Harbourboy Wed, 23rd Feb '05, 7:48pm Someone please fill me on what this means and why everyone is so excited?
Shrikant Wed, 23rd Feb '05, 7:49pm My barbarian, Korgan, Edwin, Jan, Viconia and Cernd will have more to talk about then
Which do I install first, this or the flirt pack?
Beren Wed, 23rd Feb '05, 8:20pm @Harbourboy
You know the odd time when your NPCs hold a short conversation? The Banter Pack adds plenty more of them, and also adds a script to make party banters occur frequently.
Harbourboy Wed, 23rd Feb '05, 8:31pm More frequently? But they're a pain in the neck as it is! You have to keep pressing Enter in order to get through it so you can carry on with the game. Why would you want to have even more of them?
Plus, who is it that is making up these new dialogues? Is it someone funny?
Shrikant Wed, 23rd Feb '05, 8:43pm HB
Obviously you are just clicking through, Nalia is the dumbest charecter in the game. Only slightly more annoying than Mazzy.
In your next run, pick Jan from the Government District and then tell me his dialogues are not funny. Pair him with Minsc or Keldron for added fun.
Not only are the dialogues in the banter packs good but they also add more to charecters like Imoen, for whom there weren't a lot of dialogues written.
Nakia Wed, 23rd Feb '05, 9:56pm @Harbourboy, The option for more frequent banter is optional. You don't have to install that. The Banter Pack is fun but of course it depends on how you want to play the game. Remember that those of us following your game have played many times and novelty adds spice to the game. Don't rush off to install a bunch of mods.
Harbourboy Thu, 24th Feb '05, 12:44am Shrikant - I had Jan in my party for ages (until it was time to go get Imoen). His dialogue went on for ages and ages and slowed the game up considerably. I think Minsc is reasonably funny but Jan went on a bit too much.
Andyr Thu, 24th Feb '05, 1:07am More frequently? But they're a pain in the neck as it is!If you're a hack-and-slash player as opposed to someone who enjoys NPC character development then this is probably not the mod for you.
Splunge Thu, 24th Feb '05, 2:43am *gasp!* HB is dissing banters. And Andyr is dissing HB for dissing banters! :p
Anyway, banters can be pretty funny and help to change the pace of the game. But the can be a pain if they happen mid-battle.
Taluntain Thu, 24th Feb '05, 3:05am What was that proverb again? Never rain on a mod maker's parade because you'll get hosed down yourself? :shake:
Klorox Thu, 24th Feb '05, 3:11am LOL, Splunge, you're my hero. So frikkin' funny.
I enjoy the banters. This mod definitely adds to the replayability of this game (with different NPCs!).
Anyway, what do I do, since I have the old banter pack installed? Can I install this one right on top, or should I uninstall the old one before installing this one?
Andyr Thu, 24th Feb '05, 3:32am When you re-extract the mod and tell it to reinstall, it will uninstall the old version and install the new one for you. Same for (almost) any WeiDU mod. :)
Splunge: I wasn't dissing HB, simply pointing out that if you hate party banter then a banter pack's not a good mod for you. ;)
Harbourboy Thu, 24th Feb '05, 6:11am I didn't think I was a hack 'n' slasher. I thought I was trying to roleplay quite well. But for me, if the banter just happens randomly and is unrelated to what is currently happening in the story, then, to me, that is not part of the roleplaying. If it is random, then I might as well just sit down and read a script of some funny stuff the character say to each other, rather than play the game with the hope that they say something funny at some point.
But as I am still to complete my first time through the game, I acknowledge that you guys know more about all this than me.
And I'm not criticising the mod, as I am sure it is of very good quality - I was just surprised by the whole concept of it.
SimDing0 Thu, 24th Feb '05, 9:38am Anyway, banters can be pretty funny and help to change the pace of the game. But the can be a pain if they happen mid-battle.I'm fairly sure banters happening mid-battle is a bug. I'd imagine this was the case with vanilla BG2, rather than anything to do with the Banter Packs, however.
What was that proverb again? Never rain on a mod maker's parade because you'll get hosed down yourself?I think this is probably true of a lot of people. :)

If it is random, then I might as well just sit down and read a script of some funny stuff the character say to each other, rather than play the game with the hope that they say something funny at some point. You might say the same about almost any quest in the game, though. The Circus quest has nothing to do with the main plot of the game-- it's just something to do as an aside, so it's essentially as "random" as the banter.
jcompton Thu, 24th Feb '05, 6:23pm I'm fairly sure banters happening mid-battle is a bug. I'd imagine this was the case with vanilla BG2, rather than anything to do with the Banter Packs, however.Or the vagaries of the CombatCounter() trigger. We certainly try to avoid starting during combat, but if the game says "Okay, well, you're not in combat", then my scripting tends to believe it.
Kitrax Fri, 25th Feb '05, 4:47am Ok, so I have version 5 of the Banter Packs, and I want to upgrade to v6...do I have to start a new game for the upgrade to take effect? :rolling:
Nakia Fri, 25th Feb '05, 6:27am According to the Read Me you do not need to start a new game.
