View Full Version : Mod & HLA Problems
Foradasthar Sat, 19th Apr '03, 5:25pm Ok, 2 problems.
First, I had to uninstall and re-install everything because simply getting rid of the Imoen Romance mod pretty much screwed up every other mod I had. Resulting in the following problem: NPC flirtpack is not working anymore. I've re-installed it 3 times and it isn't working. What the heck is the deal? An by not working I mean I cannot initiate dialogue with Jaheira at all. I have no idea why.
Second. At some point I remember Tal telling me to install the Sorcerer's Fixpack to get rid of the bug that prevents you from getting mage HLA's with a f/m/t. How? You can only get the HLA's if you have ToB, and there's only a fixpack for SoA. So what's the deal? Uninstall ToB -> play SoA through -> save at the end -> remove the fixpack -> install ToB -> continue playing? Sounds too strange for me to actually try it.
So does anyone have an idea what the heck is wrong here? Especially with the first alternative, since I'm quite annoyed that there's supposed to be a flirtpack but of course once again because of some seriously annoying bug, I can't get a deal of it.

Taluntain Sat, 19th Apr '03, 7:28pm I have never told you to get Ex's patch for that, especially since it's a ToB problem and Ex's patch is only for SoA. I told you to get the fix from SP, but it's a separate, standalone fix. However it is on the same page as Ex's fix, only lower down: http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/index_editors3.htm
Foradasthar Sat, 19th Apr '03, 7:39pm Oh yeah, my memory made the trick again. Strange that I didn't spot that even when I did search them all through twice. No matter, thanks Tal. :D
Jurts Sat, 19th Apr '03, 11:01pm First, I had to uninstall and re-install everything because simply getting rid of the Imoen Romance mod pretty much screwed up every other mod I had. Resulting in the following problem: NPC flirtpack is not working anymore. I've re-installed it 3 times and it isn't working. What the heck is the deal? An by not working I mean I cannot initiate dialogue with Jaheira at all. I have no idea why. Only explanation I could offer is to check the romance variable. If you have been playing around with all this installing/reinstalling, maybe the romance variable has been set to 3, thus romance is considered dead and you cannot flirt anymore.
Foradasthar Sun, 20th Apr '03, 11:00am The romance variable is a-ok. I've started several new games as well just to check this. The interesting thing is, that even the Ascension is only semi-working. I don't get any random encounters by powerful enemies. The only thing at all that hints to the ascension working is the fact that my ToB -> SoA imported character still retains his Bhaal-powers from the end of SoA.
The only mods that is actually working as it should, is Dungeon-Be-Gone.
I also find it strange that while uninstalling any of the mods, the dos prompt screen always shows the uninstaller browsing through other mods that have nothing to do with it. For example if I remove any mod, from Expanded Thief Stronghold to Imoen Romance and Irenicus' Redemption.. it also seems to browse through / uninstall the Flirtpacks and Ascension's improved enemies as well. Very strange.
I should probably just take the savegames and otherwise uninstall and delete it all and re-install it afterwards. But I'm not willing to put off that much time and trouble before I know that's the only alternative. And before I know that even that will work, for it seems almost as if some of the mods can't co-exist properly, as uninstalling one effectively has a major effect on the others as well.
Also, as a sidenote. The HLA fix enabled me to get the ability to memorize one extra lvl 6-8 spell. But that's it. No Improved Alactricities, Comets, Dragon's Breaths etc. I'm going to have to read a bit more about this one though before I can say that's a bug. Just thought to mention it here in advance in case it really is supposed to be working already. My f/m/t's mage level is 18. And I don't ever remember getting just a part of the HLA's, instead of all or nothing.
Jurts Sun, 20th Apr '03, 2:57pm Well, I also tend to run multiple mods at once I have been spared from serious trouble. I always install the mods in the order that was recommended on Interplay forums:

3) If you installed Imoen Romance then do not use Dungeon Be Gone to leave the dungeon. The talks with Imoen already start in the dungeon.

If you decide to go for a complete re-install, perhaps it is wise to stick to this order for mod installing. At least it has been tested...
Foradasthar Sun, 20th Apr '03, 7:16pm Yes, that order has been tested. I just re-installed the game, put the mods in in that precise order, newest version of each, of course. And I found that the Flirtpack still isn't working.
Quite interesting. I just recently formatted my computer. There is nothing that I've added in since when the flirtpack was working and now, when it isn't. There's nothing extra in BG2 whatsoever, and I did every step just as described in that list.
I really feel like making another lecture about how pissed I am at something like this for who knows how manieth time (yes, I've experienced quite a few extremely person-specific buggy mods and whined quite a bit about them). But well, as I guess I'm the lone individual with the problem again, I'll pass. No flirts for me then. I just hope that the Jaheira romance would work at all, since it's been no-go so far.
jcompton Mon, 21st Apr '03, 6:18am Are you in the Underdark by any chance? Flirting shuts off there. We're not as explicit about that as we should be in all of the flirt packs, but it should be in the FAQ, I believe.
Foradasthar Mon, 21st Apr '03, 11:33am I am in the surface. In chapters 1 and 2. I've restarted the game with a new character every time I did something that supposedly could have helped, and then took my way out of Irenicus' Dungeon with the Dungeon-Be-Gone mod. And then I've tried it on Waukeen's Promenade. And no go.
Jurts Mon, 21st Apr '03, 3:14pm How are you actually testing that Flirtpack is not working? I mean, none of the romances are active just after you appear in the promenade... and the firting is disabled after you had the first lovetalks. In case of Jaheira romance, you have to start it by talking with Gaelan Bayle, the wait for 6 lovetalks to expire and only then the flirting can start...
I'm sure you know all this, I'm just confused as to how you actually know that something is not working...
Foradasthar Mon, 21st Apr '03, 6:00pm Gaelan Bayle, that's the shadowthief guy who informs you of the deal for 20 000 gold right? If so, then that's not helping much.
You see, I don't really know how the Flirtpack is *really* supposed to work. I only know that it should contain the same type of click and talk method that was used with Tashia and Valen romances for example. But the first time I played BG2 after I had installed the Flirtpack, I could initiate a dialogue by clicking and talking with Jaheira the moment I got her free from her jail. All I could tell her was something around "Never mind." or something to that direction. But still, I could talk to her. After that, I haven't been able to do even that. And that's where I get the idea that now it isn't working.
I've played through 5 romance dialogues with Jaheira now, and not one thing has appeared that would hint on the Flirtpack being working.
jcompton Mon, 21st Apr '03, 6:17pm Yep. I wrote a README for just this reason.
I shall quote from it.
Q: They're not flirting in SOA! What's wrong?
A: Probably nothing. Aerie and Viconia will not flirt until after their fourth
LOVETALK (LoveTalk=8). Jaheira will not flirt until just before or just after
her sixth LOVETALK (LoveTalk=12). They also will not flirt in the Underdark, or
after cross words have been exchanged, or they're obsessing over some really
heavy issues (Jaheira and the Harpers, late in her romance, between LoveTalk=59
and =62, or Viconia at the various times she gets angry and conflicted.)
Foradasthar Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 8:20am So this equals: "You cannot initiate dialogue with them at all"?
If so, then I guess it's all ok. Then just to figure out why I could initiate dialogue with her the first time after installing the mod. And why the ascension still isn't giving me any powerful random encounters in Athkatla.
Edit: As in, is this a "yes, you cannot initiate dialogue with them at all until lovetalk blahblah..." or "no, ....... ... .. ...."? I won't play the game for some 10 hours for nothing so I'd like to get an answer, plz?
