needed.

damn... I knew I should have worked faster on Tiax' quest materials. This is refreshing - and a good perspective for seeing the Shadow versus the Light.

[Many (not so random) encounters later] :p

Xzar and Montaron (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Xzar_and_Monty.jpg?0.08636366499896786): Two shady characters. Imoen doesn't like them at all. But we have no choice and need all the help we can get. The halfling has a murderous streak. I shan't sleep soundly tonight nor tomorrow. The mage is certainly demented and his laughter unsettles me. I'm going to part ways with them as soon as I find Gorion's friends.

We met an old man on the road. There is something fishy about him. He seemed to know to much. I had to silence Imoen she was getting too talkative. She can be so trusting and naive sometimes. I don't like Montaron's looks. He means business and I don't think he cares much about Imoen. I wonder why Xzar and his diminutive fellow started this partnership. There is clearly no friendship lost between them.

The crossroads are crowded! We have another companion. His name is Eldoth and he is a bard. He has a plan for making a fortune by helping a noble girl to escape from her father. I can relate to this but I don't feel like risking my neck in such a daring enterprise. I don't know why but I'm sure he hasn't told us everything. I really don't like the way he looks at Imoen. If our situation wasn't so desperate I would ditch him promptly but since he has agreed to accompany us we're now a little band and my chances to reach the Friendly Arm safe and sound have increased quite a bit.

The Friendly Arm. Well it wasn't so friendly... I was attacked by another assaillant. This time it was a mage by the name of Tarnesh (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Tarnesh.jpg?0.7591472103150133) . I wouldn't have had much of a chance facing him on my own. Xzar killed him with a necromancy spell, stealing his life energy. I must learn that spell! Back to the matter at hand, I must confess that it's even worse than I thought. That mage was a bounty hunter. A good thing that I did conceal the note from Eldoth's prying eyes. I don't trust the fellow... 200 coins of gold would certainly tempt him.
I'm offended. Whoever has put a bounty on my head is going to suffer for this outrage. My head is worth more than 200 gold!

I eventually got to meet Khalid and Jaheira or Jaheira and Khalid for it is quite clear that she is the boss. She is such a bossy woman that I wonder if I hadn't made a huge mistake and whether I should have stuck with Xzar and Monty. Well at least I know that with Gorion's friends to watch my back I don't have to worry about getting a dagger in my spine during my sleep. Well, if Khalid is worth anything as a warrior. I must say he doesn't strike me as the most imposing or intimidating fellow. He's so easy to mock that it isn't even fun. I've got to be careful around Jaheira though. She has quite a temper and she doesn't look like she can be fooled as easily as her husband.

I did some sneaking around in the inn. It's really large and I got a few trinkets as a reward for my efforts. A nobleman thought I was picking up the laundry, the conceited fool, he gave me a pair of Calimshan golden pantaloons (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/the_pantaloons.jpg?0.6050455274284811) I must say I find them particularly becoming.

It was fruitful to chat with the locals since I learned many things about the area. We went ogre hunting south of the inn on our way to Beregost. Khalid is a much better fighter than he looks (well the opposite couldn't be true anyway and I'm sure our opponents won't take him seriously which will most certainly be a good thing for us).
I cursed the dwarf who told me about the ogre. He was supposed to have stolen one belt and I found two magical belts on his corpse. Since I could identify neither of them I told Jaheira to put the largest one on. Something quite unexpected happened.

"Olath I thought you had identified this belt (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/girdle.jpg?0.45903522305776334)!" Jaheira's voice had changed as her body had turned into a male body and Khalid looked in shock at his spouse.

"Ohhhhhh that must be a girdle of Masculinity Feminity Jaheira!" Imoen's eyes were wide with surprise.

"We need to get to a temple as soon as possible... I can't stay like this!" Jaheira's words were filled with anger.

"Don't wo-worry Ja-Jaheira We will find a cure." Khalid stammered helpless as usual.

"I'm sorry Jaheira I made a mistake I thought it was safe. But don't fret those enchantments are reversible most of the time." Olath couldn't help giggling.

"What do you mean most of the time?!"

"Well that's what Gorion taught me. Jaheir, I mean Jaheira." Olath couldn't help giggling.

"I don't find this particularly funny!"

"Sorry but you have to realize it could have been much worse, you could have turned into a squirrel, a mink or a chicken."

"A chi-chicken, you are not se-serious!?"

"I'm sorry Jaheira but I have to agree, this is funny." Imoen couldn't help looking at Jaheir(a)'s masculine body in a female outfit.

"Silence girl, keep your comments to yourself." Her voice was hoarse and manly.

"Listen to her, she is the man..." Olath whispered into Imoen's ear making sure the druid couldn't hear him.

[Thanks for your comments, you're too kind! Anyway here is another update.]

Silke (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Silke.jpg?0.5949113562978209) . A wonderful woman and the easiest 300 gold pieces I ever made. Jaheira remonstrated but she was still riled up about the cursed belt. I choose to ignore her comments. Come on, Feldpost's thugs attacked us didn't they? She is bound to feel better since the curse has been lifted.

Fate moves in mysterious ways. On our way to Nashkel we ran into a group of xvarts (I hate the little blue monsters) and slaughtered them with ease. It turned out that they were attacking a farmer and his cow (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/the_cow_situation.jpg?0.8544257954750033). It reminded me of the fool Drepin and his bloody cow. Well fate had decided that I had to save a cow one day. It's not such a grand destiny... Although it was purely accidental on my part it helped to assuage Jaheira's feelings after the incident with Silke in Beregost. Anyway I checked and it was clear that the farmer had nothing but dung to offer as a reward for saving him. A good deed is never unpunished.

We eventually got to Nashkel. There we met a silly gnome by the name of Quayle at the Festival. Since he was utterly hopeless I decided to kick him out. Jaheira didn't seem to mind though he was getting on her nerves as well. Or maybe she was just upset because of that ogre, the berserker type, the one who caved Khalid's head in. It's going to be fun watching a cleric trying to put his brains back in. Not that Khalid ever used them much.

I made the easiest 200 gold pieces ever. Some silly bloated guy mistook me for a bounty hunter named Greywolf (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Oublek.jpg?0.5534357319788916). I already knew that I struck a dashing figure with my scimitar and my cloak, but 200 gold pieces are well worth a little lie.

I may have misjudged my *friend* Jaheira's reputation. Berrun Ghastkill recognized her right away. We are to find out what is happening in the mines. I never liked tunnels that much and the fact that the catacombs in Candlekeep were off limits hadn't bothered me that much either.

We ran into the largest man I've ever seen (except perhaps for the armoured man who murdered Gorion). This stranger told us his name was Minsc (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Minsc.jpg?0.3239777194437863) and that he was on a quest to rescue his witch Dynaheir. He seemed deranged but certainly not demented like Xzar. He is always talking to his hamster. This inbred imbecile may be an idiot but he is as strong as an ox and he provided me with the perfect excuse to delay our visit to the mines...
After all saving his witch is indisputably a matter of life and death and even Jaheira had to comply. Especially after all the trouble we went through to carry Khalid's body to the nearest temple.

[Hé, hé, it's not Minsc who is in danger...]

I had a dream (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/dreams.jpg?0.2280171277760763) about Gorion, when I woke up I felt different. I realized I could steal some energy from my foes. I wonder how I came by this power and what other powers fate has in store for me.

On our way to the gnoll fortress where Minsc's witch is detained we met a man called Jared who asked us to rid him of a bear (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/the_bear_situation.jpg?0.44043799509223114). It was amusing to see Jaheira's inner struggle. To her, considering her ethos, killing the bear was wrong but we had to cross the bridge. I made sure that the fight with the bear couldn't be avoided, after all Jared had promised a reward. It wasn't easy for Jaheira to accept the fact that we had to kill it. I taught her a lesson. But I learned one two. Jared gave me 50 gold pieces for the task. Only 50 gold! A real disgrace! It's a good thing I managed to steal a pair of precious boots from his bag when he wasn't looking. It doesn't pay to be honest in this world.

17 Mirtul, 1369.
We ran into a celebrity today. We were slaying gnolls when a certain Drow interrupted us to ask for help. There is a certain irony in being asked for help by that so called *hero*... I eagerly complied. Now I can boast that I actually saved his hide from a fate worse than death at the hands of an army of gnolls!

Once the battle was over I pushed him a little. I wonder how he came by such a reputation for I swear he is certainly not as tough as he is said to be. Disappointing really when you come to think of it. Anyway it was quite fruitful since I managed to surreptitiously lift one of his scimitars from his very scabbard. He is such a pansy, he didn't even notice what I was up to. I wonder how he came by his name and fame. I'm glad I did take it for it's such a fine weapon and I'm certain to put it to better use.

Anyway it's certainly awfully nice of him to have given it to me as a thank you for helping him fighting those gnolls. I bet Jaheira would agree. The craftsmanship is excellent.

...

So we rescued Dynaheir. She is a good looking woman but I have misgivings. She won't look kindly on my misdemeanours like Imoen, she isn't honour bound to help me like Khalid and Jaheira and she can't be tricked like Minsc. I'll have to get rid of her and to make it look like an accident if I want to retain Minsc's services. The befuddled ranger has proven very useful ever since he joined us...

