View Full Version : How will TOB be harder?
The_Nerd Sat, 9th Jun '01, 9:10am Exactly like it says.
Inquisitors will be dispelling at lvl 68 when they hit max level.
Fake talks probably nto fixed though i would like to see a dragon not sit on his A#s and do nothing while you hack at him.
Abi Dahlzims horrid wilting and Time Stop will make sorcerers and mages equivalent of Lichs.
And Monks yeah they stopped magic resistance gain in favor of wiz slayer but come on what are his fists gonna be now +10 at cap?
Thief BS factor better be capped at x5 or whatever it is because Ive killed dragons with one connecting hit.
These are insane factors and balancing issues.
We better damn well be fighting Elminster with this stuff because I think even the best of monsters can get wasted by front on assaults.
Mage vs Inquisitors a no brainer
These other Bhaal spawn better be some serious bad A#ses
Vicsun Sat, 9th Jun '01, 11:11am Just think of something like two dragons or two liches at the same time :p
The_Nerd Sat, 9th Jun '01, 11:30am 2 lichs or dragons is not a scary concept if you consider Ctrl+Spacing in 2 Demi-Lichs would be sufficient challenge for monk, inquisitor and all the other debalanced things to take on.

Nobleman Sun, 10th Jun '01, 6:12pm Hard battle stuff in encounters:
1)Unable to retreat and maneuver.
2)Standind close to enemy with all characters
3)More than one strong enemy.
3b)Multible attacks from several sides.
4)More than one strong mage at the time.
5)equally strong NPC group as the PC group
Impossible battle stuff in the realms:
6)Tarrasque. Mightiest beast of the realms.
Lokken Sun, 10th Jun '01, 7:14pm I would say two dragons would be a lot thougher than two demi-liches. Against the demi-lich you just need the magicprotection and that's it. Against the dragons however, if they start using their spells properly, they will do MASSIVE damage, or by just start hitting you for that matter.
jack-of-all-trades Mon, 11th Jun '01, 12:28am I heard that there will be "magic golems". Just theink about what a pain in the *ss they were in SOA(not saying hard, but irritating). They have ranged attacks now or something, so just keeping ur mage back may not be enough now.
The_Nerd Mon, 11th Jun '01, 12:52am Ok ive now beaten 2 demi-lichs yay for me and go Carsomyr.
Will Magic Golems really have ranged attacks?
And about the dragons ok I admit they are pretty tough stuff but not really bad.
Since im ignorant of most of FR stuff whats a tarrasque?

Tyresian Tue, 12th Jun '01, 1:35am The tarrasque is this supernatural beast that can only be killed by (memory rusty, plus it was a long discription) something about reducing it to a single molecule or something and casting a wish spell on it.
(i also think they should add in gargantuans)
Another way they could make ToB more challenging is since the PCs are gonna be around level 40 challenge them with adventuring parties of NPCs around level 50.

Crawl Tue, 12th Jun '01, 6:08am Well there's still plenty of nasty creatures to impliment into the game. Plus imagine the challenge if they actually did some of the creatures properly. A dragon older the the wrymlings we fought in BG2 would be a greater challenge, or impliment liches the way they should be. Make someone fight through armies of undead and nasty magic before the actually get to one, and make it harder to kill this time. Of coruse the greatest challenge will likely come in the form of high level parties that you will have to fight. There weren't a lot of people in the game as well equiped or at as high of a level as you were. Facing a party as nasty as yourself or even higher should be quite a challenge.
The_Nerd Tue, 12th Jun '01, 7:38am Thanks for the info Tyresian.
Tarrasque sounds like a good challenge for a monster.NPC parties would be a great feature I mean we see all these secret societies in game that id be amazed if one group or another didnt want you dead for some reason.
Has Interplay said if Demogorgon is a optional battle like Kangaxx was?
And about Dragons have they said how tough the Blue Dragon will be and have they mentioned any others?
Capstone Mon, 18th Jun '01, 6:19pm The tarrasque is absolutely insane. Someone needs to find the full MM description and post it on here. In the meantime, tidbits that I recall:
6 attacks/rd (don't recall dam, but quite high)
300 hp
around 90% mr, with 1d6 chance of reflection
regeneration
-8 Thac0
-10 AC
To kill it, you must reduce it to -30 hps and use a wish spell on its corpse. An interesting tidbit from 2E rules: a creature with a natural negative Thac0 can only be hit by a natural 1 on a d20.
