View Full Version : Easiest solo?
Klorox Mon, 1st Nov '04, 5:02am What's the easiest class to solo SoA and ToB with?
I've never solo'ed before, and I'm starting to consider it.
I'm thinking a F/M/T would probably be pretty good, as it covers almost every base (a Cleric would be nice, but isn't needed). With a solo character, you can't cover every base anyway.
TIA
Tassadar Mon, 1st Nov '04, 5:14am Inquisitor. It's almost *too* easy.
Eric Xanthus Mon, 1st Nov '04, 5:30am To some extent it will depend on how you like to play. I think it's easiest with a sorcerer/mage, or some multiclass involving mage. But with the right equipment and strategy, they are all pretty easy. I'd suggest taking your favorite class.
Mystra's Chosen Mon, 1st Nov '04, 5:37am Thief/Mage for SoA, but they get weak come mid-ToB because of the backstab multiplier limited to x5.
Although I've never done it, I imagine a Cleric/Mage would be pathetically easy since you accumulate so much XP on a solo char. You'll have those lvl 9 spells in no time!
Splunge Mon, 1st Nov '04, 3:32pm I am currently soloing a Blade. Pretty easy, and now that I just got my first two HLA's, I suspect it's going to get even easier. I'm just about to start Chapter 4, but I'm saving Kangaxx and the dragons for Chapter 6.
Maybe not the easiest, but it's a lot of fun!
(Note: I should add that I have the Item Upgrade mod, which makes things even easier, especially with upgraded C'Fury and the Sorcerian Ring. I'm thinking about upping the difficulty and/or installing some Tactics components if this gets too easy.)
Cúchulainn Mon, 1st Nov '04, 3:43pm I want to solo with an assassin but I am worried about enemy spell casters and litches that you cannot surprise i.e. they communicate with you even if you are hidden in the shadows. I already got my ass kicked by the party in the Seven Vales inn at level 9!
Eric Xanthus Mon, 1st Nov '04, 3:57pm Use potions of invisibility, Cesard. Early on, most solos are difficult. You just have to figure out some key tricks to getting through the bigger encounters. Keep in mind, someone else ran an assassin solo awhile back (can't remember who), and they had big troubles finishing off WK.
Oh, and cleric/mage solos are really, really fun. Bolt of Glory (or Sunray!) x3 Chain Contingency? Cha-ching!
Balle Mon, 1st Nov '04, 9:14pm i have finished an assasin, i thought it was a bit hard.
the easisest will be sorcerer if you know the game, tactics, spells, equimpment etc.
og you dont know it that good, Fighter/theif would be my best suggestion, they are pretty easy and VERY versetile(spl?)
Valer Tue, 2nd Nov '04, 10:30am Assassin is hard only in the begining of the game. Later, at 100% hide, open lock, disarm it is ballanced. After you have the HLA Use any item, and you have the Staff of Magi, and you can go invisible for free it is just a toy. You kill every mage first, than the rest of the party. Dont forget to poison your traps!!! It is possibile! Go for the Celestial Fury and you can act as a fighter as well...
The assassin is the fastest class, with what you can complete the game.
Lawless Tue, 2nd Nov '04, 11:06am I tried it with a theif and it was very hard. I still prefer the sorcerer or F/M to solo. I find it quite easy.
Cúchulainn Tue, 2nd Nov '04, 11:27am With an assassin you can get use any item - staff of magi and staff or ram to make 'hit and fade' attacks at 7x backstab!
Nightal Tue, 2nd Nov '04, 11:36am Sorcerer is **really** easy
Faraaz Tue, 2nd Nov '04, 4:56pm 1) Mage/Thief
2) Sorcerer
3) Ranger/Cleric
Balle Tue, 2nd Nov '04, 8:06pm iv'e just started a ranger/cleric multi, and i'm having a joy playing, it is fairly easy to play, and with a lot of options..
oh and btw. solo
Klorox Wed, 3rd Nov '04, 2:22am How do you deal with locks/traps when there's no thief?
I'm considering trying a dwarven fighter (berserker) or maybe a barbarian. I need to do a little research and see which Rage I like better.
I've always loved dwarves, and the bonuses to my saving throws would really rock.
Malovae Wed, 3rd Nov '04, 2:34am You don't deal with them you suffer their wrath or avoid them. If you have played the game enough, then it shouldn't be too much of a problem to remember where they are and what they do.
I'm suprised no ones mentioned the good old Elven Archer. Their hit points are very good (even though it shouldn't be the case.), with boots of speed can run away from enemies and shoot again, arrows of dispelling help against the toughest mages, and theyre just plain fun. I found it easier to solo this class than the Inquisitor.