Poor Minsc, no matter what he looses Dynaheir. Tis his fate in life.

Caradhras
Tue, 10th Apr '07, 5:23pm
On the road we were accosted by a very strange fellow (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Foreshadow.jpg?0.7691656189676401) who told us nonsensical stories about Neverwinter and Waterdeep. With all the dangers that plague the Sword Coast I wonder how this fool could travel so far safely. He mentioned a certain Lord Ribald, I wonder who that man is. I've read enough about the Realms to know quite a bit about famous lords and ladies and I can't remember ever reading that name.

Dynaheir died at the hands of a skeleton that ambushed us on our way back to Nashkel. I moved away from the fray to bind her wounds. She was almost dead when I reached her and she croaked before I had a chance to really interfere. I knew what I had to do. Since nobody was watching I deliberately mangled her body to insure that no cleric could ever resurrect her. Nobody noticed what I did but it was close. When Misc realized what happened he was furious and I fear his mind may have been further unhinged by this trial.

Minsc has been despondent lately. If it weren't for his hamster he would have gone completely mad. In his state of weakness he is just like clay in my hands. I'm confident that his despair can be turned into rage and make his berserker fury even more potent and even more uncontrollable. It's like playing with fire in a middle of a forest when the weather is dry and hot. It's well worth the risk. Without his witch Minsc can't possibly go back to his homeland. Left to his own devices he would most probably starve to death or get into trouble because of his violent demeanour. I now have the perfect slave to protect me and do my bidding.

We ran into a group of bandits. It was good to see that Minsc's grief at the loss of his witch didn't take the edge from his heavy sword. I heard that there were bounties offered for every bandit killed so I took a knife and scalped them to start my own private collection (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/new_collection.jpg?0.6732189103238189) . Imoen was disgusted. Khalid as usual was ill at ease. Minsc didn't really care. Jaheira was about to remonstrate but I made myself clear. We certainly can't afford to be prissy. We need money if we are to help the widow and her orphans...
I forgot to mention that I was the chief orphan and the only orphan I'm likely to be concerned about!

Back in Nashkel where we planned to bury Dynaheir fate smiled upon me. As if by chance I ran into a Red Mage (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Red_wizard.jpg?0.5628088247065652) of Thay who was actually looking for Dynaheir... To kill her. He was really happy to see that his foe was dead and even happier when I showed him the corpse. I got 81 gold pieces to repay me for my endeavours. I must confess that I already knew that Thayvians were not to be trusted but I didn't expect them to be so good at haggling. This particular Red Wizard is certainly no exception. Anyway a gold piece is a gold piece.

Now Jaheira has started to pester me again with the mines business. There's no helping it, either I comply or we shall go our separate ways. I would get rid of her if it weren't for her healing spells and her stuttering but nevertheless sturdy husband. I fear that I may need them both by my side if I run into yet another bounty hunter. I've already been attacked three times since I left Candlekeep...

Back to Beregost I stopped at Firebead Elvenhair's house. I knew he hadn't been upfront and I thought I'd push him to get to know what he was holding back. Minsc was here to back me up.

"Look Minsc, this Firebead mage is EviiiiiiL! I know for a fact he likes to torture little furry animals like Boo! We can't let him live, now can we?"

It wasn't easy to refrain him from killing the mage outright but even the sight of Minsc in his fury wasn't enough to make the old mage talk. Too bad for him. Jaheira made a scene about him though.

"How could we trust him? This mage knew too much! Look at the book he gave me... 'The Dead Three' that's ominous... Anyway he started his spellcasting when I went back to talk to him. He must have found out that I was unto him and that I wouldn't let go. Look Jaheira, we didn't have a choice... Minsc and I had to take him out, it was between him and us. Right Minsc here is a little crumb for Boo, isn't he such a cute little space hamster? You know what, hold that thought, but we have to find out what's going on in the mines. Sorry Jaheira, did I interrupt you? You were saying? Right, we really should get moving, the iron crisis is of the utmost importance you know and we have to put an end to it."

Before we left Beregost we met a very strange gnome by the name of Tiax. He claims to be a cleric of Cyric and he is clearly insane. I accepted to *join* on his unholy quest to conquer the world. I find his megalomania so refreshing and he is the only one who consistently laughs at my jokes. When I come to think of it he laughs even when I don't tell any jokes. I never believed much in clerical power, I'm more inclined to delve into the arcane myself but it can't be bad luck to have a priest with us, albeit a short crazy one.

Jaheira doesn't seem to relish the presence of our new companion, she relented though when I told her that it was better to keep him where we could watch him and use his powers for the greater good. She bought it. My cunning never stops to amaze me.

I'll have to clean up my act she is suspicious and she hasn't acted yet because she isn't sure that it wouldn't be a terrible mistake on her part. Her doubt is my strength and I'll be sure to make the most of it.

My dear companion Tiax started a new collection (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/skull.jpg?0.684595408054108) of his own. It's so endearing to watch him aping me. I'm growing fond of the little numbskull, he never ceases to amuse me.

[Well, for a start he is NE, not CE. So he is not a raving lunatic. The most evil deed so far has been killing Firebead but at that point his reputation was still at 6. I decided not to give money to temples, it doesn't feel right to me for that game. I guess Jaheira has doubts but she has promised to watch over him and now she may be watching him as well... Here is the next instalment:]

We finally got to the mines south of Nashkel. There we fought the bounty hunter Greywolf and we got hold of some nice stuff when the famous artist Prism died. His last words were about some elf called Ellesime (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Prism.jpg?0.41434389120021053). The name does ring a bell and is vaguely familiar. It's a pity I don't have access to the library to refresh my memory. Imoen can't help me she never cared that much about books although she seems to have developped a very odd interest for Tarnesh's spellbook. I don't know if I should encourage her, she is useless enough as a rogue, she might be even worse as a spellcaster. One day she may amount to something. In the meantime I have to make do with what companions I have.

We stormed the mines without encountering any dangerous foe. We freed an elf (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Xan.jpg?0.47294885019281596) . I've never beheld such a puny whelp. I could have killed him to put him out of his misery but I thought that letting him wallow in his despair and live on his pathetic existence for a little more was a better punishment. I got hold of his moonblade but it won't let me wield it. I need to find a way to unlock its powers.

Tiax greatly enjoyed slaying the blasphemer Mulahey, the cleric who ran the operation down the mine. But that follower of the Dark Sun was not at the bottom of this conspiracy, somebody else is pulling the strings of this puppet show.

Back in Nashkel we ran into a widow (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Joseph.jpg?0.9743610672662669) whose husband had disappeared in the mines. I never met with so much ingratitude...

We were attacked by another assassin, one called Nimbul (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Nimbul.jpg?0.05681889820756303) . I found another note on his corpse. At last my enemy is taking me seriously! I AM dangerous!!!

Anyway we went back to Beregost to find the half-orc Mulahey's accomplice, a *mage* called Tranzig. We got rid of him very easily. It seems the person responsible for the iron crisis and for the attacks on my person are the same! The plot thickens!

This adventuring business is starting to be profitable. We're becoming famous, even kids in Beregost know who we are. There must be a way to make some gold out of this fame.

The old man we met on the road introduced himself. It's Elminster! I'd wager he is the "E." who wrote the letter that sent us on our way with Gorion... Therefore he must know Khalid and Jaheira although they didn't acknowledge knowing him.

There is only one explanation. Gorion, Jaheira and Khalid must belong to the secret society known as the Harpers or the meddlers. If that is the case I have to be careful. I don't want to be a pawn in their games...

We left Beregost and went North to find the bandit camp. In the woods a dark elf asked for our protection. As if I cared. I don't need a useless drow who can't even fend out for herself in my party!

I had another strange dream. It was so real. I was back in the mines. My power is growing I can feel it... I don't know what is happening to me but it's exhilarating.

Khalid fell during the battle outside the camp, he was slain by a fierce warrior in a heavy plate armour. The final confrontation was rather disappointing. Our foes were certainly not up to the task. Their chief, Tazok, wasn't even there. As it turns out he is but a minion of a greater foe. Our next target is the Cloakwood. Somebody named Davaeorn has the answers we seek but the real puppet master is called Sarevok (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Sarevok.jpg?0.5880366894393629) ...

We took Khalid's remains back to the temple at the Friendly Arm. Elminster (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Elminster.jpg?0.15896772592414177) was waiting for me there. He was as cryptic and mysterious as before. I won't fall into his game. He claims neutrality but I believe he's to blame for the situation as it is. If he was so righteous and *good* why didn't he tell me what he knew? He is wilfully keeping me in the dark and I see no reason to confide in him.

I had a chat with Tiax (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Tiax.jpg?0.8788903825913347) . His crudeness is refreshing and it's a great joy to have him with us, if only to hear the others complain about his presence in our midst...

I had another very strange dream. My power is growing so fast. I desire it but I'm afraid it might consume me if I'm not wary.

I ran into some other groups of assassins in the wilds. They were no match for me.

