View Full Version : Bug? -> alignment change to NE in ToB
crimson_harlequin Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 8:06pm i played through SoA to the end with a LG monk protagenist; took all the good paths at the end; had imo give part of her soul to revive sarevok so he could join and the next thing I know my monk is Neutral Evil. ???
[doubt that it matters, but i have concurent romances with aerie (first) and vicky (second)...]
Not only that, but now all my ToB save games load with the the monk as NE; even the ones before I add sarevok.
shadowkeeper 214 shows the monk's alignment is LG in the "characteristics" tab. Under the "affects" tab "alignment change" is 0.
I'd really like to do ToB as good; mostly because I want to induce sarevok and vicky to alignment change. Is there any way to fix this? I dont mind using the console or shadowkeeper...
Thanks guys.
FenixStrife Wed, 3rd Oct '01, 11:23pm you took the evil path in one of the tests in hell. just go back through hell and follow a walkthrough to make sure you do everything right.

Erran Fri, 5th Oct '01, 2:07pm Surely a GOOD character would give part of their own essence, not get Imo to do it for you? N-E, good call IMHO!

crimson_harlequin Fri, 5th Oct '01, 4:59pm at the time I was thinking that i'd be making sarevok a b-spawn and reasoned that he would definately do good with some of imo's wussy-kindness for balance. I was trhinking it might make him easier to manage, or change alignment to good/neutral that way (although I highly doubt it was programmed to matter).
tjekanefir Fri, 5th Oct '01, 5:09pm It shouldn't matter which of you gives up the essence, but Imoen and Sarevok have some interesting conversations about it if she's the one.
I agree with the previous poster, sounds like you accidentally took an evil path in hell and didn't notice. Did you get mad at Sarevok, maybe? If you get mad at him, even if you don't turn into the Slayer, you still go evil.
Ironbeard Sat, 6th Oct '01, 9:57pm I think the whole "Evil path in hell" thing's a bit dodgy. I mean, out of six tests, you have to pass each one the "good" way, and have a perfect record to avoid becoming neutral evil, whereas the more interesting characters generally have flaws. I think it would have been more interesting if the tests had worked on a sort of scoring system, whereby you could drop from good to neutral, or become different types of evil. For example, I had a Paladin who I reckoned was a bit arrogant, so I thought I'd go fail the pride test and become lawful neutral or lawful evil, but it didn't work like that. What might have been nice would have been 2 or 3 Good/Evil tests and 2 or 3 Order/Chaos tests with your alignment calculated from the results (eg with 2 tests each : 2 Good = Good Alignment, 1 Good: 1 Evil = Neutral Alignment, 2 Evil = Evil Alignment) and extra bonuses for sticking to alignment.
Just a random gripe.
tjekanefir Sun, 7th Oct '01, 12:24am I suppose that if you give in to evil even once while you're in Hell, it's conceivable that would be letting the Slayer win your soul and thus damning you to evil. Still, it's silly that it would change your law-chaos alignment. They should at least have changed only the evil part.
And it's too bad evil characters can't turn *good* in those tests. How come good characters can fall from grace, but evil ones can't be redeemed?
Anyway, at least the challenges in ToB are a little more complicated than that. Except for the first one, which goes directly from your alignment, the rooms are decided 'good' or 'evil' based on a scoring system similar to the one you suggest.
Gonzago Sun, 7th Oct '01, 12:26pm Yeah, I have a problem with the tears of bhaal good/evil thing as well. If you're evil and take the good path, you don't become NG. If you're neutral, you have to take the good path, lest you become evil. And the frickin' genie thanks you no matter *how* you release him, but no Blackrazor for the good guys.
And if, for example, you're pure evil, selfish, etc., giving up a dexterity point to keep Korgan's grandmastered axe in your party is decidedly *not* the good path. It's both the smart *and* selfish path.
