OK, I'm having some problems with installing Chloe and Tashia. They are WinRAR files. I have downloaded them to my BGII directory. I open them, and click on extract. Then I run the exe program, and I get:

ERROR: Cannot find dialog.tlk

I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

Well, my first question is...is the dialog.tlk file in that directory? On occasion I've accidentally pressed [CTRL X] instead of [CTRL C] when backing up my dialog.tlk file...only to realize my mistake the next time I tried to run the game.

If the file is in the right place, try deleting it and replacing it with your backup copy...you do have a backup copy don't you? :rolling:

Are you sure you installed to Black Isle\BGII - SoA\? I often forget a space or write BG2.

Obvious I know.

I see no reason why the dialog.tlk file shouldn't be there. The game functions normally with the other mods that I have installed, and no problems. So if there was something screwed up with the dialog.tlk files wouldn't something else be screwed up?

I know I inistalled it in the right directory, because I used the file name that the computer pulled up - I didn't even have to select it. I suppose my main question would be do I have to install it in a specific folder, such as the override folder, character folder, etc.?

Thanks for the help guys.

I just downloaded Tashia from the site linked on SP, and it's in zip format, so that shouldn't be a problem. Where did you find it in rar?

As for de-compressing the rar archives, did you select everything in the archive, and then extract it to a folder? And only then run the executable in the dir you extracted it to?

Aldeth, just because that was the directory that the computer pulled up, doesn't mean it's correct.

The Kelsey mod, for instance, installs into the wrong directory if you use the defaults.

I also downloaded the site from SP - specifically from the link at the very top of this forum. Unless the icon somehow got screwed up, it looks like a WinRAR file. The icon looks like a stack of books - which to me means it a WinRAR file. Am I wrong here? (Geez, that would really make me look dumb - I hope that's not true.)

Rastor, I am confident it is downloaded in the correct place. I had to open up my BGII directory to get to the download to attempt to extract the files. I suppose I can try this again when I have time to play BGII again on Friday, but I was hoping to come up with a solution while I was on travel for work so I could get up and running in a reasonably short period of time.

Anyway, isn't the stack of book icon indicative of a WinRAR file, or am I nuts?

WinRAR can be used to open both .rar and .zip files. It could have been either. :)

You might also consider setting Windows to show file extensions. That way there's not mystery whatsoever.

i got that message a coupla times. and it was because i was installing while i was running the game, minimized on my taskbar. :)

could it be possible you are doing the same thing, too? ;)

If the game or any program that edits the game (Shadow Keeper, NI, etc.) is active, then you will get that error.

The Kelsey mod, for instance, installs into the wrong directory if you use the defaults. You must have a somewhat unusual install of BG2, then. We read the registry key for BG2, and it works for virtually everyone else.

That is strange.

My registry key lists my BG2 install as being BGII - SoA.

The Kelsey mod attempted to install itself to BG2-SoA. That directory does not exist.