We collected 5,000 gold for the head of the mad cleric Bassilus (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Bassilus.jpg?0.46338760082046293) . Tiax relished the killing. He hates blasphemers who are unworthy to worship his deity with a fierce fervour.

I did some ogre killing but got no reward for my efforts. I was really angry. But the dwarf Sarhedra got away before I could get my money. This hero job is definitely not worth the trouble. Such ingratitude...

I decided to explore Durlag's tower. The dungeon was well guarded with battle horrors and other monstrosities. Once we got inside we were able to collect some loot from the upper tiers of the dungeon. I freed a succubus named Kirinhale (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Kirinhale.jpg?0.7335286888937925) by trapping another dungeon crawler in the tower for all eternity. It's too bad that once she was free she didn't give me any reward! It would seem that a succubus is not to be trusted. I won't fall again for such a cheap trick, that's for sure!

That put me in a rotten mood and I didn't look kindly at the halfling thief who tried to steal my purse in Beregost. I also got into an argument with Silke, I'm afraid that the late thespian extraordinaire won't give any performance before the Dukes in Baldur's gate.

[Thanks :) ]

Since I was in no hurry to get to the Cloakwood I decided to explore the Sword Coast. We met many interesting folks there and we rid the Realms of many fools.

Two of these fools were Vax and Zal the self proclaimed fastest dart thrower. We also dispatched an Amnish hunting party led by Sendai a pompous southerner. Next was Borda a crook who tried to con us into buying dubious magical wares.

We slaughtered an entire Xvart village and it was a lot of fun to hear them scream as we killed them without mercy.

Many bandits fell under our blades: Neville and his hobgobelins, Zargal and his hobgobelins, Ba'ruk and his... hobgobelins. Bandits seem to like having hobgobelins as henchmen. I can't see why since they're not worthy adversaries.

We met a paladin named Laurel who asked for our help. I politely declined. It is not my duty to prevent another from attaining fame through valorous deeds or (as it seems more likely in this paladin's case) perish in the attempt.

I found a talking chicken who requested that we should take him back to his mentor, the mage Thalantyr. I did so and got 50 (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Melicamp.jpg?0.669014079697063) gold pieces for my efforts but I might have forgotten to tell the mage that the chicken was actually his *apprentice* it doesn't bother me however since I'm sure the mage will relish his next meal. I gave him a special recipe of mine: chicken soup with turnips (yummy).

I stumbled upon Laryssa and Brage and brought them both to justice at the end of my sword. Since I couldn't collect the bounty from the big fool in Nashkel I took Brage's corpse to the temple of Helm. Nalin was so grateful. It's always a good idea to have friends in the right places and it never hurts to be friendly with a high ranking cleric of Helm.

I struck an agreement with Gallor to steal some idol from an ancient tomb which was excavated by Charleston Nib. I got rid of the Doomsayer, an avenging spirit and recovered the idol. Gallor was so annoying that I decided to slay him instead.

We rescued Ardrouine's son from worgs at the abandonned lighthouse. She paid us a paltry sum, 60 gold pieces. I shouldn't even bother rescuing peasants. A noble would have offered a hefty reward. Well what's done is done.

I killed a fortune teller who was pestering me and a mad gnome who was insisting that I should give him some ring that I had found in a shipwreck. I'm starting to hoard a few cursed items, they might be useful some day.

I met a mage called the Surgeon who confessed being Davaeorn's brother. He assured me that he was not in league with my enemy. I decided to kill him all the same. One can never be too careful.

I'm getting annoyed with Khalid and Jaheira. Khalid is such a whelp. He is always complaining. It's not my fault that Jaheira is always running out of healing spells. I just used Larloch's Minor Drain on him to heal me, I thought they would understand. But they made such a fuss about it. It's a good thing after all that I didn't use Vampiric Touch. I wonder what they would have said. They're such bores...

We visited the ruins of Ulcaster, an absolutely charming scenery. Our travels led us to confront numerous foes: Cattack and his hobgobelins, Mutamin and his basilisks, Kirian and her adventuring party...

I enjoy killing adventurers and mages. Bandits are too boring, they can't fight properly.

I eventually found a way to get rid of the bothersome Khalid. During the night I coaxed him into using a cursed scroll of petrification. As a consequence and to jaheira's dismay he was turned into stone (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Stone.jpg?0.641644615976492) . The fool has his own statue now. Since many basilisks were roaming in the wood it was easy to put the blame on a monster on the prowl. Jaheira is utterly crushed by her loss. This is so utterly enjoyable!

We have a new companion. A fierce female warrior called Shar-Teel, she is mean and aggressive and a great addition to our *merry* little band. I don't believe she can be trusted but she is a mercenary and as such she respects wealth and strength. As long as she knows that I'm the master she should be fine. I'll keep up on a tight leash for now. She seems to have a total lack of respect for men. If she offends me I'll find some use for the Girlde of Masculinity/Feminity, that should give her some insight about gender and teach her a lesson if need be.

We met a ranger named Fahrington who gave us a cursed scroll, I killed him for this mischief.

There was a party of Red Wizards (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Red.jpg?0.9864736411822751) hiding in the woods. They seemed surprised that we found them. I was disappointed. I had expected them to be tougher than that. I cast a Fireball spell and we promptly finished them off with a few arrows. Red Mages are not what they're said to be.

We met Lena in a forest infested with gibberlings. She asked us to take Samuel to the temple of Wisdom. We delivered him to the Flaming Fist for 50 gold pieces. Jaheira was still grieving over the loss of her husband. I pointed out the fact that the man is a deserter and that such an offence shouldn't go unpunished. Am I the only one to believe in justice?

A crazy warrior challenged us to a fight. He claimed to be the best swordsman of the Sword Coast. He might have been. I stunned him with a spell and we slaughtered him. He was wearing some fine bracers of weapon expertise which I donned to improve my skills.

The Realms are filled with fools with an oversized ego. We met an ogre mage named Kahrk who claimed he was the most powerful of his kind. Fair enough he was powerful but he wasn't that powerful.

Shar-Teel seems desirous to know me better, I'm tempted. She is certainly not as pretty as Imoen but she is a real woman.

[Thanks for reading so far! I'd like to give the Shar Teel romance a try. The work that has been done on NPCs is awesome. It feels so 'right', so in character. I don't know the ins and outs of the NPC mod so I guess I'm in for a surprise. ;) ]

We explored the ruins under the Firewine bridge and discovered a passage leading to the halfling village of Gullykin. We met an annoying halfling lass by the name of Alora (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Alora.jpg?0.8075976358173533) . It's a good thing that she left because she was beginning to get on my nerves. I hate halflings they're so pathetic...

We were attacked by another group of bounty hunters. They were so confident and I enjoyed a great deal the diversion they offered. Their cries of agony and pain were delightful.

It seems Imoen is turning into a real mage. She seems to be a natural. I would have never expected her to show such prowess in the arcane arts. She isn't that good yet but it's very promising so far. If she lives long enough she will probably become a spellcaster to be reckoned with. Gorion would have been proud.

Shar-Teel doesn't get on well with Imoen. It's good because it keeps them both sharp, on the edge. In fact now that I come to think about this I don't believe Shar-Teel gets on well with anyone in the party. I can't say I'm surprised though. She has a loud mouth.

We fought a druid renegade. It appears that all druids are not as weak willed and benevolent as my *friend* Jaheira. This is good to know.

Our party went Ankheg hunting it proved an excellent training albeit a rather dangerous one.

I became embroiled in a rivalry between fishermen and a priestess of Umberlee. I decided to retrieve the relic (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/bowl.jpg?0.7991371169804842) and deliver it to the priestess. There's no way I'll ever work for peasants and fishermen, they're a complete waste of time. I didn't got anything from the priestess yet, but she promised me a reward. Debts are nevertheless meant to be settled, and the sooner is the better. The reward has better be munificent or else she won't find me very magnanimous.

[Well RL can be boring and time consuming... Not to worry, Olath Faern will return!]

So we made our way through the Cloakwood Forest. We ran into a hunter named Coran. He told us about a reward for a wyvern's head. I decided to get the reward for myself. No need to share it with such a whelp.

A nobleman called Aldeth Sashenstar asked for our protection from a ban of savages. By his looks it was obvious that he could pay us well so we complied. However it turned out he was facing a band of druids...

I decided to change sides. I looted the noble's corpse and found a handsome reward for my efforts.

The druid leader is one called Seniyad he asked for Jaheira's help. I was reluctant but Jaheira made it clear that she would leave if we didn't help him.

I wish I had another healer so I could leave this headstrong woman behind. Anyway I complied with a curt remark that her druid friends had tricked us into killing Aldeth Sashenstar. I hit a nerve since Jaheira doesn't share Seniyad's view on outsiders.

Boring tree huggers!

We went through a part of the woods that was infested with spiders. We met a man who asked us to look for his brother. I wasn't interested until he mentioned a weapon named Spider's Bane. I do hate spiders.

