View Full Version : Most Useful Kits

I would like to see what everyone thinks the most useful kits of each class which has kits is. Excluding any classes which are similar but don't have kits of their own(for example, Sorceror, or Barbarian, or Monk).

My personal opinions are as follows.

Fighter kit - Berserker. Who cares if he can't specialize in ranged weaponry, if he specializes in axe, he's got some nice enchanted throwing axes to use which return to his hand. If he's a dwarf, and specializes in War Hammers, not only does he get the Crom Faeyr, and eventually the Runehammer, but also he gets nice, dwarf-only enchanted throwing hammers. Since he can take either one to grandmaster, it's a grandmaster in both melee and range, with absolutely no loss.

Bard kit - Before TOB, I would've said Skald, after TOB, because of the Improved Bard Song, it's a toss-up between Skald and Blade. Skald has the extra lore, slightly less pickpocket. Blade has extra pickpocket, and the spins, and offensive spin could be very useful.

Priest kit - Priest of Helm. Why? I don't like Lathander that much(though I like him a lot better than Ilmater), and Talos isn't very attractive to me either.

Druid kit - Probably Avenger.

Mage kit - Wild Mage. No opposition school, extra spell like a specialist mage, and all it takes is the chance that there'll be a wild surge, which can actually be GOOD.

Paladin kit - Undead Hunter. I get so annoyed with undead and Level Drain, that this one would have made it for that reason alone, but he also keeps the ability to use priest spells and turn undead, meaning he can function as a healer as well.

Ranger kit - Ok, I'm not particularly fond of most of the ranger kits. About the only one that I really find useful at all is the Archer kit, and even then, it's a very limited use, because he's really only that useful as an archer instead of also as a fighter like other rangers.

Thief kit - Depends. A toss up between Assassin and Swashbuckler. The assassin ends up being capable of hitting for more with the backstab, but that's only really useful if you have the chance to set up for the backstab, which you don't always have that chance. Swashbuckler, on the other hand, is better at actual fighting, and gets more skill points to distribute on thieving abilities, but can't backstab at all.

I couldn't have said it better myself except that there is no doubt about the bard - Blades rule  :p .

Fighter-Wizard Slayer. The extra MR and mage interrupters is more useful than the abilities of other kits.

Bard-Skald or Blade.

Cleric-Priest of Lathander. I don't really like Talos, and the bonus Lathander spells are better than Helm's.

Druid-Avenger. I don't really like druids to begin with, but this one seems the most powerful of all the kits.

Mage-Pure class or Invoker. I don't use enchantment spells, so losing them is no big deal. I don't like wildmages (a few bad experiences involving my whole party getting killed by my protagonist).

Ranger-Pure Class. He's almost as good a bowman as the archer, can wear better armor, fights in melee better (since I very rarely use bows), and can cast spells.

Thief-Probably Assassin.

i disagree with you guys about druid kit. :o I tried both of them and it seems to me that shapeshifter is much more fun to play. :p

All avengar can do is cast spells.(extra ones so what) . Sure he can shapeshift in some extra forms but they are only usefull in the beginning(especialy spider) becouse they lack magical weapon. :(

But shapeshifter can do both, cast spells and fights and does both very good. if properly enchanted before shapeshifting and transformed into Greater W. he just rocks - 4 attaks with belm, double damage with spell(i dont know the name)and few minor enchantments. Better than fighter. :D :D

You sure about that Goth? I was under the impression that shapeshifters lost their weapons when they went into werewolf form.

I read somewhere here on forums that you can wear shadow dragon plate with shapeshifter(natural armor) and when you equip belm+2 you get extra attack.
Ive tried it myself and...

DAMN!!

None of them worked
Perhaps its becouse of the newest version and TDD i dont know why. But i'm quite sure those guys wouldnt be lying(no reason to). Even without these (actually)bugs i still think shapeshifter is more fun to play. with GW he can be quite a tank.

Kensai/mage... POWER GAME! YEAH! Solo with a CE K/M and have a reputation of 20! Role-playing? You what?

Well, here's my opinion, from a very power-play slanted viewpoint ;) .

Fighter- Toss-up between the beserker and the kensai, but for overall reliability, I'd go for te beserker.

Mage- Wild, for the reasons mentioned above.

Bard- BLADE! They get good enough lore, and they are just sooooooooo much cooler than skalds.

Ranger- Stalker- in my opinion, rangers were never meant to wear armour in the first place.

Cleric- Talos- the storm shield is awesome.

Druid- Shapeshifter fro SOA, but greater werewolves aren't tough enough in TOB, so I'd go avenger there.

