Hi All...

I guess this is a pretty frivolous thread, but hey, I really wanted to tell someone because it was so funny and I thought I might post it up here!

So anyways...I was doing Improved Irenicus last night, and I had beaten all the different bosses Irenicus conjures (Orb of Fear, Dragon of XYZ, Wraith of Wrath, Sword of Greed etc etc) until only Irenicus was left. My party was consisted of PC( Fighter/Mage/Cleric), Aerie (Mage/Cleric) and Imoen (Thief/Mage) only...

Anyway, the first part of the fight was normal enough, except for the Wraith which cornered Imoen and drained all her Strength!! She died...but Aerie had a Rod of Resurrection so no biggie..

Now the problem was that only Irenicus was left, and he has the Cloak of Cheese equipped I think, because everything says Spell Ineffective. He keeps spamming Prot. from Magic Weapons so my F/M/C (with Grandmastery in Quarterstaffs...yeah yeah, its modded, big hoot! :p ) can't hurt him. And I usually carry a normal Quarterstaff but I forgot to do that this time around for some strange reason...

I was timing a casting of Time Stop to co-incide with the end of the fourth round after his last casting of Prot. from Magic Weapons, so that he would be unprotected in the Time Stop and my SotM could hurt him. Except I mistimed it slightly...the Time Stop went off, but just before, his PfMW did as well!! I got really pissed off...so I just unequipped my weapons, activated Critical Strike and went to it! I was Improved Hasted so I only got 2 attacks per round...but because of my massive STR (Righteous Magic) he was down to Badly Injured when the Time Stop ran out...but who cares?!? I never thought just my fists would hurt him!

So then I Improved Hasted Aerie after I cast DUHM with HER, then Time Stop and then I beat him up a bit...then Imoen as well...until he was on Nearly Dead and unconscious. So then I kept punching him around till his PfMW ran out and then BOOM! Dead Irenicus!

In my excitement...I forgot to take a screenshot :hahaerr: so...sorry bout that. But it was friggin AWESOME!! :D

Funny, every time i use my fists, the enemy goes unconcious but refuses to die

@Mongerman: Yeah...that's why I said I kept punching him till his PfMW wore off...cuz then I could switch to my SotM to hit him so he died.

Funny how no other character other then the monk can kill with fists. I once had a SK'ed kensai where I duplicated the dmg increase dozens of times. He was doing upward of 50 dmg with his fists, but unable to kill anything

@Mongerman - Can you explain that character? That sounds really interesting.

Unarmed attacks are programmed not to kill. In BG1 you could exploit this when fighting against someone who casted Shillelagh or similar. When it wore off, they usually were unarmed and you could just fight them, without even fearing they could kill you.

Congratulations on beating Improved JonBon, that fight is always awesome. :thumb:

My own tactic is casting a TS after a few rounds he casts PfMW, and when it goes down in TS (you hear a slight voice) whack him with SoM and he is naked:soon to be dead. Fire from Eagle Bow to stun hİM (Imoen is the candidate to cast TS and use SoM AND then Eagle Bow) and he will stay there, naked, and stunned:then you can kill him at your leisure. Otherwise, he would be next to impossible to kill the hard way around, he kicks a** with his infinite spells, permanent imp. alacrity, and smart AI. :mommy:

I never thought he was not immune to normal weapons though, I guess Weimer left it there for a weakness to be exploited. I would like to see him being immune to it in later versions, it just does not sound right. IIRC, normal, unmodded Irenicus was immune to normal weapons, right?

It is hillarious too! I will try it in my next run. But then he can cast Improved Mantle to counter it, and you will have to switch to +5 weapons.

If you use shadowkeeper to open up a kensai character, you'll see dmg modifiers under affects. Just duplicate the entries, and your kensai will get +1 dmg +1 thaco for each duplication. You can even add it to other characters.

Heh, regardless of how frivolous it may be, this thread still gave me a good chuckle. Cool way to do it.