We found the blade and it's a very efficient weapon against spiders... It was hidden in the lair of a cursed creature named Centeol (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Centeol.jpg?0.4399103066455835) . She told us she had been cursed by some archmage. I forgot his name. It's of no consequence anyhow.

Eventually we reached the Shadow Druids hideout. We killed Laskal who mistook us for mercenaries affiliated to the Iron Throne. The enemies of my enemies should be my friends however it's not the case and we kill him all the same.

We killed the archdruid and his cronies.

In a cave we found some crazed Ranger training baby wyverns as pets (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Peter.jpg?0.9376682667926839) . He went down quietly.

In the heart of the woods we found the wyvern's lair. It was worth our time to hunt them and kill them, we received 2,000 gold pieces as a reward for a head (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/wyvern.jpg?0.951851156263752) from Kelddath in Beregost.

Back in the woods our path crossed Seniyad's and this time I got really bored. I got into an argument with him and killed him. Jaheira got mad at me but I told her that this druid was a killer and a murderer and that he had to be brought to justice. Of course she disagreed but my arguments brought doubt in her mind as to whether Seniyad was a threat or not.

Jaheira is certainly growing restless.

We found the secret mines in the woods. There we fought a group of mercenaries led by a man called Drasus. They died quickly and quietly. So many foes and not one to match us!

They were working for someone named Rieltar. We now have some clues regarding the identity of our foes.

In the mines I was able to help a miner. I was feeling rather generous (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Miner.jpg?0.3766695010459705) !

But then we met a slave named Rill who asked us for 100 gold to bribe the guards. I declined but Jaheira gave him the gold anyway... So I had to take some action (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Rill.jpg?0.882738237884993) to retrieve my money.

Hopefully she was too far away to see what I did. She's becoming a real nuisance!

We slaughtered the mage Davaeorn who was in charge of the operations. I found some scrolls about their operation in the woods linking them to the iron shortage. Davaeorn's apprentice, a puny mageling named Stephan, gave us some information about the mines. He begged for mercy. I killed him nevertheless.

I retrieved the key and we flooded the mines, drowning the last of Davaeorn's lackeys in the tunnels.

Then we headed back to the Friendly Arm. I had another strange dream. My power is growing day after day...

Now we can at last enter the city of Baldur's Gate!

BTW Caradhras, do you use your Jester's song ?

[Of course a bard has to use every option at his disposal! At lower levels the Jester song isn't that good however. Now it's beginning to pay off.
I have a hard time keeping the reputation above 3...]

At the gates of the city a man named Scar (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Scar.jpg?0.9687215325590228) hired us to investigate the Seven Suns. We're now working for the Flaming Fist. What irony!

I delayed our visit of the city for a little while. There was a problem with zombies, we got rid of the undead and received a small amount of gold. Farmers don't have the funds to hire heroes.

We visited the little fishing village of Ulgoth Beard. A dwarf asked us to find a dagger in Durlag's Tower. He promised us a hammer in exchange. I picked it from him when he wasn't looking. I'm not going to explore an entire dungeon to ingratiate an old senile dwarf!

In the middle of the village a pompous mage called Shandalar (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Shandalar.jpg?0.6609415320057471) assaulted us. He sent us to a mysterious island in the middle of nowhere to retrieve a cloak that belonged to him. There we fought many spellcasters who had gone insane after being trapped in that cold island.

Back in Ulgoth Beard we confronted Shandalar. We used some of the items we had found on the island to incapacitate him. I finished him myself, chopping him to pieces with my scimitars.

This revenge from the arrogant fool who slighted us put me in a good mood so I listened to the whining of a woman who had lost her son (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Therella.jpg?0.3355413652806335) and I decided to help a stranger by the name of Mendas to get a hold of maritime charts from the merchants in Baldur's Gate.

Finally I had a nice friendly chat with a rapscallion named Calahan. He provided me with some useful information (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Calahan.jpg?0.28960898747937003) .

It's time for us to head for Baldur's Gate...

[i]We barely entered the city when Elmister accosted us. The old coot claims to be neutral but he sure enjoys pulling his strins from afar.

Anyway I learned that the Flaming Fist is in trouble. The crisis is more important than we assumed and its consequences could be dire. The perfect setting for an ingenious rogue with great ambitions.

We met a representative of the local thieves guild, he introduced to the guildmaster. We did some work with the thieves. the two jobs we did with Darkwalk went smoothly and we have a mission to retrieve some artifacts. The pay is good and I always liked to work nights.

In the middle of the city we were attacked by Dabron Sashenstar who claimed we had killed his brother. Funny I don't remember killing him, but I killed so many fools lately I believe I might have killed him all the same. Anyway he seemed quite self confident and I didn't want to disappoint him.

Later on we were attacked by a spellcaster named Entillis Fulsom who claimed he knew about my father (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Entillis.jpg?0.45314418889023766) ... My *real* father. According to this mage my real father was evil. Am I evil? Who was this mage to judge? I seem to be embroiled in a mystery. Clearly Gorion knew much about my lineage. Elmister didn't tell me anything useful. I doubt Jaheira knows anything. She seems worried nevertheless. I'm free to choose my own destiny and I won't be bullied by all these goody two shoes and self righteous fools. I'll choose my own path...

A priest of Tymora asked us for help. he wanted us to save his child from the temple of Umberlee. I was willing to consider the matter but he had no inclination for negotiations (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/negotiation.jpg?0.19697772084039455) . A pity, a real pity...

We ran into some hassle at the Blade and Stars inn (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/inn.jpg?0.035965614135495594) . I wish we could have killed that innkeeper. I wouldn't have the Flaming Fist after my head for that though.

We worked for Ramazith and we got rid of his enemy the mage Ragefast. The pay was rather disappointing so I decided to eliminate Ramazith as well. Good riddance.

Near the mage's tower we encountered a large warrior who was quite a challenge for a change. Jardak could have been a real danger if he hadn't been caught unawares. He wore a very nice helmet. We were lucky enough that there was no dent in it after the beating it received.

Back to the docks we killed a basilisks in a warehouse and then we decided to rest a liitle. Unfortunately we got into a fight with some crazy (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Desreta.jpg?0.3758045366752978) warrior. She had some nice gauntlets. I gave them to Tiax, the little gnome needs all the help he can get if he is to *conquer* the world.

We also got into a scrape with a mage called Yago. I'm afraid it was all a misunderstanding. But why should I even bother?

I got into so many fights that I had to come to an agreement with the temple of Helm. I gave away a small fortune so that they could put a good word for me. The difference between offerings and bribes is a question of semantics.

I left Tiax and Shar Teel at the Blushing mermaid where we had a nice encounter with a brainless ogre, then we went back to get Eldoth. We *rescued* Skie from her family and then we went to collect the ransom money. I decided to collect the money on my own. I gave a little gift to Eldoth and Skie before we parted. A sort of wedding present, two engagement rings (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/rings.jpg?0.41488341803014617) . They're such a nice couple now.

After some haggling for a pint of De'Tranion's Baalor Ale we got the charts from captain Kieres and we took them to Mendas in Ulgoth's Beard. It turned out Mendas had some other assignment for us. I had misgivings and I decided to cast a spell to detect evil. I was right. Mendas was not to be trusted. He was some sort of werewolf, probably the very same beast which lurked at night around these parts. We managed to kill him with some difficulty since our weapons were almost useless against it.

We went back to Baldur's Gate and we investigated the Seven Suns compound. Dopplegangers had replaced all the merchants. Scar paid us well for this work and he introduced us to Duke Eltan who asked us to spy on the Iron Throne.

After a nice fight we got some information about the whereabouts of the Iron Throne leaders... They are in Candlekeep! Save for one named Thaldorn who begged for his life. I politely declined and we dispatched him promptly.

Before going to Candlekeep I decided to have a good night's rest. We went to the Helm and Cloak Inn. There we met some noble lady. She was awfully kind (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Sarah.jpg?0.2783076646099806) . 189 gold pieces is not that bad after all!

I made a friend. Gorpel Hind and his band of Merry Fools helped us to slaughter a group of pompous adventurers. We didn't even have to share the loot with Gorpel Hind. I wouldn't have shared with him anyway so it's good for his health that he isn't greedy...

We broke into the house of a mage named Degrodel (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Degrodel.jpg?0.46155123461437053) . He said he wanted to hire us. I decided to put an end to his threats. The house was very well guarded but we prevailed.

Pheirkas hired us to steal a cloak from a fat slob by the name of Algernon who was staying at Feldepost inn in Beregost. I got the cloak, brought it to the dwarf Pheirkas, got my reward and then I took back the cloak. Of course there was some new blood stains on it...

I had another dream. My power is growing I can steal the life force of living creatures. I have a power over life and death. Who am I?

Since I didn't want to brood I got back to work. We broke into Oberian's house and got hold of the artifacts. Of course Oberian and Shandalar's three daughters (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Delorna.jpg?0.0011192592424427161) were in the way so they had to go.

Back in the guild Resar tried to kill us but it turned out our fellow thieves sided with us. It seems that we have a family now. The guildmaster (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Alatos.jpg?0.7355027860986446) seemed upset though.

We interrupted a ritual on the second floor of the Sorcerous Sundries. The mages were angry until they died which didn't take long.

