View Full Version : Dual classing problems (bug?)

I dual classed a level 20 wizard slayer to thief.
1) At level 20 I had 32% MR (?!?)
2) Right after dual classing my MR halved to 16%?
3) My lv-1 thief could not use any magical items other than armor and weapons.
4) After breaching lv-21 I got back my MR and more, from that point onwards I have had 40%MR.

Can anybody explain me any of these points?
1) As I recall the wizard slayer should gain 1% per level as in the description or 2% as was implemented in SoA. So how the hell did I get 32% at lv-20?
2) Doesn't seem to make sense at all.
3) Right after dual classing the penalties of the original class should not be visible yet right?
4) 40% seems like a correct number, but why do I need to dual class first before I get my complete MR?

I dunno if this is true, but don't Wizard Slayers start off with MR anyway? then get an extra 1% per level?

When you dual-class the primary class is disabled until you level up again

The MR counter gets a little wacky sometimes. If you had a weapon or shield with MR, just take it off and on. That should fix the MR counter. Hope it helps clear things up... :)
Since your magic resistance was 16% after dualling I take it you wore armor/shield/weapon granting MR.

On the limitations for a thief dualled from Wizardslayer... Sounds weird. Someone still playing SoA might be nice and test it. My game is far down the dusty boxes. Dunno why I even cruised by this forum at all.

Well, right now I don't have any problems anymore. I have 45% natural magic resistance and 60% by items.
I haven't worn any MR items until I had UAI, so that theory won't work. Besides, all items grant magic resistance in steps of 5%

45% natural magic resistance?! How did you get that? Shadowkeeper is the only way I can think of.

Is a dualled Wizardslayer/thief wielding Carsomyr and getting the +5 MR from the machine in Watchers Keep totally immune to magic... Just curious.

Unless someone lowers his MR then he is practicly immune to magic. It's not fun playing that way though, believe me I know. ;)

@Rastor:
40% from kit, 5% from lum.

@Nobleman:
If you dual after level 22 then you have 100% MR, but a few spells still get through. The mindflayer attacks (all of them) ignore MR, as do certain charm and fear spells, imprisonment and probably a few other attacks. Walking through lava will also not be absorbed.
On a side note, I hardly use Carsomyr. I hate the pic that comes with it plus I can't backstab with it. I mainly use a +4 scimitar, until ToB belm was perfect.

40% from kit? Hmm, that's odd. My wizardslayers (with ToB) only get 1% magic resistance until level 21, where every other level they get 5%. By my calculations, that's 21%, unless you got to level 20 before installing ToB, where it would be 40%. For some reason, installing ToB edits the amount of MR they recieve.

8people, wizardslayers get 1% per level with ToB installed, with no bonus. Therefore, a level 0 wizardslayer would have no resistance.

Rastor, if you read my first post you'll see that when I reached level 20 I had 32% MR
(try making a level 20 wizard slayer using clua for youself for testing reasons if you want to)
After dual classing I still had 16% left (should be 0%)
When I enabled the wizard slayer kit I suddenly had 40% MR naturally.
(with enabeling I mean reaching lv-21)

I'm not saying this all makes sense to me because then I wouldn't have posted this topic.