Paladin- Inquisitor for sure, the dispels and true seeings are great, and they don't loose much. Undead hunters are good too, but not that good.

Thief- I think these are all good in various ways...

At the moment In my game i'm playing a Blade, and they are awesome classes, but nobody ever plays them i find. Other fav's include:

Fundle Khemshain
Renegade Mad Priest of Helm(Cleric, Helm, Chaotic Neutral), and it's a blast!

Eowen A'mphradite
Blade of Twin Twinklers(Half-Elf Bard, Chaotic Good, Katana's), awesome class.

I never played with a Cleric before, and this one's great!

I think sorcerer is the best mage (if it's considered mage kits)

Fallen Paladin
Thu, 22nd Aug '02, 6:30pm
Paladin - Cavalier
Thief - Swashbuckler
that's all for now!

Hassassin
Thu, 22nd Aug '02, 8:18pm
Paladin - Inquisitor
Fighter - Kensai (my most favorite)
Thief - Swashbuckler
Monk

Inquisitor is very effective fighter combined with his/her dispel / true sight abilities.

Kensai is deadly in most of the situations (I was able to get my AC to -2 without any spells on), and can dispatch most non-boss monsters within a round. Who cares about being hit, if you have enough HP ( > 200 at my current LVL 48) and ring of regeneration. Just be sure, that no one charms / dominates him/her :) . Also - Kensai with 2 katanas :)

Of course you need a mage to put the protections down, and someone to distract enemies and hold on - Monk or Swashbuckler are ideal for this. BTW: As the high level thief can use even the Holy Avenger, it is quite interesting :)

Er. Has anyone killed a dragon with one(!) hit? Jaheira's DOOM spell + QUIVERING palm of a monk :D

All classes favs:

First and only RULING kit - Swashbuckler
Second - Berserker.

My choice for each major class.

Fighter. Definitely beserker for the enrage immunities. You can even solo due to this!

Cleric. Talos. Nice and Evil. Can also be used offensively at a lower level.

Druid. Avenger. The Swordspider shapechange has 5 attacks per round and so is more likely to hit. Also slightly more spells. (The spells for druids in BG2 are so lame compared to IWD HOW).

Mage. Conjurer. Has access to nearly every mage spell. Misses out on about 6 spells, and only 2 are really useful.

Thief. Assassin. Backstabbing fun!

Bard. Blade. The ability to dual wield has made this bard kit much more useful than the others. The spins are also very useful. They mean it when they say that they are deadly!

Fighter-Kensai (Thy art not worthy of my blade, evil one! I shallth defeat you!)
Thief-Swashy (makes him a decent warrior)
Pally-Cavalier (Hah! Take that, dragon!)
Druid-Hmm, Shapeshifer (Um, it's full mo...*snarl*)
Bard-Jester *should* be decent (La la la, be confused!)
Cleric-Of Talos (I'm shocking)
Mage-Sorcy, does that count? If not then Wild Mage, prolly...(It's amazing how Wild Mages could be lawful)
Ranger-Archer! (Legolas galore!)
Druid-Avenger? (Nature this, nature that, look! I eat flowers!)

I don't see why I can be caught by Tal or BT or anyone else. I have done nothing wrong and my post was in line of the topic. I just said I liked Berserker fighters so much and why. That's all. Nothing wrong there and nothing to get upset about!

Here's my full list:

Fighter: Berserker
Ranger: Archer
Paladin: Undead hunter
Thief: Assassin
Bard: Blade
Cleric: Talos
Druid: Shapeshifter
Wizard: Mage

Please, I won't edit/delete anything up there, but I will do that with any next post of this type without facts:
"I'm god and my class is demi-semi-god, drool, yes, drool".

Here's my opinion:

_ Fighter: Kensai (no armor, but you can dual to a thief, so AC isnt a problem)
_ Ranger kit: Archer (A kensai with a bow)
_ Paladin kit: Inquisitor (dispel magic and avenger, killing mage easily)
_ Cleric kit: Helm (for the true seeing)
_ Druid kit: Totemic Druid (I just like it)
_ Thief kit: Assassin
_ Bard kit: Blade

Btw, why does everyone think Swashbuckler is the best thief?

I think that the the best characters I have had either dualed from a fighter (berserker mostly), or was a multi-fighter. I really like beaing able to get grand mastery in my weapons (legit).

Right now I'm playing a half-elf Fighter/Mage/Thief, dual-weilding longswords. I like to have the thief abilities, so I can let Yoshimo go for quests NPC's, and pick him up later.