Later on we broke into Sunin's house. He (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Sunin.jpg?0.6635940040510081) didn't seem happy to have visitors. The rumors were true. He had some nice magic items...

Speaking of which I decided to pay a visit to a mage who had slighted me in the past. We travelled back to High Edge and visited Thalantyr. It wasn't hard to provoke him into fighting us. Exactly what I wanted. I got rid of him and of his flesh Golems. The loot was disappointing however. His most precious items must have been concealed magically.

In Nashkel I awoke a mage called Daer'Ragh from his slumber. He summoned some Phoenix guards. Fortunately I had enough Fire protection potions and scrolls with me.

In Beregost we went to the temple. Shar Teel, Tiax and I got into a fight with Keldath. When the others joined it was too late (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Keldath.jpg?0.020540929395045815) . I blamed Tiax for leading us into this fight.

"What have you done? Have you lost your senses?!" Jaheira was irate.

"Tiax rules and all the false gods shall tremble for Tiax will rule all!"

"Jaheira, I know this looks bad but when Tiax started to ramble, Keldath began to admonish him and he lost it..."

"This will not stand!"

"Silence you wench! Tiax is what Tiax does!"

"Hush Tiax you're not helping... Jaheira look the gnome is not responsible. He may have overreacted but he said Keldath attacked him nonetheless. What did you expect us to do? Stand by and let Tiax get killed? He is one of us. He saved us all in countless battles."

"I don't believe a word of this. I will stay my hand but from now on I won't let you out of my sight you horrendous gnome! I you stray but a little I will call nature's fury upon your head and woe to those that stand on your side. Do I make myself clear?"

"Tiax will not forget those words when HE rules..."

Since this last event occurred the atmosphere has been quite heavy. I decided it was time to go back to my home, Candlekeep.

There all was the same and all was different. it's only been a few months but I've seen and done so many things...

There is something amiss. Parda (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Parda.jpg?0.36481477919209904) told me that much and I found out that dopplegangers are taking over the keep.

I was really happy to see Winthrop (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Winthrop.jpg?0.12743154082770436) . He may be just an old fool but he was always kind to us Imoen and I. Besides it was clear that Winthrop is not a doppleganger. No doppleganger could be that stupid...

At last I got a chance to avenge myself and to get rid of an enemy who had plagued my childhood. I really hated her (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/die_cow.jpg?0.03348808999258901) .

The Iron Throne leaders were in the library. A man named Koveras has been spotted in the hallowed halls of Candlekeep, according to Karan he was reciting the prophecy of Alaundo. That is strange. I shall be wary.

I finally got to meet Koveras (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Koveras.jpg?0.4455049974417744) . He knows too much about me. Way too much.

The Chanter told me about the secret catacombs beneath Candlekeep. I knew there was a secret, I didn't know that the crypts beneath the keep were the final resting place of the Seer Alaundo. The Chanter told me the catacombs were trapped and warded. Not to be trifled with.

Shistal has been replaced by a doppleganger. They are everywhere!

I made a very important discovery. Gorion had left a letter in his rooms. He told me the secret of my lineage. I am a... Bhaalspawn! That explains the dreams and my new powers. I now have the power to claim my father's essence through murder and bloodshed... It's written in the prophecies of Alaundo that there can be only one Bhaalspawn.

Tiax reacted in the most unexpected way. Cyric and Bhaal were not allies during the Time of Troubles, quite the contary in fact. Tiax seems to believe that it is his duty as a cleric of the Black Sun to watch over me and make sure that Bhaal's essence remains in the void...

Jaheira told me she didn't know that. She said she would help me fight the taint in me. She seems to believe that the bad blood in me is to blame for some of the unsavoury deeds I have committed. She doesn't believe in free will but I do. I will not be bound by my destiny or my father's. I will forge my own destiny, I will use my new powers and I will subdue my foes but I won't surrender to Bhaal's essence. I am Olath Faern. Although I don't like the very idea of confiding in Jaheira, she might be the only one who can help me to master Bhaal's essence and not just be consumed by it now that Gorion is gone. I never thought I would actually miss him and yet...

Gorion also warned me against a man named Sarevok. The name is familiar. He is linked to the Iron Throne. This is no mere coincidence. Sarevok... Koveras. Can they be the one and the same? I have to find out.

We confronted Rieltar (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Rieltar.jpg?0.7325442160142986) and the Iron throne leaders and killed them. Jaheira pointed out that shedding blood in the hallowed halls of Candlekeep wasn't such a good idea. I had to agree with her.

The Watchers arrested us. Ulraunt told us he was going to send us to Baldur's Gate to be executed. Tethtoril (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Tethtoril.jpg?0.6876890283395718) sensed that something was wrong and he teleported us to the catacombs so we could escape and set things right.

[Thanks!]

We explored the catacombs and faced many dopplegangers. It didn't matter to me that they would take on the appearance of friends. I killed them all the same. In the tunnels leading to the surface we were attacked by another group of mercenaries. They (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Prat.jpg?0.2402026250727235) were expecting Sarevok. Well they got a nice little surprise. They had it coming.

The power of Bhaal is growing in me I can sense it. I must be the chosen one. The Bhaalspawn who will harness the power of the Lord of Murder.

Sarevok has taken over the Iron Throne. He is planning to become a Grand Duke. His motives are clear to me. He wants to create chaos and bloodshed to get closer to the essence of our father. I know now that he is a Bhaalspawn too. I will kill him and take what power he has.

I met Gregor, Brunos's son and Cythandria (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Cythandria.jpg?0.3194223806106603) , Sarevok's former consort. They are both dead now. I'm merciless in my quest for revenge.

We found Sarevok's diary. I learnt many things about my *brother*... He hired a couple of assassins to murder the Grand Dukes who could oppose him.

I killed the assassins in the Undercellars and got hold of the invitations for the ceremony at the palace.

We exposed Sarevok and saved Belt's life. I foiled his plans and he got away. But I'm breathing down his neck. He won't escape for ever.

Lord Belt teleported us to the Thieves Guild. Sarevok went through the Maze underneath the guild. According to Denkod it leads to the Undercity.

I must be careful. Sarevok is a great warrior he must have set many traps on his way down there.

At the end of the maze I met Winski Perorate, Sarevok's mentor. I finished him. Nobody will stand between me and my revenge.

In the Undercity we were attacked by a band of Sembian mercenaries working for the Iron Throne. They were after Sarevok. I won't let anybody else kill Sarevok...

...

It all ended in a forgotten temple (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Temple.jpg?0.8837617670924961) of Bhaal down in the Undercity. I was prepared to face Sarevok Anchev (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/Final.jpg?0.7115850581320655) . I was careful to stay away from his large sword. Powerful as he was he had made one mistake. He clearly underestimated me. I prevailed. Now Bhaal's power will be mine and nobody can oppose me.

Murder and mayhem. Sarevok's plans are doomed now so I'll have to make my own plans. After all am I not the saviour of Baldur's Gate? With Sarevok and his henchmen gone I'm free to become the real master of the Sword Coast...
Nobody can thwart my plans for I'm Olath Faern the Bhaalspawn, THE NEW LORD OF MURDER!!!

Brilliant! :thumb: Rather hasty end, but it is evil and cool at the same time! Congrats!

Heh, you do not have any mods, mainly SCS, righto? For example that red mages were painful when I battled them, and all other battles were wee more difficult, ofcourse, for the quality of writing, you can't just 'quick-load', or due the fact that you are a very skilled BG player... :heh: :thumb:

Umm, do you plan to continue on SoA and eventually, ToB? It would be fun!

Thanks. It was a bit "hasty" because at the end whether you're good or bad doesn't change the course of the game much and I meant to explore the evil path. You still get to foil Sarevok's plans and kill him.

I play on 'core' (AD&D by the book) I don't like mods that make the game impossible or too challenging. I don't like cheesy tactics and I don't like overpowered items either. I won't judge SCS because I've never tried it but I enjoyed my last game a lot and although it was modded it had no such "improvements".

I've been playing IE games for years and I rely on many different tactics and use almost all the abilities that my party members have. I know what the spells do. I know where the enemies are and I know what type of spells I should expect. That's a real advantage: forewarned is forearmed.

That's why I gave my NE Jester a very high WIS score. Anyway his comments on the Red Mages (for instance) is not a reflection on my part about my game ("dude I totally pwned those Red Mages!"). It was Olath Faern's comment, reflecting HIS arrogance and growing self confidence (not mine).

I hope I answered to Silverstar's questions adequately, sorry about the ranting, here are Olath Faern's stats (http://site.voila.fr/allianceleste/SOA.jpg?0.8991209445955486) . He will return! :p

I'm Olath Faern, a Bhaalspawn. I was the hero of Baldur's Gate and then I grew greedy and overconfident. Things were going to turn sour but I believed I still could get away with it. Perhaps I could have. Now it doesn't matter. I never saw them coming. Some dark figures cloaked in mist captured us. Powerful magics were at work. I couldn't tell that nightmare from reality. When I finally awoke I was trapped. My memories are still hazy. But I remember the pain, the searing blades and knives. Torture. And I remember the face of my captor...

