View Full Version : Nalia weirdness

I've been lurking for a while, but I finally decided to step out of the shadows with a question (so hi, everyone!)

I seem to have run into a roadblock regarding Nalia's quests. My party cleared the de'Arnise keep without having Nalia along, then picked her up on our way out, so we could deal with her father's funeral and subsequent drama. After slumming for the requisite amount of time, I noticed that no one came to notify her about the funeral. I wasted a lot of time waiting, and finally gave up after nearly five weeks (32 days)of game time had passed.

Does anyone know if the de'Arnise funeral quest doesn't activate if you didn't take Nalia into the de'Arnise keep originally?

Also, I notice that if you take Nalia into the keep after you've cleared it, she gives you the same flavor text you would get if you were going in for the first time. Unfortunately, the intermediate quest stages then show up in your journal as current quests, even though the "de'Arnise keep cleared" entry is already in your "Done Quests" section.

In case anyone needs my system information, I'm actually playing the Mac version of Shadows of Amn (OS 10.3). I originally had ToB installed, then removed it and reinstalled basic SoA only when I found out that ToB stalls out the Jaheira Harper storyline. When I reinstalled SoA only, that quest immediately picked up and progressed normally, but Nalia's never did. Annoyingly, reinstalling SoA also caused my party's reputation to drop 10 points! :(

Sorry this went on so long. I'd appreciate any thoughts about any of the above.

Thanks,
Pazu

Am I right in thinking that Nalia recieves some sort of notification once the keep is cleared regarding her future 'marriage' or the funeral or some such thing?

I'm pretty sure you would have to have Nalia whilst doing the keep in order to trigger thr funeral etc.

I thought you had to take Nalia to the graveyard? Can't remember... too far back. But the messenger does sound familiar. I don't really get the "need to pass X hours of game time" thing. For me it seems it has to be "pass X hours of game time doing something productive (like quests)" since mass-clicking the rest button doesn't seem to pass time.

My guess would be that you don't have to have her in the party during the keep, but that's just a hunch.

I wouldn't worry too much about the flaw in the journal. Some of the Firkraag quests never seem to move over to the done quests section for me. So I just leave it as is.

Thanks for the replies!

Dranalis: When I finished the Keep and talked to Captain Whatshisname, he made a comment about how we should keep Nalia occupied until her father's funeral. Then, when I put Nalia into the party and had her talk to him, he said something about how sorry he was about her father. That was it.

Blog: I've been able to activate other NPC quests by traveling between Druid Grove and Temple Ruins repeatedly (32 hour transit time each way), so I don't know how productive you have to be. :) I'm pretty sure I tried going to the graveyard with Nalia after a week or two, and didn't find anything, so I think someone has to come get her.

Oh well, it doesn't make a huge difference one way or the other, I guess.

Thanks, all.

You might want to check a few of the guides you can download from Sorcerers Place. My guesses, aside form the fact that you didn't have her in the party, is that you either didn't speak to her before the keep, or you didn't speak to her afterwards and this somehow affected the flow of the game.

I think you have to actually complete the Keep with Nalia in your party.

my two cents :

* you'll definitely get notified by a messenger of the funeral

* might be that the funeral is event-triggered and not time triggered
* might also be that you have to have taken control over the keep to get nalia's father's funeral going. have you ?

Thanks for the suggestions (sorry it took me a while to get back here...)

Dranalis: I did in fact speak to her both before entering the keep (and picked the option of letting her stay behind to be safe) and again when I finished.

Klorox: I'm starting to think that your idea is correct.

nightwood: Well, I never saw a messenger, so I eventually just went on. My character couldn't take control of the de'Arnise keep, since she's a bard.

Ah well, now I'm deep in the Underdark and have installed Throne of Bhaal (since Anomen hit his XP cap), so I guess that means I can't post to this forum anymore. :)

I'll move your thread to the ToB forum. Btw, please don't use signatures, it's against our forum rules.
