I haven't added any other mods to my game recently, but Kelsey has stopped working. Now when he approaches me to talk the first time you meet him, instead of diaglog coming up, he yells his death cry. Something like "Mystra protect your humble servant" or something like that, and then the game freezes and I have Ctr+Atl+Del. I have reloaded the area and tried three times. Any ideas on what went wrong, or should I just uninstall, and then re-install Kelsey?

Hate to say it, but if you can, back up an old save and just reinstall everything. That's the easy way out. I don't understand the coding or history of the Kelsey mod to be able to pinpoint it. Sorry dude.

By everything I take it you mean the game, all the mods, and the fix patches. Geez, that sucks. Maybe I just won't play Kelsey - he's expendable.

Don't give up yet though. May be there's somebody here that knows more about it than I do, which isn't all that much. Usually when I have a game crash or problem like that while I have a mod installed, I assume it has to do with the in-game mod occurances (like meeting Kelsey, buying at a new shop, etc) and just reinstall it. Maybe try visiting the forums on the Forgotten Wars site. I'll bet you a nickel someone else has had this problem before and brought it up there.

I had the same problem (more or less) the worst thing was that happened to me when I was about to fight Irenicus :( The thing is that I had to reinstall EVERYTHING, since then, once installed and before any mod I backup most of the files that the mod changes (about 15Mb) just in case.

Death Rabbit's advice sounds about right to me. Otherwise, you could try PMing jcompton. From what I have seen he is very good about helping people who are having trouble with his mods.

Or just asking on Forgotten Wars.

That's not remotely his death cry at all. It's not even his line. Typically, when a mod starts showing up lines that don't belong to it, it means something else has been installed.

Here's a guess--you say you didn't apply any mods, but did you add TOB or apply the Bioware patch?

Yes, I did add the patch since then. I had used Kelsey several times before I installed the patch and he worked fine. I just installed the patch because I found it on the site and it occurred to me it had been about a year since I downloaded a patch, so I assumed things had changed. Does that mean I only have to re-install Kelsey?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know where that "Mystra protect me" line comes from? I don't remember hearing that death cry from anyone before.

Applying any official Bioware content (TOB or patch) kills ALL mods. You can try re-running the Setup-Kelsey.exe and selecting the Reinstall option but you may have to reinstall your game. This is why carefully written mod docs tell you to patch the game first.

Something obviously overwrote Kelsey's lines in the dialog.tlk file.

The order to install things (always true):
1. Main Game
2. Patches
3. Non-WeiDU mods (not too many left, but the original Acension comes to mind)
4. WeiDU mods

Except there's no good reason to install Ascension-Classic. Please don't. :)

More accurate order to install things:
1. Main Game
2. Official Patches
3. TLK overwriting mods (big thingies like TDD)
4. IAP-SFX mods (erm... Freedom's Reign and stuff)
5. WeiDU mods

The difference seems minor, but IAP-SFX mods, while being non-WeiDU, will not mangle the TLK file.