Imoen managed to break free. We soon found a way to free our companions. Misnc and Jaheira were unhurt but the others were nowhere to be found. We have no idea about the location of our prison or the whereabouts of our jailor.

Without equipment our chances are not that good however...

The *man* who captured us his experimenting, we found one of his servants in a jar (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Rielev.jpg?0.8276673034109886) . He wanted me to put him out of his misery. I could see no incentive for doing so. Anyway it didn't matter that much since Imoen offered him the release he yearned for. She is too merciful. Well she doesn't have the essence of Bhaal coursing through heir veins and her soul. I'm hearing the call from the Abyss. I have to find a way to master it. I was never trained to harness these powers like Sarevok was...

Later, some dryads (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Dryads.jpg?0.23698766794272286) told us the name of our captor. The man who trapped us is a mage by the name of Irenicus I owe him a great deal of pain. I will find him and get my revenge. But first I have to get out. The dryads wanted us to free them. I had no time for this. Jaheira began to remonstrate. She is weak. The dryads could sense this but they made one mistake, they captured Minsc to force us to help them. It gave me an excuse to slaughter them. I had to free Misnc. I need his strength to get out of here.

I know that Jaheira is unhappy about this course of action. But the dryads shouldn't have tried to force my hand. I won't let anybody manipulate me. Come what may, those who try to make me serve them shall feel my wrath!

We found a flask on their corpses. I identified it as a djinni's flask. These creatures give three wishes to the one who possesses their flasks.

A bitter disappointment. Malaaq the djinni didn't give me three wishes. But I got Sarevok's blade back from him. Our captor must have sold most of our equipment.

This dungeon is filled with goblins, gray dwarves and mephits. We battled a crazy woman who said that the mage was her creator. We must be wary. I exposed a doppleganger, I know their tricks I have killed so many of them in the catacombs in Candlekeep. There is a guild war going on, the Shadow Thieves have attacked the compound and their intervention allowed us to break free. It's a pity that they wouldn't listen to reason.

We found a group of thieves battling a vampire. I have heard many tales about these creatures. We managed to defeat it but I'm not sure this will prove permanent as it turned into a bat and flew away.

We met another prisoner, a man named Yoshimo who was trapped like we were. He seems to be willing to help us and he has proven his worth already. According to him we might be in Athkatla, the city of the Coin. Amn is a long way from Baldur's Gate and I know that spellcasting is considered to be a major felony there. We shall see.

Once we got out we found the mage battling thieves and wizards. It turned out that his spellcasting was drawing magic wielding enforcers. Imoen cast a spell at him and they were both taken by the wizards. I believe it was part of his plan. Irenicus is not a foe to be trifled with.

Yoshimo was right, we are in Athkatla. Jaheira has been here before. She directed us to Ribald Barterman's shop to buy some supplies. Our paltry equipment will not be sufficient if we are to fight such a powerful mage. I must find allies and money to buy some weapons if we are to get even with the mage and get Imoen back. She is the only true friend I ever had and although she may be weak willed and show too much compassion I won't let anybody take her from me. It is personal.

I used my talents to pick the pockets of the guards and nobles at the promenade. Then I went shopping. Galoomp the Bookkeeper told me about a halfling thief and I agreed to look into this for a reward of course.

In one of the inns of the Waukeen's promenade I ran into an adventuring party lead by an ill-tempered dwarf named Mencar Pebblecrusher. He abused me. I pretended to be frightened and lifted a few potions from his pockets. Yoshimo, Jaheira and Minsc got into position and we struck. I turned him into a squirrel and we managed to defeat them. They had some nice equipment that we could use or trade.

In the street a boy (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Giran.jpg?0.9628117146337762) asked us for help. He asked us to find his mother in the circus. Jaheira said we had to help. I relented. There seems to be some magic at work in the circus and perhaps we could find and use it.

In the tent we ran into an ogre (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Aerie.jpg?0.8377100979430252) with a woman's voice. She said she was a winged elf. She wanted us to give her a sword but she had nothing to give in exchange. She eventually turned on us and we killed her. She wasn't an ogre after all. I found the gnome (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Kalah.jpg?0.6606495734961548) who was responsible for the crisis. He didn't put much of a fight. It's plain to me that he had been tricked. A girl (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Myara.jpg?0.4780876990561653) ran up to us to give us the lamp he had used to summon a djinni. It all makes sense now.

Anyway we headed up for the slums. The streets are teeming with beggars (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/beggar.jpg?0.08380231249434633) and thugs. A Shadow Thief named Gaelan Bayle had a deal to make with us. He wants 20,000 gold pieces to tell me the location of Irenicus and the mage. I know when I'm being blackmailed. I don't like it but I have no choice for now. In the end I'll have to get even with the thieves as well.

We met another vampire who was battling some Shadow Thieves the fiend killed Minsc before I could defeat it with a wand we had salvaged from the mage's dungeon. The cone of cold killed the thieves as well. Too bad for them I guess.

We took Misnc's body to the temple of Ilmater (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Ilmater.jpg?0.9679814966034788) . It was expensive but Minsc's prowess in battle is priceless.

We went to the Copper Coronet it seems to be the right place to find some reinforcement and employement. I borrowed 5,000 gold pieces from a money lender. He won't see a copper of it. That will serve him right to exploit the poor and the bereft. I hope he will press his luck and confront us to get his money back, that should prove entertaining.

I found another companion. His name is Anomen (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Anomen.jpg?0.6031012319500964) and he is a warrior priest of Helm. I take him to be the type of self righteous noble who believes himself to be a hero but who has to much contempt for the rabble to be a defender of the people. He believed me when I said I was upholding goodness and justice. I'm certainly striving to get revenge and I certainly do care about my own good. He will probably prove a useful addition to our merry little band. Besides he is a noble from a wwealthy family and having him with us will certainly allow us to get introduced to the noble households. That's where the real money is.

A girl named Nalia asked us to save her father's keep from an attack. I told her to meet us there, if nothing better comes along I might help her. A lord asked us to rid his lands of monsters for 10,000 gold pieces. That's a hefty sum. I decided to go and check it out but I wanted to rest first.

The locals are not very friendly, I got to fight in the arena with a braggart and I met an old shrew (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Rumar.jpg?0.03669075276184153) who was looking for her husband. He is most certainly a very unlucky (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Priss.jpg?0.6313683491905058) fellow.

I had a dream about Imoen and Irenicus. The mage taunted me about my potential. It felt real enough. There is something disquieting about that dream.

A gladiator named Hendak (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Hendak.jpg?0.9497861484583996) begged us to free him. I agree with Anomen, these filthy barbarians are not to be trusted. I decided to inform Lehtinan. He was most grateful and asked me to make an example of the slave. I was happy to comply. Lehtinan rewarded us handsomely and he was clever enough not to remonstrate about the killing of many of his guards.

We explored the sewers under the Copper Coronet and found a magical weapon, the sword Lilarcor. We left the sewers through a secret entrance that led us right in the middle of the Slavers hideout. It's a pity they wouldn't let us leave peacefully. We killed them all and since there was nothing else to be done, I let Minsc free the children (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/children.jpg?0.1919202317330022) . Jaheira complained that I didn't give any money to the children. I shrugged. Giving them money would be a total waste, it could only encourage the thugs in the slums to beat them up and rob them. If they are lucky they can get to the temple of Ilmater, if not, I will not be held responsible for their fate. Anomen got into an argument with Jaheira, I didn't take part in it but I enjoyed their bickering.

I left the slums for the city gates. In the Crooked Crane Inn I found the rakshasa who was behind the troubles at the circus. The creature got away but I learned the name that allows to control the djinni bound to the flask. I summoned it and asked for one wish (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Jafir.jpg?0.05955726535578321) . Revenge is sweet indeed!

In the inn we found a secret passage leading to a tomb. There was a lich trapped there. The axe we bought from Bernard at the Copper Coronet saved us from the undead. I didn't expect to find such a powerful creature there. We must be careful in the future.

Once in the Government District we watched a mob busy with a drow (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Viconia.jpg?0.05160602546556303) . It seems that *good* can prevail even in the centre of the city. Anomen shared my enthusiasm and the bonfire (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Burn.jpg?0.4195420000720973) put him in high spirits but Minsc and Jaheira couldn't help complaining. As for me I do believe a good drow is a dead drow...

I visited the authorities and I agreed to help Tolgerias a high ranking cowled wizard. He asked us to track down a murderer by the name of Valygar Corthala. He said he could provide us with information as to the whereabouts of Irenicus and Imoen. I'd rather work for him. I don't trust him that much but it's still a better deal than getting 20,000 gold pieces for the thieves.

We ran into a deluded and misguided smuggler (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Jansen.jpg?0.5680637695953726) . I turned him in and got some gold. He said he would serve me if I was to get him out of jail. I might do that. I could find some use for another lackey and in some ways he reminded me of Tiax. I miss the silly gnome.

