im doin the kensai mage (thanks Crawl) and basically goin solo

i was thinkin about takin Yoshimo but is he worth the exp. ill have to split with him

Well, he doesn't have any specific quests, so you basicly have no excuse to take him with you and thus making the game easier :)

but someone said that he dies or something and you have to revive him for a lota xp

and his thief skills could give xp

i dont know what do you think

Yes, that's a good point. For example in Mae'Vars Guildhall (second floor), you can get A LOT of xp with a good thief. And there are places where you can definetely use one. Just to give one example : during the "Lilarcor-quest", you pass a bridge trapped with a petrifieng (ahem, how do you spell that word ? :) ) spell. Pretty nasty without a thief.

Ah, you're spoiled already. Well yes, he'll die, and you'll get the chance to do a minor quest that grants you a neat 200,000xp. So maybe he's worth the while after all :)

...don't travel with this sucker. Yoshi's just an idiot and btw. you really don't NEED the XP. IMO with the XPcap activated and you're soloing you'll hit the cap pretty soon and thus the XP are worthless. With the cap disabled...well, yeah 200.000 are nice but don't matter anyway. For a mage it's half a level so finally you'll not reach maybe level 23 but 23,5...

Since you're going solo, I'd say no. You would have to keep him in your party for a while to get to do that quest unless you take an exceedingly long time to go to the underdark. Then he'll die suppodedly around day 70 something(so I've been told at least). Unless you are going to take that long before going to the underdark anyway, I'd say he isn't worth it. Cheers!

Actually, if Yoshi is with you when you enter Spellhold, you're the one who kills him; otherwise he dies due to his failure to perform his geas which is to bring you to Irenicus at Spellhold...

My kensai mage could never survive withhout the 5 other chars. Aerie and Nalia are worthless though. Anomen and minsc are too damn good and Yoshimo is my only thief.

I have to keep Nalia because of a quest.
