Warning: contains spoilers

I have been playing ascension on my last time trough ToB and everything went really well (and pretty easy), but now I have a problem. I am in the final battle and I find it very hard. I really don't stand a chance. I'd like to ask for tactics and such but that is not the main purpose of this topic.

Part of what is making this battle so hard, is that Sarevok turns on me (I'm good). I wanted to convert him to chaotic good, but the last three dialogues with him have been the same. So I think there was some bug that caused the new dialogues in which I could change him, to not come. I didn't think much of it, but now I really want to redeem him for two reasons:
1. I want to see everything Ascension has to offer.
2. This fight is extremely hard as it is. I can easily kill Sarevok (unfortunate for him that he changes to his original self), but he is really strong when in my team and I need him.

Does anyone have any solutions to this? Maybe someone knows what variables to set or something, although I probably wouldn't get the dialogue then. I already tried making him good with SK, but it didn't work.
Oh, and if someone feels like it, I could use some tactics (that don't involve traps, I hate them) for the final ascension battle as well.

Ascension is very hard, and took me many tries to complete. Despite my character being good, Sarevok did not turn to Melissan. I know that I didn't change his alignment, because I don't think you can if you make him swear not to betray you, and I remember Melissan breaking his binding oath. For me it was Imoen who turned, annoyingly enough, as she was my only magicker.

If you have the improved Bhaalspawn mods, definitely go for Illasera first, as she was made overpowered, and can deal nasty amounts of damage while you get held up by the fighter-types. Balthazar should be next, because of his stunning fists. After that, deal with the others in whichever order you feel best. Yaga-Shura's extreme damage resistance means that he is best left until last.

The final fight on Ascension is ridiculously tough. I ended up cutting my losses and giving up for the sake of my health. I was a sorceror and was owning every fight, then on the final one, Imoen turns and fires at me with Taralash's bow with +4 arrows before I had chance to put prots. on = Dead Sorceror, also with the rest of the party set up I had, it was impossible :( .

Thinking back I may have been able to do it after many many attempts, but now i'll never know as I cant even play ToB :'(.

I'm actually past the point where Imoen turns on you. I find it strange though that she shot you, cause with me, she just turned into the Slayer.

Anyway, I saved my game just before activating the last pool and thus just before facing the Five + Mellissan + Sarevok.

I just read somewhere that Sarevok won't turn on me if I set the difficulty to easy tempoarily, so that problem's probably out of the way. But I really want to make him good, anybody know how to do that?

Well, to make Sarevok good, the following globals have to be set (and they must have the numbers I'm about to tell you.)

SarevokOath=0
SarevokChange>1
ExpBSarevok10=2

Set all that, then fire off the dialogue. See if it works then.

Alternatively, you could always try: ChangeAlignment("Sarevok",CHAOTIC_GOOD).

Thanks Rastor!

I did all of that and it worked.

But now I still can't beat the finale :( . I beat it once on easy difficulty, but I want Insane :cool: .

Anybody have any strategies?

Sorry all, but I'll have to indulge in a little *** shameless self-promotion ***

My walkthrough (Dave Milward's) goes into considerable discussion of strategies for Ascension. However, depending on your party makeup, they may or not be helpful to you.