We were ambushed by a group of thugs. They had kidnapped and badly wounded a man by the name of Renfeld (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Renfeld.jpg?0.8238632261613812) . I didn't feel like helping him, it seemed to be such a waste of time. Anomen agreed with me but Jaheira started to complain once again so I decided to humour her. Perhaps there is some gold to be earned but I doubt it. Good deeds are not rewarded.

So we headed to the Docks. Yoshimo seemed concerned about running into trouble with the Shadow Thieves and he asked me to go and visit Renal Bloodscalp to set things right between him and the organization. There is no hurry.

I'm trying very hard to assuage Jaheira's misgivings. She is emotionally fragile and I can turn it to my advantage. I got a little present (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Jahaboam.jpg?0.15384172112054906) for her. She is still mourning her husband but she is vain. If I could woo her she wouldn't complain so much about the decisions I make. I'll just have to pretend that I care about her so she can serve me against her better judgement.

We took Renfeld to Rylock. I only got a paltry reward for my time. It turns out that Rylock is a Harper. At least that's what the Zhent necromancer Xzar told us. He claimed to know where Irenicus is. I don't trust him anymore than I trust the Harpers. He asked us to retrieve his bodyguard Montaron who has been caught spying on the Harpers. It seems I can't help being embroiled in their disputes (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Monty.jpg?0.39822596740671135) .

There is something fishy going on, it was all too easy to get into their compound. Jaheira asked me to get rid of the scimitar (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/scimitar.jpg?0.8591547233193163) I found in Prebek (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/scimitar2.jpg?0.0741892916356266) 's home. She wouldn't take no for an answer. I guess it's a little price to have her by my side.

I was right not to trust the Harpers, it was all a set-up. Xzar got killed by an assassin (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Lucette.jpg?0.8416062763166187) who had been turned into a bird and was planted in the aviary instead of Montaron. I got nothing for my efforts. Except for the loot that Yoshimo and I got from their compound.

I had another dream about Irenicus. In my dream he told me I had to seize what was promised me. I wonder, could it be possible that the mage is trying to unlock my divine powers to help me ascend the Throne of Bhaal? I can't fathom his reasons for doing so, but I'll make sure to take advantage of the insight I can gain about my own heritage.

We explored the tombs in the Graveyard. We badly need money and looting the tombs is an easy task. I can sense a great evil in some parts of the Graveyard though and I know better than going near certain tombs. It would be a perfect location for the vampires to rest during the day and I'm not well equipped to face the bloodsuckers yet.

A messenger came for Anomen. It seems his sister has been murdered. I shall help him to get justice and revenge. I understand the culprit is a rich merchant. There must be some swag in his abode.

We've entered the Bridge District. A killer is on the loose. The victims are poor and they are flayed. It's gruesome and I suspect some kind of ritual. They have nothing so it doesn't make much sense. I might look into it since there is a reward for the capture of the murderer.

I ran into the halfling thief who stole from the Bookkeeper in the promenade. I brought him to justice with the edge of my sword. Hopefully I'll get some scrolls as a reward for my good deed...

It was a bloody fight. Anomen slaughtered Saerk's daughter (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/innocent.jpg?0.6922344471645672) and then we butchered him. Only Yusef, Saerk's son got away. Jaheira was quite angered by this turn of events. It's too late now and Anomen has the blood of innocents on his hands. I wonder how he is going to react once he'll realize it. Revenge has a bitter taste for the weak willed. Perhaps I have misjudged him and he won't bother about the murder of Saerk's daughter. We shall see.

I had another dream. The power that Irenicus is offering is quite tempting. I shall gain power enough to slay him as well when time comes.

We visited Renal Bloodscalp. He had heard of me. It's always nice to know that your reputation precedes you. He had a task for us. We are to infiltrate Maevar's guild and bring proof of his treachery. That should be fun.

Maevar gave us our first mission. We have to steal a relic from the temple of Lathander (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/statuette.jpg?0.7080833707752637) . This job should be a walk in the park for Yoshimo.

Boo has disappeared. Minsc is having a hissy fit over it. I tried to calm him down but he insists that we should go back to the Docks and investigate Boo's disappearance. He is such a nuisance but I need his muscles and his lack of brains.

It turned out Boo has been kidnapped by a little urchin at the Sea's Bounty tavern in the Docks. The boy directed us towards a pet's shop. Boo had already been sold so I decided to get a replacement (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Boo.jpg?0.5442089670244904) . I bet Minsc won't tell the difference.

Smethy, the shop owner, teleported us away from the shop but he seemed to have miscast his spell since we ended up in troll infested marshes. We got back to the city but I'm getting tired of Minsc's whining. We have lost so much time already.

Maevar was pleased with our success at the temple. He told us to report to a mage in his employ, one named Edwin. I've met this Red Mage in Nashkel. I have little trust for his kind but I shall do what he asks for now.

We ran into a man from Jaheira's past. Baron Ployer harbours a grudge against the Harpers and he put a curse on Jaheira. She is feeling weak and we have no idea where to start looking for her foe. The Harpers are useless as usual. Jaheira suggested that we should visit Bernard at the Copper Coronet. I've taken too much trouble to win her over, I don't feel like letting her die now. Especially because of an old coot like Baron Ployer.

I asked the Cowled Wizards for information about the mercenaries that Baron Ployer had in his service. They approached me as we were leaving the Government District. I offered them 2,000 gold pieces to turn them on their employer. It's expensive but the look on Ployer's face will surely be priceless!

Ployer (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Ployer.jpg?0.18258078503446284) is dead (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Terrece.jpg?0.6556067755174712) and we are taking a day off to allow Jaheira to recover. We're wasting time but it can't be helped.

We were ready to get back to our adventures when Misc suddenly realized that *Boo* wasn't Boo when he found out that is was having Boolets. The curse of the Abyss be on Smethy's head! I tried to placate him but he left us. Good riddance! I was getting tired of his rambling. I won't miss the hamster but I should get a replacement nevertheless...

It's been more than a year since I updated this thread. I lost my save, it wouldn't load and I did try (copied everything from my old computer but still) and I finally gathered the will to start over SoA.

A good thing I kept this screenshot of my character at the early stage in Irenicus Dungeon. I SKed the Golden Pantaloons and the starting XP and stats from BG1. I lost many spells my character had learned in BG1, something I can blame Irenicus for!

Here is Olath Faern once again in Irenicus Dungeon only this time he shall get a little help from a Bard who shall remain nameless (Olath Faern doesn't like the competition).

I took advantage of this new start to add a few mods: Xan, Hubelpot, Iylos (for ToB), Alassa, Ghareth, Tiax, Angelo, Dungeon Crawl, Shards of Ice, Tower of Deception, Assassinations... I might have got carried away a little but we shall see (all the same I wanted to try these mods and I haven't played BG2 for a year).

I hope things won't go awry and that my computer will not mess with me like the old one did.

Now I have to play through my last posts and hopefully I'll start updating Olath Faern's progress very soon.

Olath Faern will return!

Truth be told, I had forgotten about this. Good to see you getting going again- I'll be watching with interest.

Especially from that Haer' Dalis jackass!

Thanks guys.

@Splunge: I'm still trying to get that Necromancer degree but when you work full time it's not that easy.

Especially from that Haer' Dalis jackass!

You got it... Especially since my game ended prematurely when Olath Faern was going to demonstrate the superiority of the Jester over the Blade.

Still enjoying the scenery at the Promenade. ;)

Edit: now at the Harpers compound, I've already done Baron Ployer's curse (triggered it by accident). It's been so long I had forgotten how fun it is to play that game. Had a hard time re-adjusting to my former tactics and I had to reload the first fight with Mencar Pebblecrusher and his goons, although I always did that fight right after getting out of Irenicus Dungeon. Still, it's coming back to me now.

This is great fun, as Minsc (or Gromnir) would say - can't wait for more installments.
I just installed RE for a laugh and am busy whoring my way around Athkatla - maybe I should do a Belle de Jour-style blog, lol.

I've been doing some quests from the Assassinations mod, but I don't consider expanding on the subject since I don't want to spoil this mod for people who haven't played it yet. So far it does the trick, allowing you to act as a hitman in Athkatla, should I post about it, I'll indicate the possible spoilers so you can avoid reading the mod related information.

I didn't install RE because it didn't seem to suit the mood of my bard (not to mention the fact that he would certainly get into trouble with Jaheira). ;)

Here is the long overdue installment for Olath Faern's adventures in Amn:

With Minsc gone, I decided to go back to the Government District. Our little band was one man short and I needed someone else to carry our loot around. I noticed an elf who looked vaguely familiar. The helpless whelp who was prisoner in the mines in Nashkel. How did he make his way to Amn? I also noticed he had recovered his moonblade. The very moonblade I had tried so long to attune to my own self to! How did he recover it from the equipment that had been stolen from us after we were captured. Well, this will remain a mystery since I parted the elf from his sword. I wonder though how he made it that far south...

Anyway, we got into the prison and managed to negotiate an early release for the gnomish smuggler, Jan Jansen. Jan is rather short in comparison to Minsc but he makes up for his diminutive size with his useless chatter. The guard (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/prison_break.jpg?0.21509618321910917) was intensely relieved to see him go. He might not see his coins again though.