Deathbringer Wed, 3rd Nov '04, 4:52am By far the easiest for me is the mage classes. You don't have to take any damage at all with all the protections and horde of cannon fodder. These classes actually got boring after the xp cap cause nothing was really a threat to me. I think Assassin or Paladin are way more fun.
Klorox Wed, 3rd Nov '04, 4:57am I'm going to give the Inquisitor a shot. Thanks everybody!

Mystra's Chosen Wed, 3rd Nov '04, 5:22am The thing about a single-class thief is that you can pretty much be a mage with UAI, what with all the scrolls laying about and such.
Balle Wed, 3rd Nov '04, 9:32am @klorox
¨
you just run through them with iron skins if you want to, or else you can avoid(walk around) most of them
Faraaz Thu, 4th Nov '04, 1:22am Iron Skins wouldn't prevent magical or elemental damage, just the physical damage...
But yeah, you should be strong enough to shrug off the damage, or just heal yourself up afterwards.
And for the locks, there's always Draw upon Holy Might, which boosts your strength, then you can bash the locks open.
And you can use Detect Traps, to find traps. I do this even when I have a thief, because the issue of low skill points does not arise.
Sarevok• Thu, 4th Nov '04, 1:53am Sorcerer or Kensai/Theif with the "use all items" thing.
Rastor Thu, 4th Nov '04, 10:41pm I'm surprised nobody mentioned that Fighter/Mage/Thief is unbelievably easy.
Cúchulainn Fri, 5th Nov '04, 11:53am I used the above with the first BG but I prefer 'pure' classes these days. An elven Fighter/Mage/Thief is the ultimate.
Scythe Fri, 5th Nov '04, 6:47pm Getting a solo char off the ground is half the battle.
Thererfore I agree that the easiest is F/M/T not least because you can cheesily steal stuff and sell it back... buy/steal loads of scrolls and go around opening every chest you can all giving loads of exp... in short get to a reasonable level 10/10/12 with v decent gear... without doing any quests at all!
Scythesong Immortal Sun, 7th Nov '04, 4:02am The easiest solo classes are the Blade and the FMT. The only difficult part of the game for these two classes would be Irenicus' Dungeon. At late game they can also be as overpowered as the Sorcerer class at leisure.
Scythe Thu, 11th Nov '04, 6:57pm @Scythesong Immortal... After all you said I've recently taken to using a blade to solo. Gets tediously, boringly, simple after mislead. Which happens real soon becasue of how quick a bard levels up. You can just walk around the maps killing things. There are so few monsters who even put up a struggle. Oh hum another 15 vampires and 10 beholders -- oh dear i seemed to have killed them all without them even noticing i'm there. I've got to 5million exp in 2 nights of serious gaming. No challenge at all.
Scythesong Immortal Tue, 16th Nov '04, 4:02am The class is unique though, since it can also be a challenging solo. Cheese aside, you will be forced to resort to an innumerable number of tactics that few other classes can ever use because of the Blade's versatility.
In my unmodded games, I never resort to singing images. He is the jack of all trades who can take on so many roles so effectively, there's always something to do and some tactic to use. He doesn't need to cheese because his basic skills alone makes him more than enough a great party member.
But the best thing I like about the class is Modded game wise, where the game is made harder for the sheer purpose of offering a greater challenge for the intrepid player. The Blade can likewise make use of "ingenuous" tactics to compensate... and when he does so he is able to adapt to the difficulty of the game. Whether you choose to abuse this to the point of powergame or just to keep up is your choice to make. Few classes can do as much.
Scythe Tue, 16th Nov '04, 11:16am Scythesong Immortal
I've read your blade's guide (and very well written it is too). I did find that the power did sort of stall at 4M exp... Once you have UAI, EBS and 7 traps to set then all other levels seem a bit of a waste. (Not that you particularly need them!) :)
angryguy Tue, 16th Nov '04, 6:55pm IMHO the FMT is better than the blade. In my current game, my FMT has equal exp, but has better thaco, attacks, damage, HP, spellcasting, thieving etc etc etc. Cannot sing or spin, but frankly, when you can backstab i dont really care.
In the interest of a varied, balanced argument, what makes a blade better than a FMT?
Scythe Wed, 17th Nov '04, 10:39am Spells dear my boy... spells. As a F/M/T fan I thought I'd hate being a blade.
However, you level so quickly that you get really powerful spells such as Animate Dead tripping over into the powerful version after you have done just one or two quests.
You soon get so many mirror images you cant see your character. My 20th level bard had only as many exp as a F/M/T who has about 11 MU levels. So his spells are almost twice as powerful if they are dependent on level. (P.s. mirror image is a must to have on whenever you fear traps.)
