I am trying watcher's keep, and I have killed every monster on the Machine of Lum the Mad level, except the Demi Lich. I have also not travelled past the door with the torches.

I figure though, that I need to access the machine before I can get past the torches, but I cannot find the crystal hammer anywhere in the Illithid or Gythanki encampments!

Can anyone tell me where to find the hammer?

It is in a container in the room with Rock and Garock -- the room beyond the torches.

Yup, you need to pass through the torch room to get the mallet. The torch room is a bit of a puzzle, in case you hadn't figured that out yet.

i got stuck on that door the first time. then when i figured it out i was all "durrrrr!!!!"