We met a strange woman who offered us her "help" she looks ominous enough but I might consider it. Soon enough the Shadow Thieves came up with another deal to match this new offer. I find all this hassle troublesome and I think I'd rather get the information I need from the Cowled Wizards themselves. The problem is that there is no certainty as to whether or not they are ready to oblige and divulge what I need to know once I comply to their terms.

Anyway, I got some clue regarding the whereabouts of the fugitive Valygar, according to his former lover who doesn't seem to be on congenial terms with him now, Valygar owns some property in the Umar Hills. Before I leave the city on such a wild goose chase I still had a few things to attend to.

I'm aware of the guild war and I've witnessed some fights between Shadow Thieves and vampires. I wonder who is behind this feud. If I could convince Tolgerias then I wouldn't have to depend on the Shadow Thieves or their opposition for the answers I need. I'd rather cut the middleman and in order to get the favours of the Shadow Thieves (and hopefully bypass Gaelan) I have to expose Mae'var and gain his trust. I met his right hand man who is none other than Edwin (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/edwin.jpg?0.5063501412994366) the Red Mage from Thay. That wizard is a conceited fool with delusions of greatness and I have but spite for him.

He ordered me to dispose of a Cowled Wizard who has been breathing down his neck. I had no choice but to comply. I don't mind killing another wizard, but I resent Edwin's way of ordering me about. I must bide my time and follow his orders, for now...

I killed Rayic Gethras, the mage proved a worthy foe and when I reported his death to Edwin, the latter sent us to retrieve some incriminating scrolls from a bloated fool at the Sea's Bounty. I bumped into the man and picked his pockets, he certainly didn't notice anything.

Now it's time to report back to Edwin. I'm getting sick and tired of all this fetch and carry business, it's better be over soon or I'm seriously considering carving his chest open with my blade so this mageling can really turn red.

Warning: I have decided to include Angelo in my party. I will put a spoiler warning for any important turn of events introduced by the mod, in the following post you won't learn more than what the readme would tell you (and probably less, but still I thought it would be fair to give you a warning).

We reported back ou success to Edwin. The cur still had a chore for us and he told us to consult Mae'var who wanted us to dispose of a thief called Embarl. It was just business, nothing personal. While at the Sea's Bounty we discovered a pirate hideout and plundered it.

Back to Mae'var's guild, we had another chat with Edwin. It seems the Red Wizard knew all along what we were up to and he decided to join us. I relented to get the incrimitaing evidence. But I hadn't forgot what I owed him. The Mage from Thay got what he deserved (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/squirrel.jpg?0.12116849646347372).

Renal Bloodscalp was pleased with our endeavours, the proof that Mae'var was getting into an alliance with the Night Masks was a death warrant. We merely executed the order. The fight with Mae'var was a rather bloody one. Jan got the worse of it but Jaheira was able to call him from the dead before it was too late. I know for sure why I keep her around and put up with her pathetic wailings over Khalid's death.

I find Jan more and more amusing. Anomen is too proud and I can't taunt him directly, the would be knight wouldn't accept that. I must limit myself to irony and veiled sarcasm. Jan is not so subtle and I relish their quips. My gnomish friend has a way with words and Anomen is quite incapable of finding a proper response, I find that hilarious.

I was disapointed to find out that Renal couldn't offer us a way to avoid dealing with the annoying Gaelan. Still the money he gave us for our services will certainly prove quite useful;

Back to the Copper Coronet I ran into an ill tempered dwarf named Korgan who suggested to go treasure hunting with him. I accepted. The dwarf has a bloody streak and I don't trust him but so far he has proven his worth. We got down the crypts and we got rid of the undead monsters haunting the place to find out that it had already been looted by Korgan's former crew. We tracked them to the roof of the Copper Coronet and split the reward with the sullen dwarf before leaving him to sate his thirst for ale there.

There are rumours of a new cult in the temple district. It seems of great concern to the priest of Helm. I don't care much about priests and cults but I know how useful it can be to have the favour of Helm's followers. I remember how the money I gave and the services I rendered to the priest of Helm when I was in Baldur's Gate helped me to get into the right circles and to atone for the reputation I had gained through mischief. I might consider helping them out provided the fee is high enough. I know for sure that my reputation would benefit from that.

I also heard of a place called Watcher's Keep down south. It seems that heroes are needed everywhere these days. For now I have my hands full in the city but I will consider it in the future.

Anomen was summoned to his trial by Sir Ryan Trawl. The judgement of Torm (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/failure.jpg?0.6046796860759934) was without appeal and Anomen was cast away as being unworthy of becoming a knight. I never thought Anomen would grow a spine, the man is full of surprises! If it wasn't for me he would have confronted the knights in combat right away. His anger and his rage will serve me well. He is a man whose dreams and lifelong ambitions have been crushed and he has lost his last remaining purpose in life. A desperate man can be dangerous, I'll have to find him a new purpose and sharpen his hatred of the knights and his thirst for revenge so that he'll fight for me no matter what.

Back in the Bridge District I heard rumours about a killer who preys on the poor. It seems to be such an idiotic thing to do. The poor have nothing of interest, and I can't see what would be the point of robbing them. There must be some evil ritual at work. My curiosity is piqued but I'm not so curious that I'm going to get out of my way to solve that mystery. At the Five Flagons Inn we met a bard by the name of Keto, we had a few drinks and listened to her stories about the hero of the Sword Coast. It was quite entertaining. But we shouldn't have underestimated the intoxicating nature of the large variety of drinks that can be sampled in that place (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/tavern.jpg?0.6801908196550153).

Raelis Shai is looking for a missing actor who has disappeared in the city. I would be tempted to act as a patron of the arts but the platry sum she offered is a major deterrent. It's a mere pitance and I have too much on my hands right now to consider it. I might if I have to strive against boredom but it doesn't seem to be the case in the near future.

While we were relaxing, we did some gravedigging in the Graveyard District. It seems an odd custom to bury people alive. I find the scheme interesting. Asking for ransom and dropping your quarry under a heap of dirt sounds like a clever idea to make a few gold coins. Unfortunately for him, the man we unwittingly rescued had nothing to offer. I'm not going to disrupt the local trade if I don't get a major incentive to do so. By major I mean enough gold to keep me occupied for a tenday.

We happened to run into a face from the past. Angelo, my late brother handyman, the very man who sentenced me to die by hanging in Baldur's Gate. Fate marches in mysterious and unpredictable ways. I killed him once, I could kill him a second time if need be. While I was considering which weapon I would soil with his unclean blood he made me an offer I could not refuse. He offered to serve me like he had served my brother. While it's true that Sarevok's corpse is now rotting in th Undercity, I can't contest the fact that he had his share of success before we ran into each other. Angelo Dosan is the right man to second me in my quest to unlock the power of Bhaal. He was familiar with Sarevok's lineage and his lack of principles is refreshing. Jaheira remonstrated but I can't make her see the wisdom in my decision. It was a bold move I admit but I know something that she doesn't but that Angelo is fully aware of. I'm as ruthless as my late brother was and I'll have more than even he could dream of. It's my destiny and nobody will stand between me and what is rightfully mine...

Something Angelo didn't think fit to mention is that he has a bounty on his head. That doesn't bother me. I've been hunted so long, I don't mind killing more bounty hunters.

Yoshimo has betrayed a certain interest in my origins. His curiosity is not surprising, I've been around enough rogues already and I know their prying eyes don't miss much. Still I wonder if the man has an agenda that he keeps hidden from me. I've been watching him ever since we left our captor's dungeon and I suspect that his outgoing nature conceals some dark secret. I rest easy having him in my sight where I can watch him. Thieves are not known for being loyal and yet, so far I have nothing to substantiate these suspicions. Perhaps it's only the consequence of one of the many visions (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/cut.jpg?0.5485928607921653) I had lately.

Although Jan's constant chattering is wearing down on almost everyone in the party, he never ceases to amuse me. The gnomish peddler is both irritating and astute and his reputation in Athkatla precedes us wherever we go (http://site.voila.fr/olathfaern/Calbor.jpg?0.7789876970475275).

I eventually decided to make a deal with Gaelan Bayle. The Shadow Thieves are the evil I know. They may betray me but they wouldn't benefit from that with the guild war raging in the streets. I don't think I could have had so much trust with the other group. Gaelan gave me a pass so that I can meet up with Aran Linvail, the master of the Shadow Thieves and one of the most powerful men in Faerun. I can't wait.

Why didn't you keep Korgan?! :p
Also, slaughtering the Order of the Most Radiant Hearts is very fun. If you have a high-levelled Viconia, you can even control them and make them kill each other! Bahahaha!! Anomen shall have his revenge on the pack of dogs!

It's one of the new things ToB adds to the game, evil clerics can now turn and scare paladins! (so it is not nice to have both Viccy and Keldorn togther anymore)

My computer works but I lost my save... Although I copied my entire BG2 folder it seems that Vista didn't bother copying compatibility files which means that I'll have to start from the very beginning of SoA one more time. Grumble.

Olath Faern will return.
